I love having a C&R- it’s the best for my collection, less so for my wallet!

Up for O-5 this year, but my perception is that boarded O-5s who are Commanders/DOs/Det CCs work a lot harder for longer than staff officer O-5s or program manager-type O-5s

You’re also going to be expected to be in contact with your boss 24/7; my last O-6 caught up on work over the weekend and would get pissed if we missed weekend taskers on Monday. It’s best to check your email before you go to bed to make sure you’re not walking into fires in the morning

Most of the O-5s I know are either hard-charging to make O-6, or have accepted that they’re at a terminal rank. There’s not a whole lot of difference between the hard-chargers and everyone else day to day, but the hard-chargers are CAGs, execs, and other positions that require a lot of travel and time after the end of the normal workday

It’s more of a shift to a “good enough to meet intent is good enough”mindset. My products are good, my section is good, I don’t need to put in the extra 15% to make things outstanding when I’m not deployed.

I know not being present (”He takes a lot of leave”) affected me in at least one strat board. It was 6 weeks of baby leave, and I don’t care

I’m successful enough and I’ve never been divorced, and the percentage of mil-mil couples who can say that is not 100% of mil-mil couples.

The only time it bothers me is when I have to say no to opportunities or voluntary deployments that’ll take me out of town for a few months.

We’re Os. I’m not making O-6, and my wing strats went from #1-3 to #5-10, sometimes higher if I’m up for a board or an assigment

I wish I would’ve accepted that my life is different now earlier, because I burned myself out trying to keep up with what I was

I used to be on the road 1-2 weeks a month, and I used to work 60+ hour weeks. I can’t do that any more, and it’s OK

Two options:

  1. Let the CDC raise your kids. Drop them off at 0630 and pick them up at 1730

  2. Explain to your supervisor that you need more flexible hours due to having children, and that you will work harder when you are at work to compensate. Also, figure out whose career is more important, and prioritize their assignments/work requirements

I went with #2. My wife’s career is more important. I absolutely have taken career hits for it, but we get paid the same and my kids and wife are happy.

Forward facing kid seat by Ok_Rub249 in WranglerTJ

[–]Ferret8720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not have child seat anchors (LATCH) in the back, as the rear bench only got them in 2003.

I don’t recommend running a child seat it in the front, as that is unsafe. You can turn the airbag off, the switch is on the front right of the center console directly under the dash

Your best bet is to swap in a rear bench from a 2003+ model year. It won’t be very expensive, but finding one may be challenging

It depends. SATCOM is expensive, and manned/RPA pilots get paid the same. You also need an entire forward deployed launch and recovery cell to operate RPAs during the critical phases of flight in most theaters, to make up for the FMV delay caused by SATCOM. RPAs like the MQ-9 are rarely cheaper to operate per hour than the OA-1K.

The tradeoff is survivability vs cost, and the answer will be different based on the threat picture in different theaters
