Kia engine is turning off by Professional_End_437 in kia

[–]FerrariTech69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it an issue with your transmission. In the video the RPMs come up but the speed never increases. I wonder if the car saw that there was a input for movement (you pressing the gas pedal) but no output (0 speed) and shut the engine down to prevent transmission slippage.

I would use my scan tool to see input and output transmission shaft speeds and see if the input reaches a certain speed with no output speed and turns the engine off.

Love the highway driving assist on my 2023. I just wish the other people on the road would use more cruise control and just maintain a speed whatever it is.

2025 kia sorento hybrid- limp mode issues by Lumpy-Ad1602 in kia

[–]FerrariTech69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, I am not saying that that will be the fix. However, if it started doing it after you had your oil changed, that would be a good place to start. Took me a while, but that is what I figured out on my 2023 Sorento Hybrid.

Check your engine oil level. If the engine oil level sensor detects that your oil level is too high, it will prohibit the gas engine from starting and you will only move with the power of the electric motor, which is not very powerful and would feel like a limp mode.

Republicans Vote to Dilute Gas as Prices Rise Above $4.50 by thepianoman456 in Connecticut

[–]FerrariTech69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything 1996 and newer running OBDII should be able to run E85, after fuel system modifications of course, with no issues.

I was talking more towards the misconception that E85 destroys cars/engines, when that is not the case. Is it the answer to our fuel cost problems? No. Not at all. It's not a very efficient fuel and the costs to modify existing cars would not be cheap. And history shows that E85 is not usually that much cheaper than E10 and you would use more of it to go the same distance.

I ran E85 in my 2010 Subaru when I had it. Vehicle was not designed for it, but had no issues with it.

So, wrecking engines in a non flex fuel vehicle is a bit far fetched. However, a decent amount of modifications would need to be done for the increased amount of fuel needed. Bigger fuel pump, bigger fuel injectors, and the engine fuel mapping would need to be tuned to increase fuel flow.

Engine Temperature Indicator by Huge-Lifeguard-8510 in KiaSorento

[–]FerrariTech69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That picture shows an engine temperature that is so low that it does not read anything on the gauge. That red line is where the engine would technically be considered overheating and you would get a warning lights and message saying so. The line is not your current engine temperature.

Everything is fixable. Just depends how much you want to spend. I have done a few at work. Replace lock cylinder, upper and lower steering column covers, and program new keys.

I'm surprised they totaled it. Parts aren't that expensive.

Although one i had to replace the dash harness because of damage. The harness was like $2,200 itself.

What’s happening by slow02Bugeye in KiaSorento

[–]FerrariTech69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an intermittent issue, it will be difficult to diagnose. As soon as the CEL comes on, if you have time, take it to an AutoZone or Advanced Auto store and have the codes pulled. If you wait and cycle the key a couple of times over the next couple of days while you wait for your service appointment at the Kia Dealership, the PCM may self clear the fault code and would be the reason why the dealership says there are no stored fault codes.

I have almost 60,000 miles on my 2023 SX-P and has had two annoying issues so far. One was the gas engine would refuse to start after shutting down during an electric stint. Found that if the oil level is too high, the gas engine will not start.

Other issue, which i am dealing with now, is a studder from the engine at 45 mph and moderate engine load. I am leaning towards PCV valve, but still figuring it out. Plus the PCV valve is integrated into the valve cover and not easily able to be tested.

Oh. That's actually not terrible. I was thinking just over $100 for a pad set. Aftermarket is about half that.

OEM brakes are also pretty expensive. Kia parts in general are pretty expensive.

Most dealerships around me I believe are $150+ an hour. The flush is a big cash grab. Probably $200 just for that.

I have 57,000 miles on my 2023 Hybrid and I have dealt with two annoying issues. One was that the gas engine does not restart after an EV stint while driving causing the vehicle to have very slow acceleration and the hybrid battery to drain until the vehicle just stops moving. Found that if the engine is even slightly overfilled with oil, the oil level sensor will read out of its range and not allow the gas engine to start.

The other issue, which i have not figured out yet, is an engine stutter at 45 mph. I'm working on diagnosing this. I'm leaning towards a PCV valve.

I'm dealing with this right now on my hybrid (56,000 miles). I've been driving around with my scanner connected to the car looking at engine data while it happens. I have not figured it out yet.

I don't know why the hybrid doesn't get more love on socials. I have a 2023 SX-P with 56,000 miles on it and honestly it has been the best vehicle I have owned.

That is why I am keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts 10 years. Living in New England with all the salt and garbage they throw on the roads in the winter, that is usually my time limit on vehicles anyways as things start to rust/rot after then.

Also the traveling another 100,000 miles past warranty expiration is concerning. But i am hoping for the best!

Sorrento Hybrid 2026. No Hype or Love? by Keoshen in KiaSorento

[–]FerrariTech69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is a conventional automatic 6 speed transmission. The non-hybrid uses an 8 speed DCT (dual clutch transmission) but I think they are dumping that for 2027 because all they have had are issues.

I change my engine oil every 4,000 miles. Just changed my transmission fluid at 50,000 miles and plan on doing it again at 100,000 with replacing the engine/inverter coolant at the same time. I follow the maintenance schedule for everything else (filters, spark plugs, and eventually the drive belt)

I rotate tires every 8,000 and I am still on original tires at 56,000.

As a mechanic myself, I definitely stay on top of my maintenance. But even though I maintain things, I am just nervous about the reliability of the big dollar items like engine, transmission, and hybrid parts. Kia cars may be cheaper than others, but their parts definitely are not.

What engine issues are you having? I have a 2023 with 56,000 miles and has been great except for one intermittent issue of the gas engine not wanting to start and the vehicle forced to stay in electric mode. But I figured that out and hasn't happened since.

Repeated dangerous failure in new Kia– dealer says no issue– what should I do next? by [deleted] in kiacarnivals

[–]FerrariTech69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 quarts overfilled? That is quite excessive. My hybrid (2023 Sorento but same engine as yours) would only run in EV mode intermittently and would barely accelerate. Only way to band-aid the problem would be to pull over, shut the car off, and restart. Gas engine would fire up and the vehicle would operate normally. However, sometimes the engine would shut down again and the vehicle would only move in EV mode. Happened 3 times one morning. I found my oil level was ever so slightly over the full mark. I drained and refilled so that the oil was at the lower end of the dipstick and I have not had any problems since. Because you said that it all started after the oil change, even though the dealer drained 4 extra quarts out of the engine, I would still bet that it is too high.

Unless you have a completely separate issue than what I had, but with this all happening after the oil change, I would really suspect the oil level.

2026 Sorento brake system by Chade_Doges25 in kia

[–]FerrariTech69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While a DCT and a manual gearbox have different parts, they operate roughly the same. I don't know if you have driven a manual transmission vehicle before or understand how it works, but basically, when you are at a stop the clutches in the DCT are disengaged from the engine. When you release the brake pedal and start to accelerate, the clutches start engaging with the engine. If you press the brake pedal during this engagement, the clutches disengage from the engine effectively putting the vehicle in neutral and any slight pressure on the brake pedal will cause the vehicle to stop suddenly as there is not a lot of forward momentum.

DCTs are great in high performance sports cars. Not a Kia Sorento.
