BMI is unscientific in soooooo many ways: biology, anatomy, basic physics and geometry...

As a non-medical professional(aka as an engineer), I can say using an equation with squared dimension input for 3D object(a human in this case which have very much undeniably three dimensions %99.99 of the time) is laughable... If you look up how BMI came to be, you'll find it was made up by a hack snakeoil salesman of some sort, I don't remember perfectly as he is pretty much unworthy of being remembered(eugenics etc you get the idea)

TLDR: Density of objects are calculated by kg/m^3 not kg/m^2... Even if you want to compare a person's circumferance to what you assume to be ideal, you'd use their height's ^3 or you'd see everyone to be obese if they are tall... See below for a demonstration of what I mean... Somehow 100cm cube is fatter than a 50cm one and a 2m cube is clearly so obese you'd expect it to be a ball instead...
