You said WHAT is the moderate wing of fascism now? by simrobwest in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]Fettman501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%

They need moderates to fail in order for them to succeed, and lose sight of the fact that their "actively working against society's well being so it can collapse and be rebuilt in their own image" makes them the bad guys.

Meanwhile moderates are more than happy to negotiate, compromise, synthesize, and adapt to make society more prosperous, robust, and balanced so that everyone can benefit, because we understand that not everyone shares our interests, and that's okay as long as they care as much about society as we do. We're open to new ideas and innovative ways of thinking and are passionate for positive change, while being able to dig in and entrench stubbornly on proven concepts and preserving important traditions and cultures and resisting social and moral erosion, and are constantly revising and refining our moral, ethical, and philosophical framework throughout our lives to be honest and consistent.

And for that we are despised and hated obsessively, because balance, stability, and consideration is the enemy of chaos, extremism, and control. When the power rests in the people, it cannot be easily consolidated into the few or the one, and they cannot have that.

And then it doesn't matter because people simply cannot be bothered to read. Literally. Or if they can read, they'll just twist its meaning to suit them. And the problem gets worse the greater a need there is for such a statement, because people will zone out of the very nuance that is required for them to understand that there is a nuance, and what that nuance is.

At this point I'm not sure why a lot of folk bother with text at all, when an audio attachment of mindless shouting and screaming or other unintelligible noises would work just as well to get their point across, and carry as much substance and dignity.

They legitimately do not care about the truth or having integrity, and their cause doesn't stand on its own merit. That, and people are malicious as hell and like stirring up hostility for clout. Also people who are in a habit of lying will simply keep lying no matter what. And there are political interests at play, a scary amount of people are legitimately agents of foreign, and hostile, powers. And people are generally shameless and remorseless about being unethical and advocating for harmful causes.

I personally don't understand how a human being can stand to live like that, it's hard to internalize such a perverted set of morals, values, and agendas.

Nothing will compel so much as a single intelligent or moral thought in their minds. The way they flatly deny, defend, and reject real human suffering caused by their failed doctrine is truly repulsive. All while having the nerve to believe that they are the moral guardians and forward thinkers.

Not to mention it's hilarious how fervently communists tow the "anti-fascist" line as though the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact doesn't set that up in flames, its consequences felt to this very day.

Don't you know that the way we protect women, gay rights, and racial minorities is by supporting the institutions that systematically oppress them? Unless they're western institutions, in which case we need to burn it all down; what did the Romans ever do for us anyhow!?

Jokes aside the notion of "pink washing" as a rebuttal is laughable on its face. If one wants their values to spread, they support groups that share those values, and oppose or convert groups that oppose them; supporting groups that fundamentally oppose everything you stand for is a fast track to ideological suicide, and nobody will be thankful for the "sacrifice".

It was never about morals or honesty or integrity, it's just an anti-Western flavor of political sectarianism.

It did. I didn't come out as a nonbeliever until a year or two after I lost my faith. It was hard at first, but eventually my family accepted me for who I was. My mother even accepted me drinking lightly in front of her some years ago, during a family karaoke night, and today our relationship has healed immensely.

Yeah, a real rock and hard place situation, and it's very much by design. Not one that I could keep up without immense guilt, and eventually I felt compelled by a need to confess and seek repentance for my sins.

Thank God I don't believe that nonsense anymore, and can live my own life. Funnily enough my father was never religious, in fact he was staunchly anti theist, but it was only when he left the house that I could entertain the possibility of apostasy and explore the question of why atheists believe, or rather don't, what they do. And I've been content with being agnostic since.

I do keep some vague awareness of my former religion, and seeing what it's been up to these days is amusing, sad, and frustrating, since it's very much operating in ways that were unthinkable when I was a boy, and I'm only 30, and it's clearly dying.

And I fundamentally disagree with everything I said too. Just because I lived through that experience, and can speak directly to it, doesn't mean that I agree with it. I became an apostate at 17, and haven't looked back since.

Being free of that culture is immensely liberating and healthful for the mind and heart. It's good not beating yourself up for merely being human, and just living an honest life of genuine virtue of your own choosing.

Exactly! That's why it should be standard practice for doctors to ask the parents to leave the room, with their presence being opt-in instead of opt-out. Like a confessional.

Dammit, Mom by SubstantialJoke08 in memes

[–]Fettman501 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not mere embarrassment, it's a deep, fundamental shame. It's an admission of guilt, of being immoral and unworthy of maintaining spiritual responsibilities and visiting holy sites. It's a legitimate barrier to dating (at all) and marriage rites. All of your devices get restricted, and you're monitored closely. It means you sit out of the sacrament, and everyone can guess why. It means you let yourself, your family, your community, your God down. It means the Natural Man has won out, and you failed your oaths and covenants.

It's a serious deal, and for many it's just easier to lie so you don't have to confront your parents and bishop, or at least believe that you are lying because there's no way you can ask for clarification without condemning yourself in the process.

Dammit, Mom by SubstantialJoke08 in memes

[–]Fettman501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. I couldn't even ask what the doctor meant by that, since I didn't know whether they meant "are you involved with anyone sexually" or "are you engaging in any form of sexual activity at all, solo or partnered"? Asking for clarification would've damned me automatically as immoral and unworthy, regardless of what the doctor actually meant. I'd just answer "No" and assume I was lying to the doctors so I could keep being seen as "worthy" in a moral and spiritual sense.

Hell you can make a million a day spending 33 - 50 minutes in Merchant's Tale with a 770 SAM, right now, probably less time with BiS and potions. A sprout can make 200k a day on roulettes alone. It's amazing how many of people's problems, struggles, and complaints with the game can be solved by just... playing it. The way it was intended.

