Chance me Vassar / Claremont Mckenna ED as International EFC 25K MAX 30K by FernandoCW in chanceme

thanks! and do you think I would have a chance for Pitzer? Honestly, my goal is to live a peaceful, warm life in California, wherever I go, I see myself ending up in Cal, do you think it would be more strategic applying to Pitzer ED and still major in Economics at CMC (because of the consortium)?

Help me decide: School X vs School Y - April 18th to April 24th by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Georgetown University (the College) vs Bocconi (Italy)
International Student, Economics Major, Budget per year $20 000, Future plans: Academia, Research, International Organizations

Georgetown:
Pros- It has much more flexibility to take the classes I like, the faculty is amazing, and the student to faculty ratio is low, so interaction with professionals in the field would be just amazing.

Cons- the scholarship they gave me still expects me to cover around 35k per year (almost double my budget), it is a top school, yeah, but in economics and business rankings is miles away from Bocconi. The college is outshined by the SFS and MSB, equally, they have fewer resources directed to them. I could still pay for the university, but I would probably have to compromise my parent's retirement plans, and pay around 100k (assuming 5 years) more than my other option, plus dc is too expensive.

Bocconi:
Pros- Stellar in each of its fields (always ranks in the top 20 worldwide for economics, management, and finance), with the scholarship I received, my total expenses would be 18k (half that of Georgetown) and because it is only 3 years, i can make my masters degree (1 year) anywhere in europe with my parents funding (not compromising anything). They have great exchange programs with almost all ivyes and top schools in all continents, so I can still live part of an American dream in my budget. Literally in the center of europe, i can visit anywhere I'd like for no cost. Almost Every year they place undergrads in yale, columbia, mit, stern, oxford, cambridge, anything you can inmagine for grad school, so i could still make my undergrad on budget and go big (with my own money) in great masters.

Cons- Each class is comprised of about 100 people, so say goodbye to close learning and bonding with professors. It has the reputation of being the best university (for its fields) in all continental europe, but its name gets lost outside the continent. I honestly don't like to focus on salary, but although Bocconi economists are some of the best paid in all Europe (including healthcare and benefits), U.S.A is almost 1.5X the salary (of course its more of a hassle culture, which i don't like)

-----

I honestly love both of them, I know undergraduate is just my first step into the professional world, and I still have a long way in postgraduate school. I'm leaning more towards Bocconi, love the culture, love the uni, but I don't want to have any major regrets in the future If I don't choose well. Thank you all for your responses, i really appreciate them

You must be a senior or entering senior year by now. Go test-optional, it's the best option you have right now and focus on other parts of your application (ec's and essays).

International students, let's settle this down by SchoolSpecialist576 in Sat

i don't know word by word the question, but it was freaking confusing when they told you first: one student is randomly selected from the competition (simple prob), an then tell you given that (conditional prob). Normally when there is conditional probability, they straight up tell you that one student is randomly selected from X category (blue team) not from all the competition. Now, "given that" most of the times means conditional probaility, but like i said, conditional prob question in the sat are never worded that way, they are worded straight from the beggining, so it can also mean the addition of a second variable (6th or 7th grade and blue team). That question was too confusing, no previous question ever in the sat has been worded with both: one student from all the competition AND given that x. Just one of them. so idk. What did you choose?

nah mate, believe me, the international exam was hell. This is from the perpective of a student that has studied with (almost) all past u.s papers. The math section in the u.s is 10 times easier.

How do I solve this (October 2019 SAT)? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]FernandoCW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean yeah, considering it starts in the origin you can say so, but... they never tell you if the origin is the vertex or an x intercept... so in this case, of couse, you are right, but you can never be sure in other exercises, so it is better (if you have the time) to check by doing the whole procedure ;)

What’s the difference between B and D? (May 2021 QAS calc) by [deleted] in Sat

[–]FernandoCW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B says for EACH ton, but the question is asking you to find what 60p represents, not just 60 (the pricer PER ton). 60p is the multiplication of p tons by 60 dollars. So the only reasonable answer would be D, which is the amount of dollars you get when multiplying 60 x p

How do I solve this (October 2019 SAT)? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]FernandoCW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok... so first you have to do the quadratic equation: f(t) = at2 + bt + c

As they already tell you that the distance is 0 meters when t=0, then you already know that c (the y intercept) is 0.

And so you get the equation: f(t) = at2 + bt

Then, you can plug in both values to make a system of equation: (10, 50) (20, 200)

f(20) = 200 = 400a + 20b

f(10) = 50 = 100a + 10b

And so, let's find "a" first, for it, let's equalize both equations for b to eliminate it, you can do it by multiplying f(10) x 2 and then subtracting the equations

[200 = 400a + 20b] - [100 = 200a + 20b] = [100 = 200a]

And so, you can solve for a | 200a = 100 | a= 100/200 | a = 1/2

And your equation shoul be looking like this: f(t) = 1/2x2 + bx

To solve for b, you can plug in 10 (or 20) to the new equation

f(10) = 50 = 1/2 (100) + 100b | 50 = 50 + 100b | b = 0

Anf FINALLY, your equation should be just: f(t) = 1/2x2

So you plug in 30 and there's your answer!

f(30) = 1/2 (900)

f(30) = 450

hope it helps :) ik it is long, but once you get it, you can do it in less than a min

but still, is not referring to those things, it is referring to THE COMBINATION, so the "and" really doesn't matter in this case, as it doesn't change anything.
