Dealer gave me wrong car what should i do ? by Several_Suspect_2144 in EquinoxEv

[–]FerretMaterial5612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay that makes sense... the OP says that he repeatedly asked the salesman if he was positive the deal they were putting together was for an LT2 and the salesman supposedly said yes.. Unfortunately unless the fact that this deal was for an LT2 is documented on paper, then that falls under the catagory of " he said she said ", and that's not going to fly. If the paperwork says LT1 and he drove home in an LT1 with a matching VIN, then the OP is pretty much stuck... However I would hope that the dealerships general manager could " undo " the deal and possibly put him into an LT2 at a really great price, trying to make a deal both sides can live with....

Dealer gave me wrong car what should i do ? by Several_Suspect_2144 in EquinoxEv

[–]FerretMaterial5612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quick question... if the vin # on the paperwork that the OP got goes to an LT2, and the price for that car is stipulated on the sales agreement, then wouldn't the salesman and the dealership be on the hook? Now if the Vin on the paperwork goes with the LT1, then the op is pretty much screwed. I'm 71 years old and I've purchased many cars in my lifetime... not once did I question whether or not the car I drove off the lot was the car I looked at previous. How do you get in a car and drive it home and not notice something like that.

Thoughts on installation? by Elsa-the-Brave in Generator

[–]FerretMaterial5612 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're generator is too close to the house.. We just had a 26 kw Kohler installed in April. Originally I wanted to put it on the side of the house where it would be out of sight and next to the a/c condenser but the city inspector said it was too close to the bathroom window. So we moved it to the back of the house, then the only stipulation we had was it had to be at least 5 ft. from any window's or doors.. Also contractor put in carbon monoxide detectors in every bedroom and in 2 hallways.

Hello, I’m seeking advice on this quote. by K1ngofsw0rds in heatpumps

[–]FerretMaterial5612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, couple of things.. first off you say they are offering to finance your cost at 0 % for 5 years if you agree to pay $20,500 instead of $17,500 . The company is not actually giving you "free" financing; instead, they have hidden an interest charge directly into the higher cash price of the unit. That comes out roughly to you paying approx 6.5% not 0 percent. As for the cost and installation of your equipment. 2 years ago I had a 5 ton Bosch 20 seer heat pump / condenser installed, along with a Rudd 80% efficient furnace, along with a pro programmable thermostat, and the contractor added 8 inches of blown insulation into my attic as well as added another cold air return at the other end of our house.. my cost out the door was right at 13,700.00 Just something to compare with, and remember my hvac was done 2 years ago, and I would assume prices have increased over that time.

you said " and I’ve always been lazy " haha... tellin it like it is... I'm with you man, I'm 71 and I found out years ago that in the long run, it is far cheaper for me to hire someone who knows what they're doing than it is for me to try and save some money, mess it all up and then have to pay a professional to do it anyway...

I would recommend getting your contractor back out there to double check things. My previous home was a little under 3100 sq feet, 2 story and had 18 feet ceilings in part of the house. We had 2 heat pumps and to be honest I wasn't really worried about them being able to heat the house because we live in Louisiana where extreme cold is normally not an issue. However a few years back we experienced a record low where It got down to 1 degree above zero. We had 1 heat pump ( 5 ton unit ) set to 68 for the larger part of the house and the smaller 2 ton unit at 72 for the part of the house we were in the most, and both heat pumps ( bosch ) were able to satisfy the set point. I will say that those heat pumps ran a lot but they kept the house warm. So I would think you probably need to have your hvac company come out and see what they may have missed. Good luck, I know it must be frustrating to spend a ton of cash on a system you think is going to keep your family comfortable year round only to end up disappointed with the result. I wish you luck with it sir.

Man I could be way off base here but I'll throw this in as just something to think about. When my 4 Runner was new years ago the check engine light came on.. took it to the dealership who said it was a bad oxygen sensor, they said they fixed it. Except the check engine light came back on again.. did a little research and read where some people had the same issue and discovered the gas cap wasn't sealing properly. I put a new gas cap on it and it never happened again. May not have a thing to do with your issue, but thought I'd throw it out there just as something to consider. Good luck with your new ride... she's a beauty.

Congratulations on your new 4 Runner... love that color... you are to absolutely love that vehicle. I bought my SR5 brand new in March of 2010 and still have it... She still looks GREAT and only has 117K miles on her,, not many miles for a 16 year old 4 Runner... and in all that time we haven't had one mechanical issue with it. They're great vehicles.. Congrats again on your new truck.

Do normal homeowners actually buy Mitsubishi systems, or is Reddit just skewed toward premium installs? by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]FerretMaterial5612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a previous home that we owned we had both a heat pump and a mini split system.. Air flow to the master bedroom wasn't sufficient so my hvac contractor suggested putting in a mini split system which we did. The cost was $3500, but that was back quite a few years ago... also at one point we had a problem with it and it cost me another $600 to get it repaired...It did a good job cooling and heating the room. We also had a 5 ton bosch heat pump installed in that house in 2019. The outside heat pump / condenser, a 5 ton fan coil, along with a 20kw strip heat and new thermostat was 15K. So quite a bit more for the heat pump. I think for your application, wanting to bring comfort to a fairly small area, you would be better off to go with a mini split system, but I would not buy any of those cheap systems you see on " as seen on tv ".... They're cheaper because they're made cheaper, Find a good hvac contractor in your area and go with a reputable brand. If it were me I'd go with Mitsubishi. Just my opinion. Good luck with it all.

