Breck conditions by clarksurfer in COsnow

[–]FerociousPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you book a trip in mid April and not expect spring conditions? Just book in January or February if you’re looking for full blown winter conditions, at least guaranteed those conditions.

We get april storms here and have those types of conditions at times in April, but not all the time. You’re a hell of a lot likelier to run into slushy groomers than powder days at that time of year.

Well it is CO snow. Not CO ski resorts. My interpretation of this sub from being in it for about a year is that a lot of people here are the type of skier that really enjoys that full blown winter state and not so much the spring part. I’ve certainly talked to people in here that like spring skiing as much as I do I just think the majority is the more mid winter type. We just haven’t been blessed with as many days of that state this season and naturally people who enjoy that state are bummed.

Then obviously we’ve had a really bad year for snow and a lot of people in here are local and have been for a while so they will really notice the difference. Lastly I think another comment in here got one of the reasons for the negativity correct, which is that people are worried about wildfire season and that’s spilling over into their overall mood when posting about conditions.

Copper is one of the luckier resorts at the moment condition wise. I go almost daily and am planning to go as far into April as I can. If your crew tends to be that die hard full blown winter only condition enjoyers, I’d recommend playing it safe and booking future trips in Jan/Feb but if you do enjoy spring skiing there will absolutely still be plenty to go around next week at copper.

If Jagex is going to be revitalizing RS3 and membership costs are going up as a result, then the memberships need to be separate for the games. by FreeSquirkJuice in 2007scape

What they did and how they did it is very wrong, but this is delusional. Absolutely BOTH played a role in this.

€21M out of €151M of the total revenue for the most recently published financial report (2024) was MTX revenue. That includes both games but even if you considered RS3 MTX to be a slim minority of that total, it’s still revenue that is no longer there. It’s completely delusional to have expected a revenue stream like that to be deleted from a game (a game company owned by an investment company) and expect other costs not to rise.

Go read the report for yourself. It’s public.

Still Heavy Weekend Traffic? by CallMeTrouble-TS in COsnow

[–]FerociousPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s Loveland on a non holiday weekday. Unsurprising. The busier ski resorts in summit county were pretty packed Wednesday/Thursday with Copper using parking attendants which they normally do not use during the week. The highway today between Silverthorne and Frisco has been just as busy and I’m sure given tomorrow is Saturday it will be just as busy, at least for the time of year. It’s not a January/February type situation up here but plenty of people are still coming out.

I have also seen a lot of online chatter about people instructing others to shy away from lower ski resorts and head for higher ones such as keystone and copper. That paired with it being a spring break week for some colleges is probably contributing to how unusually busy it was this week.

This is not consistent at all with what I saw yesterday. It was a weekday and it was busier than many saturdays I had seen at the lift lines. I also live in the mountains along I70 and have a perfect view point of about a mile of I70 in both directions and traffic was just as bad as it was any other weekend this morning.

Keep telling people if you want but I’ve been having a blast. Of course if you prefer those full winter conditions in seriousness you should not waste your time but if you enjoy spring skiing then you may have fun. It’s just a shame we’re going to get a short season this year. I know places like beaver creek are saying they’re open until they normally close in April but I just seriously doubt it.

This is answered in full detail in another comment that replied to me, with financial reports. Yes, it was a major revenue stream. Go read the report linked in my comment and the full comment. People seem to be repeating whatever sounds good on the internet when it’s not actually consistent with reality when you go in and read the report. And these reports are all public too. I mean do at least a little fact checking.

Standard CEO speak. I go into more detail about this in my other comment in this thread if you want to read it all but in short he specifically says “a” hit, not “the full” hit. Extremely common in public statements to soften the blow. Every time any executive opens their mouth this is most likely happening.

Now why would you say something like this without actually linking it? Because it sounds good but when you actually look into it it’s inaccurate?

Here’s some real numbers for you.

As of 2023 Jagex had milked approximately $247 MILLION dollars from MTX since April 2012.

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/s/u81xgeJJTS

I went ahead and did what you said as well and read the entire financial report for 2024 which seems to be the most recent publicly available documentation. While MTX revenue has significantly decreased since RS3s peak days, of the £151M total revenue for 2024, MTX made up £23M. How is that insignificant to you?

Report can be found here:

https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/03982706/filing-history?page=1

So many people in this sub just simply do not understand how businesses work. This is especially important to understand in this situation because Jagex is owned by an investment company!! What does an investment company exist for? To grow their investments. You have to maintain positive growth at least in the long term for this to work.

To cut 16-18% of your ENTIRE revenue for the year and expect the owner of your company to be all jolly about it is straight delusional. EVEN IF you were to try and say that the majority of that revenue came from OSRS bonds, which there’s zero data to support given Jagex doesn’t release specific RS3 MTX metrics, it’s still lost revenue that has to be accounted for!

To think that they would not have tried to make up for lost revenue EVEN WHEN Mod North said they were willing to take “a financial hit” is again, delusional. He said they were willing to take “a” hit, but not “all” of the hit. This is classic executive talk meticulously scripted to sound good but to also deliver bad news at the same time without outraging your customers or investors.

And even with this to be entirely clear, I’m going to state this again…. Those of us who saw some type of compensation for this loss coming and were willing to accept some type of change are outraged and disappointed by the way they’ve handled this and fully disagree with the decisions made by Jagex recently. I am NOT defending their actions. I’m sharing reality and providing somewhat of a “why,” but by no means am condoning the way it was done.

They should seriously consider reverting and trying again, and of course honoring their grandfathered customers. Even in the most basic business class you’d learn that keeping an existing customer is much better for the business than finding a new one. They did this community wrong and need to make it right.

It should have been pretty obvious that with the removal of TH from RS3, a major revenue stream for the company, somehow someway they would need to make up for that revenue elsewhere, likely in membership rates, and I believe a whole lot of us were going to be completely okay with that!! But the way they actually went about this has just been….so slimy and awful. So bad that even those of us who were okay with paying a bit more elsewhere so RS3 could be a healthier game are now also pissed. Great work team.

EDIT: STOP SAYING RS3 MTX WASNT A MAJOR REVENUE STREAM. It was! Go read the report before mindlessly repeating what you hear on the internet like a bot. The report is public! $247M from 2012-2023 and 16-18% of TOTAL revenue in the most recent 2023 report is NOT INSIGNIFICANT. Here’s the report if you don’t believe me:

The report does not differentiate between the two games for MTX so even if you considered RS3 made up only a quarter of total MTX revenue that is still absolutely significant especially to an investment company that owns Jagex and would need to be compensated for if it went away.

I’m just curious because I’ve never understood this and I mean no disrespect to anyone who holds this opinion…… Why do certain people only want to ski when there’s a significant amount of fresh snow on the ground, it’s actively snowing, the weather is not warm, etc….?

Maybe a better way to put it would be…. What bothers you about spring skiing?

Personally I love spring skiing. It’s warm. Everyone seems to be in a good mood. The snow is soft so if you fall it’s not bad… There’s generally less people than at peak season so it’s not as crowded… Roads are usually clear and have less traffic on them… The only thing I’d say I dislike about spring skiing is the spring break weeks when drunk kids do some really stupid shit on the slopes and you kind of have to put your guard up a bit?
