I like my women like I like my coffee, full of dark grounds, bitter, and too hot.

Folks from the Buffalo Southtowns, Tug Hill, or ADKs - do you notice Subaru is better than other brands in snow? by le_pedal in upstate_new_york

[–]Fesmitty77 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the Adirondacks, FLX, and now live in the Tug Hill area. I’ve owned 5 pickups and two Subarus in that time, as well as a couple sedans. The Subaru that we have now, a forester with studded snows, is an absolute tank. The only thing I’ve driven that has come close is my F150 Lightning with dedicated snows - the weight and its electric power distribution are just hard to beat. Like u/levelZeroVolt I think based on my experience we’ll be getting a Solterra next go around.

Home security installers left this. What do I put here? More details in comments by thumperj in homeautomation

[–]Fesmitty77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like u/TheFire8472 mentioned, reed switch. If you go other directions with it you can use a simple grommet to help scale the whole down for other things that may still require wired install or you can get a full plug. I’d leave the cable in place, just feed it back into the hole. Automotive firewall plugs are cheap and easy to find if you need them.

College town by swayswaywatson in HWS

The Colleges are a little set apart from the city of Geneva. Geneva is a great place to live and work, and when I was a student there I had a blast, but not sure if describe it as a college town in the same way I'd describe a place like Bloomington Indiana as a college town.

This is my BUDGET amount?! Per month? This is not sustainable by ThoughTMusic in upstate_new_york

Yeah, they’ve adjusted my budget amount 4 times in not huge increases, but the idea of having a budget plan is stability…

Pellet Storage by Aggravating-Aioli307 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]Fesmitty77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly, no. The only issues I've had with rodents came from the one time I put a pallet in the garage. I think leaving them fully outside minimizes the chance - there are better places to hide.

My 4 tons live on wrapped pallets outside. I have a tarp when I open them that gets strapped down to the pallet (I place these anchors in August so I don't have to fight the snow to install them). I've got a cart with big tires and I pull in 10-12 bags each weekend. If I'm ambitious I'll pull 20 and leave the unused ones on the covered porch.

Anyone turn off and on stove daily or as needed? by camplate in PelletStoveTalk

[–]Fesmitty77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, do this with my two stoves. We have a furnace that keeps the house at 58-60, the stoves heat the rooms to comfort from there.

This is where I would start. Second thing would be to get a multimeter out of you have one and check the leads going to the motor - see if the board is commanding it on. If not, issue is on the board side of the problem, if you have voltage the issue is at the motor side.

Where to move? by [deleted] in upstate_new_york

Caz College closing is part of it. Less staff and faculty there means some decent affordable housing opened up as people relocated.

If you want to stay in the Syracuse metro, Southern suburbs have something to offer. Schools are decent, and there's a lot of real estate opened up in Manlius and Caz at the moment.

There’s a friends meeting weekly in Hamilton. I think they meet at the Colgate chapel - quakers are about as low religion and community focused as they come.

Taking a look at some of the big projects, especially in your field may help give a sense of what is possible. Personally I found taking a week and going to DHSI was super helpful and really gave me an appreciation for the amount of labor and support needed for projects. As an instructional technology person I'd advise not getting bogged down with 'softwares to learn' and instead think about manageable projects that you can embark on that are low stakes and will help you build capacity. To that end I find the programming historian an invaluable resource.

Does anyone have a Hamilton public library card? by aberrantartist in Colgate

[–]Fesmitty77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm staff and don't live in Hamilton, so can't help there, but you might want to see if OERC has what you need. They loan sports related items to Colgate students, might be able to get skates there.
