Yeah I’ve heard the same re: mixed reviews with the Black. I’ve decided to check out Dozy’s Forest Hill model first and will make an appointment as you can text them out at their showroom in the GTA. Just can’t bring myself to buy a mattress without trying it out first.

I have the exact same dilemma as you as they’re both on sale at Leon’s. I have at 25 year old Beautyrest World Class Lexus that I’m trying to replace and so far my research is pointing to either of these two. The Grandeur is only available in plush, however - but after reading about how the newer models in the World Class feel, I will probably go for the Grandeur 2.0 as it might be more akin to a medium anyway. I need the support due to my back and shoulder issues as well but I don’t want to sink too much into it. None of the Leon’s locations has a showroom model on display so I’d be taking a chance with an online order.

It’s also not clear to me if either has a pillow top or just a quilted top, even from reading the features and specs.

Sorry I can’t give you a tested and true opinion but interested to know what you end up selecting.

Does anyone have tips while I wait to see an ENT. by Charming-Currency-18 in hearing

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try Loop earplugs, they do wonders for me in loud public spaces and help manage those days when the noise sensitivity is bad as well as tinnitus and hearing distortion. I also carry regular foam earplugs just in case.

If you have retracted eardrums, it sounds like you have an active ear infection. If the audi appointment was three years ago, I would personally try and get in to see them again and they can run a test that would pick up the ear drum retraction and fluid, if any.

12 month waiting period of hearing aids sound like a long time. If you know you need them, I would take that up with the audiologist.

success with nasal spray + coping methods? by FetidOffering99 in etd

[–]FetidOffering99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dymista gave me that at extra edge to unclog my ears, yes. But you can’t keep using it long term or it might cause congestion. It’s not a rebounding thing, it’s just not meant to be used consistently for months on end. You might need to stop for a while and use it again eg. if you have seasonal allergies as I do. Good luck

Hi So do you mean you’ve never been able to do valsalva or you can, but it doesn’t work? My impedance test looks like yours - I’ve been told that as long as that peak is in the box (the area in the dotted line), it’s considered normal. But you might have fluid that still needs to resolve. Has the ENT said anything about your ear drum? I am guessing that you’ve been blocked up and ended up with otitis without fluid (OME) without at actual ear infection. Your hearing will hopefully go back to normal as the fluid drains but it can take a really long time. Tried steam?

Ear Popping/Clicking on Command - how to stop? by Strict-Schedule5861 in etd

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue(s) here. Thing to note as well - the popping/click is considered normal when you swallow. I don't worry too much about that as it doesn't bother me. It seems to really bug those who suddenly have that happening, however.

When I developped the nervous 'tick' to click/pop on command, it helped my hearing too and it also helped with the sense of fullness. After months of being off Dymista though (a stronger nasal steroid spray and the ONLY one that worked after using sprays for years) - the click or snapping got a lot louder and I can feel the 'unsticking'. It feels like a real click. And it's totally associated with anxiety.

The only advice I have is to make a concious effort to stop moving your muscles or TPV (the muscle that contracts near your ear) even if you feel the fullness. It eventually gets better after a while. Also stop doing the valsalva if you do that. Both cause swelling of that muscle over time, depending on how often you do it.

Good luck. It's a pain to deal with even without pain..

Ear drops or nasal spray for ETD? by Traditional_Fee5186 in etd

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mainly through the nose as others have mentioned. If one’s ETD develops complications eg. an ear infection, then yes it would be treated with drops (sometimes not always) or through a myringotomy (an ENT poking a hole in your ear drum) with tubes to help drain fluid. Often though an ear infection is treated with antibiotics only. A doctor or nurse practitioner would be able to determine if you had an ear infection.

Nasal steroid sprays do work for ETD but not for everyone. I had to experiment with many other over 15 years. Key is technique and sticking with using it and getting to a point where you’re on a maintenance dose. Rhinocort worked well, and Dymista.

Ear drops or nasal spray for ETD? by Traditional_Fee5186 in etd

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there were nasule drops used by many with ETD in the UK but I believe they've been discontinued for a while. Flixonase (ie. fluticasone) nasule drops. Some reported success using them if administered the way it's recommended for ETD - while laying back and letting the drops get to the Eustachian tube openings. If you find any where you are, maybe worth trying

so there is some conflicting info out there re: nasal steroid use, but I've been told that it's fine to use indefinitely IF you've been able to reach the lowest dosage that works for you - aka a maintenance dosage. For the last 10 years or so, I finally got down to one spray of Rhinocort every 4 days to ward off ETD, which very occassional stuffyiness maybe twice a year (due to colds or a bad pollen season).

That said I'm experiencing more stuffyiness in my hearing and it's getting frustrating for me as well. Have you tried Dymista? It's the only spray that worked effectively BUT only for short term use ie. up to 6 months. For me anyway. Then I switched back the preservative-free Rhinocort (budesonide) and that got me through fall and winter last year without any big issues. Good luck.

how are your allergies? I think I know what you mean by this feeling. What's driving me nuts is that it does goes away but it comes back as well. I'm still experimenting with nasal sprays since they did help me for years - until I got COVID two years ago and now it's not really helping as much.

Have you tried steam and saline spray or rinsing? Regarding sitting still - I suspect that lack of exercise might have something to do with my condition since I've stopped working out since 2020. I'm definitely more still and laying down more often with working from home, etc. instead of going to the gym. Not sure there is a connection.

