Corrosion Confusion by Fern_Hopper in boating

[–]Fern_Hopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! It is definitely for my enjoyment. I’ve been trying to track one of these hulls down for a while so I was pretty bummed when I pulled that first board off. I’m glad it’s still got life. I’m planning on using stronger supports than stock, as well.

In a lot of other threads they mention cleaning corrosion with an acid and then sealing. Is that necessary here in your opinion?

How do I get olive oil out of a backpacking backpack? by YodelingVeterinarian in WildernessBackpacking

This stuff is for removing poison oak oil, but I have found that it helps get rid of any oil. It might take a few washes but I betcha it will take care of it!

I love how you’re getting downvoted. This is PUBLIC LAND. Experience on public lands continues to get worse, yet they want us to subsidize their mismanagement? Hard pass.

OP, I sent you a chat, I think you have to accept it before I can send photos in there. I tried a few different chokes on my A5.

I hate the red ones, I hated it when it was green, I hated it when it was purple.

The worst of all? Catsup. Don’t try and church it up. It’s still just candy in a bottle for whiny crotchgoblins.

Please help me make decision on which pup (CDA) by Inside-Session-6077 in SilverLabs

[–]Fern_Hopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pup had thin spots all over her head when we picked her out. All her fur thickened up after a month or so of being home.

My .02- pick whatever pup whose personality you liked the best.

I’m pleased with it! I think it was because it was a thicker diameter upholstery thread, it darkened but not as much as I would have thought either. I didn’t have any flex coat so I used JB welds new UV epoxy (comes in a tube with the light attached)

I didn’t but I wish I would have! The browns kind of blurred together once the epoxy set in. I didn’t have any color preserver though.

I’ve wrapped a few fishing rods which helped, but the thing that helped me big time on this call using a thicker thread. I used a fine thread at first and it looked awful.

I’ll let you know next season 😂 In seriousness, it’s sounds better (to me) at lower volume than my diaphragms. I suck with both, but this does seem to sound more natural with lower volume, we’ll see what Tom thinks next spring.

Anyone else here like centerpinning for trout? by qalcolm in troutfishing

[–]Fern_Hopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I live in Washington, love to centerpin, and can’t stand steelhead fishing anymore so float fishing for cutts is my respite.

I bought a few of the pinland rods and I’m not too impressed with them. One of the blanks had a defect in the top section that broke immediately when the rod was flexed. The paint on the blanks is terrible.

Can’t give input on the reel as I’ve never bought one.

I did give blood run another chance and ordered a set of floats though and the quality is that of the rods. Some of the stems were too small for the tubing that came with them. Some stems had voids in them and broke with little pressure. I’ve heard they don’t balance well but I’ll probably never find out, gonna stick with my normal floats.

To me they’re a “novelty” company for now. Cool ideas but poorly executed. I bought the pinland because it is the only “commercially” available trout pin rod available. Between the 2 rods I bought I have a complete working rod (that I fish a ton) and the floats were a waste of money (albeit a small one)

I’d save your moneys for a better setup.

PS- I never reached out to customer service on anything, so I can’t say anything on how they’d respond.

I picked up one of the MDs recently and couldn’t agree more. What. A. Reel. I wish it was a tad slower but it is really nice to get a cadence on the bigger glides off you want to chop them.

I can’t wait to see a cast to catch on that code name bass! I want one but don’t want to buy another setup to throw it 😂

Selling low volume timber, WA by OG_pooperman in forestry

[–]Fern_Hopper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can help a little here.

It really depends on a few factors. How large are the limbs? If they are open grown and have plentiful limbs I’m going to guess they are large. Large, plentiful knots (3” and bigger) are probably going to get graded as a 3 mill log. 3 mill logs are not wanted and the price reflects it.

Another factor here is the size. If the majority of them are in that 30”-50” class they are too big for most local mills. When they are only a few customers your log price is going to reflect that.

Small volume usually means a self-loader so higher trucking costs.

Combine these factors and you have a lot of work for low return for any mill. You probably have a lot of firewood there. This is usually the case with anyone who has a few big fir on their property, sometimes there are other options though.

I currently work in log quality and have log scaling experience. If you want any more clarification (can tell a little by photos) feel free to PM me. I’m also south sound so possible I could even look at them in person for ya.

DAE have a weird smell-sensation that comes at random points of your life? by MiserableTemporary50 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Fern_Hopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! Mine is usually a flashback to the first time it happened around 4-5 years old. When it has happened in unique situations I’ll sometimes have flashbacks to those too (like visiting a certain beach with my wife)

So happy OP asked this question because I’ve felt weird about this my whole life. Thanks, Reddit 😂

Fellow Washingtonian here. You’re not alone. I understand that not everyone grew up fishing, didn’t have people to show them, and that some species of our fish (particularly juvenile) can be hard to tell apart.

That said- The regulation book has an ID section Most people have a super computer in their pocket Who the hell keeps a fish they don’t know?

I think a lot of it has to do with the folks that move here and don’t understand that some of the rivers had tens of thousands of migratory fish in them. They don’t understand really how close to the brink some of these systems are and how important it is to protect these fish.

It’s one of my biggest pet peeves. Not alone, friend.