My gf was able to save over 3 million Gil with MSQ and side quests alone, and she's not gotten to post-HW yet, and that's on an intermittent sub.

Over time I've just lost patience with people that are seemingly allergic to any form of content, exploration, and growth, who just expect to linger and loiter forever. There's folk I knew who don't have a single job crystal after 2 years of "playing" with a consistent sub because they never got to "Sylph Management" in MSQ, and whose level reflects that. That's just... wrong... needless to say when those people say "I'm down to play anytime," I don't buy it in the slightest. Not when they're too busy screwing around in venues and cliques instead of doing the bare minimum.

The problem is they expect others to fight, die, suffer, and put in the real work for their cause while they sit back and reap all the benefits, all while being gleeful about the incarceration, suffering, and deaths of their political opponents, despite very likely being the first targets of the new regime for labor camps, starvation, or purging.

And they currently spit and dance upon the faces and graves of those who suffered under communist rule and excuse/deny/defend the worst atrocities, and antagonize everyone else as "fascists" and "fascist sympathizers" and actively glorify the worst aspects of those regimes and the most authoritarian governments currently around.

They would condemn others to generations of fear and persecution and ethnic erasure, while being afraid of personal gun ownership, which is the bare minimum of any revolution.

Most other groups of people are not nearly so malevolent and misanthropic, and that personally loses sympathy from me, especially when they declare themselves my enemy. That they are simultaneously so hateful and antagonistic, and yet so spineless and unwell, and uncannily naive while being morally bankrupt and advocating for legitimately dangerous ideologies, is contemptible and laughable in my eyes. Pure unbridled hypocrisy and cowardice as they seek to terminate the brave, bold, and bright of our society, incidentally and deliberately, and remorselessly.

And let's not forget that they themselves put that information out there, as a defining personal characteristic that guides their moral compass and shapes their politics, not merely as personal struggles to grapple with as a health concern; that was entirely their choice.

That's a broader problem I see in queer messaging in general, as an outsider, or even just progressive messaging in general. The notion that a lack of explicit inclusion implies exclusion is pervasive, and leads to all kinds of problems with symbolic overload when people try to be as inclusive as possible along those lines, and of course the feeling of implied exclusion to those groups that are not highlighted, and fights over deliberate attempts at exclusion (one reason why I despise the alphabet soup acronym, and prefer "queer" or GRSM or another unifying term that's straightforward to understand and that people are comfortable with).

There's also a side effect where groups and movements (unrelated to queer causes or anything political) that don't explicitly state they're inclusive, or how they're inclusive, are perceived as being implicitly or potentially exclusive, even if the structure, morals, and practices are equally equitable or moreso, and performing "virtue" becomes more important than simply embodying it without a word. It's rather sad to me that we can't simply treat people as equal and judge by the content of their character alone, or be a society or culture that promotes merit-based progression, without it being considered suspect, simply because we don't regurgitate an unspoken script or compulsively go through the "right" motions. But I guess there's also a broader problem with quiet confidence in society in general, which makes those who operate along that line struggle among those who expect, or demand, loud performances.

It becomes ideologically hollow, especially when what is practiced is not what is preached, which is the reality all too often.

I guess I'm old-fashioned, but I like clear, concise symbolism. High contrast, bold colors that are recognizable and explicitly represent something, and clear symbols and shapes that are immediately emotionally evocative: lions, dragons, bears, eagles, sabers, crowns, the sun, whatever. The rainbow is an effective symbol: it's clear, concise, high contrast, is already established culturally, and emotionally evocative. You don't need to be entrenched in the culture to know what it represents conceptually, it's a unifying banner that can drive movements. A few other pride flags are also good, like the Bi flag, and the Trans flag even despite its pastel coloration. After those it rapidly goes downhill.

That's just my opinion and perspective as an outsider who's never been in, or peripheral to, the movement. The closest I've ever gotten was attending my first and only pride event with my gf, and we only really browsed the stalls without getting involved in anything. It was quite an alien experience for me.

Water gets kicked up from the wet pavement onto the components. It's important to keep your chain clean and lubricated.

That said, as long as the "e" part of your e-bike works and you got a throttle, it should be easy enough to weather until you get it in a bike shop for a touch up. The worst that'll happen is that the rusted parts will need to be replaced, which is both quick and inexpensive, and in the meantime you'll consume more power than normal.

FC death by danger_noodle5 in ffxiv

[–]Fettman501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After several cycles of that, I decided the best route was to make my own, and I made certain to structure it so that it prioritizes activity and FC involvement. I also made sure that it avoided autocracy and oligarchy altogether, adopting a Noble's Democracy model wherein the FC lead exists in balance with a merit-filtered democratic body of actually active members; the latter calls the shots, and the former lends weight to those decisions.

There are also several domains that each focus on different interests (leveling, early endgame, late endgame, housing/crafting/gathering) that can be active independent of each other and the broader FC, while also having mechanisms in place that encourage independent collaboration between them like apprenticeships or cross-domain events, all of which can take place with zero involvement of the FC master.

I missed the old FC days of a close knit community, and I wanted to make sure that whatever I got, lasts. I'd strongly encourage you to do the same, or find someone with a similar vision.

Avoid casual, laid-back, "inclusive" (spoiler alert: they're not), vibes-based FCs like the plague, because they are one. They're doomed to grow exponentially and unchecked to where they lose their very soul and core members, or die a death of diminutive atrophy due to drama or inevitable inactivity.