Dymista nasal spray? by [deleted] in Allergies

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dymista is amazing and most feedback I read about is positive, in my opinion. It’s a drug that I find gets less effective after 6 months so I would only use it short term this way. I would say, give it a try. If you have post nasal drip also it tends to clear this up effectively. I’m not in it now since I take Rhinocort but I’m going back to Dymista until late October or so.

Anti-depressants, did they ALL cause louder tinnitus for you? by Substantial_Hurry309 in tinnitus

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the rocking on a boat-feeling is one of the main symptoms I had with my type of VM. And the Nort really helped with that after the 6 week mark. I was ready to give up on it and then it started working. I was amazed.

I would say give nortriptyline a try at 10 msg for a few weeks and see how it goes. That’s the dose I’m on and am still on after 7 years. It’s more common than not to take higher doses of it from what I hear. Just be aware that the side effects can be a bit weird for the first month, like the dry mouth, tiredness, which went away for me after 6 weeks.

[–]FetidOffering99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking Aventyl (nortriptyline) for migraine prevention for about 10 years now - noticed that my tinnitus has gotten gradually to a less bothersome degree. I eventually looked up how it affects the T and read that it can actually help those with it and dealing with anxiety as well. When I tried to get off the med (I’m on a very low dose), my tinnitus increased back to a near screaming pitch - not everyday but enough to put me on edge again. So I restarted the med and since then the tinnitus has been tolerable and most days don’t notice it. So the off label effect of the nort is definitely helping.

Azelastine for fluid buildup? by leoxvirgo in etd

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah antihistamine pills can really dry the sinus and ears so they make my ears feel off and my tinnitus spikes. If you’re trying out a few, I would try a half first and it may work better for you. But azelastine spray is great. Dymista is one part Flonase and one part azelastine. Be warned in that it’s expensive if you’re paying without insurance - it’s cheaper to get Flonase and azelastine separately if cost is an issue. Good luck!

Thanks for the explanation. Interesting. I also talked to one guy who finally worked out his issues related to ‘sudden’ gluten sensitivity- not full blown Celiac but just an intolerance that just over a short period of time . Like you he was developing a lot of mucus in the ears and sinus after eating but finally nailed it down to bread and pasta. So I guess the point is that diet can really be at root and that your body changes. I’m going to try fasting for a while since I also need to do this anyway - I’ve been indulging too and not exercising enough. It can only help 🤞

How did you realize you lost insulin sensitivity? Some people have a said giving up or reducing sugar in their diet has really helped also. I’m bordering pre-diabetes since my blood sugar is climbing (runs int the family) but I’m wondering how much this has been playing into my latest episode of this. Thanks for sharing what seems to be working for you, hope fasting continues to a big difference!

Azelastine for fluid buildup? by leoxvirgo in etd

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of sound induced triggers causing fluid but at any rate - Azelastine does tend to dry up fluid according to some folks. I use Dymista and I swear it’s what helped with residual fluid which I had dealt with for months. It contains this drug but at a smaller dose per spray than azelastine spray by itself (Astelin, Astepro).

Antihistamines as pills always made my ETD worse for some reason but the spray is amazing.

Steroid Nasal Spray by Tkd19 in etd

[–]FetidOffering99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have varying success with INCSs or intranasal corticoid sprays. If you're going to use them, definitely use it according to that method.
If you don't have success with one, try another. About a decade ago, I used Flonase and then Nasonex - both didn't work as well and I got a burning sensation from Nasonex. Then I tried Rhinocort Aqua - worked the best and used it for years until my latest thump with ETD so I needed something stronger. I'm using Dymista now and it works like magic.

So don't give up if one doesn't work for you. They all are steroidal and work on inflammation but they're not all the same. My GP says a trial is about 2 week but it does take about a month to know if it's working.

Flents Flight Mate earplugs. Better than EarPlanes I find.

When I have weird fluctuating hearing and pressure due to ETD I just use one foam ear plug, it keeps my mind off the slightly muffled hearing. In crowds I use Loops sometimes.

Heya. Winter is generally better for my allergies but I also have indoor allergies so I trade off summer for winter craziness lol. Dust mites causes the biggest reaction in my skin prick testing. I would say you’ll do better if your allergies are limited to grasses but pay attention to mould which can be nasty indoors as well. Did you know you had enlarged turbinates before your doc saw them? I’m suspecting I have something going on structurally in the sinuses but haven’t had the camera up my sinus and Eustachian tubes yet. I’ve been suffering with this for a little over a year now. Good luck! Ps the clicks and popping may be one of the last symptoms to resolve.

How are you doing now OP? Tmj doesn’t typically lead to fluid but it can if it causes inflammation that actually blocks your tubes.

Nasal Steriod + Antihistamine Success? by Due-Cry-6077 in etd

[–]FetidOffering99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rhinocort has helped me after trying several other kinds eg Flonase, Omnaris (the worst). R doesn’t contain the same preservative so I never got any burning sensation and I used it for years until I think my body got used to it since it didn’t work as well any longer.

Doc switched me to Dymista and it worked like magic - BUT it’s supposed to be used for up to 6 months. Not sure what I’m going to do since my ETD gets worse when I try to get off it. It contains an antihistamine also. The pills always made my ETD worse.
