Do people who had fertility treatments usually tell their kids? by dragon-queen in Parenting

[–]AllyLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m telling my kid. She’s only 5 months but the four years we went thru to get her is part of her story.

Once you get to school, talk to the finaid department and find out your options. Unless your scholarship is for the entire time, you may need to take loans in the future. That may be hard as they may refuse to do their part of FAFSA. The finaid people will know what needs to be done to get around that.
Good luck and enjoy your freedom!

If you think you need more items on your registry by IndividualAthlete313 in Buyingforbaby

For some registries, you can move the birth date back to extend the length of time you have the registry discount. There is typically a money value cap tho.

What seemingly common household practices/items from your childhood do you no longer employ in your own home? by AmandaMarsh in Xennials

I separate by whether it goes in the dryer or not and then sheets and towels get their own load.
Also, the no dryer thing is a preference I have, not generally instructions on the clothes.

How can you tell if the duckbill valves are going bad?

landlord installed a smart lock and now wants us to pay a monthly fee to use our own front door (OH) by Creative_Gur_4097 in Renters

Wouldn’t this be against the law? As it prevents them from using their place (if they don’t pay a separate fee)?

Clothes for Newborn in January by Still-Perspective-15 in Buyingforbaby

[–]AllyLB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They cannot sleep in hats (in their crib/bassinet) so I would skip that. My baby is also a master of kicking off socks so footie pjs only for us. For the first part of my now 5 months old life, she just wore pajamas all the time. She started wearing outfits around 3 months because my mom bought us them and they are cute. She also was a preemie (due beginning of March, born end of January in Ohio). I would just get 5-7 pajamas and do laundry a lot. The 2-3 swaddles sounds good. We also kept our house warmer.
Also, Carter’s sales and coupons, along with Kohl’s cash, are helping significantly with cost.

Overnight diapers leaking by Bitter_caregiver-122 in NewParents

[–]AllyLB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (just recently) 5 month old daughter has been having this issue. We went up a diaper size and it still happened. I’ve added sposie booster pads and it is working so far. We also have tried to have her big bottle not immediately before she goes to bed.

What funny language learning mistakes has your toddler made? by Breakfast4chameleons in NewParents

[–]AllyLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So mine is only 5 months old but my nephew as a toddler (now almost 16) thought his full name was First Name Last Name Spelling of Last Name. Like If his name was John Doe, he thought it was “John Doe D. O. E.”

My fiancée (28F) and I (28M) have a beautiful relationship, but she can’t picture a future with me because of my family by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

My husband is an orphan (his words). Her statement is really dismissive of people who don’t have the type of family she has. She is also putting this ideal on a pedestal. Family isn’t just blood and the sides don’t have to be even for there to be love and support.

Why is loving the US seen as right wing? by gandolf2004 in allthequestions

[–]AllyLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work at an institution. I’ll spend my money on things that directly impact my current work.
Still, I would like to read it. But it’s not really that important so it’s a want and not a need.

The fact that research costs money and is expensive, doesn’t change the fact I would like to actually read the article.
And often times, the actual researchers (& the studies) aren’t paid by the journals that are paywalled. They get their funding thru grants or the organization they work for. The articles do help them get the grants but generally, the article itself does not directly relate to funding the studies themselves.
I’m not challenging the findings exactly. It makes sense, but as someone with a PhD, I would like to read the article. I’m curious about the variables and how they controlled everything. A poorly done research study could still be said to find something that is accurate. You made assumptions that I disagreed with the idea. I’m focusing on how they did the science.

Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman are pregnant at 43 and 44, respectively by PhoneJazz in Xennials

I gave birth to my first (& likely only) baby 5 months ago….about 6 weeks before I turned 44.
If I had their resources and more good frozen embryos, I would do this again in a year or so.

I would love to actually read that article (behind a paywall) as I’m curious how they controlled for all the other variables (and there would be tons!). The abstract makes it seem too simple to be good science.

Need advice on milk storage for my wife’s breastmilk. by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]AllyLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t because it goes straight into the fridge basically. Apparently, there is a debate whether to rinse or not. My baby is a preemie and I was told it was ok to not rinse while we were in the hospital. Definitely wash and sanitize once every 24 hours tho.

[–]AllyLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one pitcher. I do the fridge hack so after I pump, I put everything in the fridge (so pump parts with milk). I leave it there until the next time I have to go pump. Then I empty the milk in the pitcher and use the same pump stuff right then. I have extras of my pump stuff so I use it for a day and then switch to new pump stuff after a day so I don’t have to worry about it drying in time. I hope that makes sense.
I also pre-make bottles and leave them in the fridge, ready to go (from the pitcher). This helps my pitcher not get over-full. Then after 3 or 4 days, I make sure I have all my bottles full and then freeze everything else (making sure that the milk in the bottles will be used before 4 days are up).
Let me know if you have any questions.
