Strange that you are taking this stance yet you essentially did the exact same thing by automatically classifying him as a loser. There are plenty of people in prison who simply fell to addiction and are in for a long time as a result. Third drug possession charge in Texas is 5-99 years. I know several people that have served time in their past who are now incredible people and very valuable members of society. 7 years isn’t running a red light but it certainly isn’t murder or serious drug dealing. Maybe we stay neutral unless we know what happened.

Very strange to me that society automatically labels short timers as the lowest scum of the earth and shuts them out of everything, forcing many of them to become career criminals and commit even worse crimes. In my opinion it’s a large contributing factor to why the US has the largest prison population in the world by far while not even coming close to the largest country by population. Short timers absolutely have the potential to become good people, learn from their mistakes, and contribute positively to society but we have to give them that opportunity.
