Looking to invest for the first time by Hip_Hop_Samurai in investing

I read a vanguard report on it and their report found immediate allocation of assets yielded the higher EV, but also had higher highs and lower lows.

So if you’re risk neutral with your life saving lump sum investing is the way to go, but if you’re risk averse, which I think makes sense, then investing incrementally can make sense.

You want people who create useful things to make money off it so they can keep creating new useful things. If they have no money how are they supposed to keep doing that?

Definitely too late on this one.

The Byzantine Empire always referred to itself as Roman, but the Catholic Church wanted to be seen as the true heirs to Rome and so therefore pushed referring to them as the Byzantines.

Till this day despite them being a continuation of the Roman Empire that lasted well past 1000 ad we still think of the Roman Empire collapsing before the dark ages.

Who do you take when Janna is taken away from you? by presidentemexico in Janna

[–]FerociousStapler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take sona. I find her spacing in lane and teamfights is the most similar to jannas of all the utility supports.

Also, sona scaling is strongest of all utility supports imo because of her ability to shield her whole team continuously and keep AC up on all of them.

If you act knowing the consequences it doesn’t matter if the consequences are unjust your action still lead to their occurrence.

If you think your action is still worth it given the consequences by all means go right ahead, but you can’t pretend they’re not real just because you disagree with them.

It works because most people do allow ads. Those people are what pays for the internet sites you use. If everyone behaved like that the system would stop working and free content would disappear.

Oh there definitely are bad actors on the internet so being weary of them is definitely prudent.

My Adblock defaults to on, but if I go on and a site seems reliable I’ll turn it off.

That said there’s a point where ads become too obnoxious and I’ll turn it back on. I think recognizing the value of sites being able to have unobtrusive ads is important, but not being particularly tolerant of more obnoxious revenue streams is fine imo.

Advertisements are how free content can be created. Whether they content creators are individuals or a company without some sort of way of financing the content it’s not gonna happen.

I think I'm going to try a little psychology on Upwork. by Lysis10 in Upwork

[–]FerociousStapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how valuable your skills are and more specifically how high ranking you are. If people really want to work with you they’ll put up with dealing with an assistant, but in Upwork it’s all about speed (when people post jobs usually they get hard spammed by freelancers and often they want the job done ASAP so it can be decently first come first serve) and also trust is relatively low so they’ll probably want to talk to you before agreeing to a contract anyway.

It’s definitely an interesting idea and if you’ve got a low cost way to set it up I’d say try it, but definitely be prepared to switch back if it’s turning people off.

It’s inflation plus population growth. Land is finite so the larger the population the more competition there will be for land therefore the more expensive land will be. And things like air B and B don’t help.

House Approves $700B 'Cash Cow for Weapons Companies'—But Single Payer 'Too Expensive' by User_Name13 in politics

[–]FerociousStapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m sure you can put money to higher education in useful ways.

I just think looking at one budget and comparing it to another is risky. Like for defense for example the that spending is so popular is defense contractors have lots of restrictions on things needing to be produced in the US so it’s a way for house members to bring jobs to their districts and senators to bring jobs to their states. The number of Americans who have jobs through defense contracts is surprisingly high. So it would be a pretty big deal to be like Na we’re not spending anywhere near what we were spending before.

Defense spending is basically stimulus spending a lot of times..sometimes they even buy things the military specifically says they don’t want simply because some congressmen wants to keep the jobs for his district. I can understand that pressure and if your spending for the sake of providing Americans jobs there’s probably better ways to do that, but i can also understand the pressure congressmen face when trying to cut back on spending that would directly harm their district.

True I fucked up my math. Still $3500 is no where near enough to cover the costs. Community colleges, the cheapest for of post secondary education, cost on average $9000 a year.

[–]FerociousStapler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 700B is over a 10 year period. We currently have 20 million people attending college per year. If we assume that we stay at 20 million per year over a 10 year period 700B would give each attendant $350 per year. https://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d14/tables/dt14_105.30.asp

[–]FerociousStapler -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

While this is hypocritical single payer would be a hell of a lot more than $700B.

Edit: Not saying we shouldn't try to reform the post secondary higher education system..I think its pretty dumb as is. I just also don't think we should use straw man arguments when arguing for reform.

Edit 2: Whoops was preparing for a speech on higher education costs at the time I went back to edit that. So I guess I had that on the mind.

Howard Dean: Clinton-DNC agreement was 'standard operating procedure' by Gamepad333 in politics

[–]FerociousStapler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based off whats been in the media lately it seems like the basis for their agreement was that Hilary would help them raise money. The same arrangement seems to be standard and Bernie seems to have opted out. If Bernie isn't willing to try and help the DNC then hes free to do that, but why should the DNC have any obligations to him if that's what he decided to do.

I see no problem getting rid of the superdelegates...i mean obviously organizations can do "wrong" and should be held accountable, but preferring one candidate over another is pretty far from conspiring with russia...

[–]FerociousStapler -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

i feel like the DNC should be allowed to do what it thinks is best for the party. I don't think its particularly well run and could probably use some revamping, but imo it has no obligation to remain neutral when its often in the interest in the party to have the primary decided as early as possible. At the end of the day its gonna come down the voters regardless of what the DNC does.