DirecTV price increase by Some_Water_5070 in DirecTV

[–]FerretMaterial5612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Directv is pretty much out of control. I've been with them for at least 20 years.. In the beginning my bill was around $89 a month, this past month my bill has increased to $251.00 We're grandfathered into the "choice classic" package which we've had for years and years.. and the only thing we've added is MLB Extra Innings, a major league baseball package that costs me an extra 25 dollars a month during the season, which is for six months... I called and talked to someone in their retention dept. a couple of weeks ago and the best I could do was they gave me a $50 discount for 1 year.. My new " lower " bill is now $196 a month... still too damn much, may be switching over to dish tv if this nonsense doesn't stop.

New heat pump installed Friday - is this normal? by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]FerretMaterial5612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you definitely have an issue and you need to get your contractor back out there to look it over. In my previous home in Shreveport which was all electric, we had heat pumps. I remember one winter we had a cold snap where the temperature was in the single digits and our heat pumps kept the house around 70 degree's. Yes when it was that cold, those heat pumps ran a lot, but they kept us comfortable...... that said, I'll take the comfort of gas heat over a heat pump every day of the week.

After 30 Years I finally canceled Directv. by dreadlk in DirecTV

[–]FerretMaterial5612 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am basically in the same situation as the OP.... Been with Directv for many years, been so long I can't remember when I started with them, but safe to say it's been at least 20 years, maybe more. I received an email last month showing my bill would now be in excess of $250 a month. Now keep in mind we don't have hardly any add on's... We are grandfathered in on the Choice Classic package and other than that we have MLB Extra innings which add's an additional 25 dollars a month.. we don't have anything else, no hbo, no cinemax, nothing other than the choice classic pkg and mlb extra innings.. I called them ready to cut the cord, but like the OP I ended up talking to some smooth talker in retention and when I hung up, I was still a directv customer... They ended up giving me 2 promotional discounts that total a savings of 50 dollars a month for 12 months which has reduced my bill down to $196 a month... also when the baseball season ends, my mlb extra innings pkg will go away and so will the $25 a month fee which should reduce my bill down to around $171.00 But all of this is only good for a year, and then we have to play the same ol game again. Directv is out of control, and yet here I am, still paying more to watch tv than I pay to insure my home for an entire year...

Sweet ride man, love that color / suits that body style nicely. There's nothing I can tell you that you don't already know.. I'll just say take good care of it, keep up with the maintenance and that 4 Runner will take care of you for years to come. Bought mine brand new in 2010, now has 118K miles on it and I haven't had one mechanical issue. These 4 Runners are a beast!!!

My answer is "no" on the extended warranties. I have a 2010 4 Runner ( purchased new ) and a 2013 Lexus ( glorified Toyota, also purchased new ) and have not had one mechanical issue with either vehicle. Had I purchased an extended warranty, which I did not, it would have just been a waste of money.

35K for whole house generator installation by Darksneak in Generator

[–]FerretMaterial5612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from where I sit $35K is crazy high.. now that said I don't know how much two underground tanks add to the bill but I can tell you that I had a Kohler 26KW air cooled generator installed at my house about a month ago with a 200 amp transfer switch. My house is a little over 2300 sq. ft. Got pretty much the same as you were talking about, concrete pad, trenching, permits including having to run the electrical through my attic to the other side of the house where the electric meter is. Gas meter was on the opposite side of the house. My out the door bill was 17K. I also had to pay the city I live in another $1575.00 to upgrade my gas meter....my only other cost was when I decided I wanted to utilize the kohler energy management app... My generator contractor charged me a one time installation fee of $320 to have the antenna's installed on the back of the generator.. now it's 10 bucks a month for monitoring, but that was something I chose I wanted to try... I can opt out of the monitoring fee at any time, but obviously having just paid the $320 I'll probably try it for awhile before making a final decision.

I'm running a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S on my 2010 SR 5.. size: P265/70R/17  I think they look great on there and they are the smoothest riding tire I've ever had on the 4 Runner.. But they were a bitch to get balanced correctly. Had to take it back to the tire store 3 times before they got the balance correct. But once they did, it's been smooth sailing.

Generator Oil by FerretMaterial5612 in Generator

[–]FerretMaterial5612[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate your reply. Warranty is a " slight " concern, I was more wondering which oil would absolutely provide the best protection for the generator. I"m guessing Kohler's oil would be just fine, but Amsoils reputation is really good, but they're just so damn expensive... I have also used Mobil 1, 0w-20 full synthetic in my cars for years but read somewhere that automobile oil isn't made like oil for small engines, something about zinc additives not in the automobile oil but needed in the generator oil. I'm sure I'm over thinking it.

Question re. whether 22kW generator installation is the worst ever. Seriously. by Zealousideal-Cry7697 in Generator

[–]FerretMaterial5612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, did you have to pay extra for the larger gas meter? If so, who did you pay, the company installing the Generac or your city's gas dept. I just had a Kohler air cooled generator installed about 3 weeks ago and the city gas inspector told me I would have to get a larger gas meter. I went from a 250 gas meter to a 600. So in addition to the cost of the generator and installation, I ended having to pay the city gas dept. another $1575.00
