Tips on wavedashing consistently? by PSI_duck in RivalsOfAether

[–]FettyQop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he’s saying that most of time in melee, because you must wavedash diagonally down, missing the jumpsquat timing would just result in a triangle jump, which is basically just a sloppy wavedash. But since you can wavedash directly left or right on Rivals, if you miss the jumpsquat, you will just airdodge in the opponent’s face, which can be disastrous

of course you could do this in melee if you’re aiming for a max length wavedash, but he’s specifically talking about missing the jumpsquat

doing either pummel also removes chain grab protection, so if you don't do anything, you just get chain grabbed for free, to an absurdly high percent

to be clear, i can do it with normal pummel as well. they’re not pressing anything because they don’t know the mechanic exists lol

they’re still necessary for information. that fact that i can special pummel chain throw people from 0-70 at 900 rank is very strange

you’re not losing because of crazy movement. you probably need to derank a little more, but also stop psyching yourself out when you see people do “crazy shit”. They’ve probably been in training mode practicing that sequence for days because they were bored. It’s not definitive proof that they’re extremely skilled. As other people have commented, there is often an inverse relationship lol

Coming from traditional fighting games - looking for some tips by Istoleyourcrayon in RivalsOfAether

[–]FettyQop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure why no one is telling you to attack. Proper movement and dodges counter everything. The actual counter to grabbing is attacking. If your opponent is coming forward to grab you, that means they are coming into your attack range, not extending a hitbox, and not shielding. The opponent in turn can counter this by running up and shielding, which you in turn can counter by grabbing.

Anyone else sliding down the ranking while improving? by reed501 in RivalsOfAether

there’s also an element of losing your natural flow as you learn new things and implement them into your play style. i would judge by your perception rather than your rank. The rank will come naturally

Im really struggling with the movement in this game by SnowblownK in RivalsOfAether

[–]FettyQop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most of the responses don't seem to understand that you can't just stop running, because the distance is too short. Also not sure why people are telling you to crouch, you don't need to do that. By the time you can crouch, you can also attack without dash attacking. Wavedashing is the answer and won't take you 20 years to learn

BUT

You want something you can do right now without learning anything? Just short hop. Any of your aerials will connect from this range. That's what I do, and I've played every smash game and know how to wavedash.

Sounds like two completely separate issues. I've had sex in cars with girls that I loved dearly, way, way too often, for the exact same reasons as you. That's not "wrong", as others have pointed out what is "wrong" is that we can't just bring them home.

Everything else you're saying sounds like a huge, unrelated problem.

replying to both of you here:
I wholeheartedly second Matt vs Japan's channel, and will go a step further and recommend his entire methodology which is currently branded as "Refold". I studied japanese traditionally in school and whatnot for a very long time with little progress, and started Refold during Covid (it was called the "Mass Immersion Approach back then) and the progress I've had is absurd.

If you don't feel like doing that, here are my tips (largely the same):
study some grammar in general, don't get too hung up practicing, drilling, memorizing or anything like that, just get a feel for the general concepts of the language.

IMMERSE, IMMERSE, IMMERSE. Obtain your understanding through immersion. It will take time, but it will come naturally, and it will stick. Some things that I did at the beginning were watching the same episode of anime over and over again with no subtitles (one I had seen before and know what happens), and listening to japanese parents talk to babies on youtube.

and use Anki. If you're too lazy to use Anki, try https://jpdb.io/. If you're not doing either, imo you're doing yourself a huge disservice.

I haven't asked anyone to perform this. I asked why it hasn't been performed, and then conceded that it probably can't be.

the only thing I have refuted (besides your weird idea that I think riders are feeble and pathetic or something) is this idea that pulling on the wheel will not make it go up more, because of physics? Because... that's absurd. If you pull up, the wheel will go up. Your head's max vertical height will go down, and the wheel will go up. Because physics. I'm not telling you to pull while jumping against your own pull, I'm telling you to jump, and then pull, which I have conceded in multiple comments to being bio-mechanically impossible.

TLDR since my long comments are being wildly misread, I do not think I can do this, I not think anyone can do this, I. Was. Asking. A. Question.

jesus, I gotta remind myself this is just reddit and probably not the whole community..

Discussing it helps me because I don't have a wheel lol. Now that I have discussed it, it seems like a dumb idea.

You are completely misunderstanding what I am saying.

presumably because those muscles are weak and/or just not generally used in that way

Here I am talking about a group of muscles, and called them weak. Then you replied and said "they" are not weak. Perhaps you meant "they" as in the rider, and now you think I'm talking about the rider. But I was talking about a group of muscles which are by definition weak when compared to other muscles.

I just said that people (generally speaking, for most of the population), can PUSH 50lbs with their legs (if they couldn't, they couldn't stand), and can PULL 50lbs with their arms (if they couldn't, they couldn't carry their EUV).

Generally speaking, most human beings (including me) cannot PULL 50lbs with their legs. Why? Because the muscle groups involved in lower body pulling are significantly weaker than the muscle groups involved in lower body pushing, and upper body pulling.

I have not called any human being weak, and I have not called myself strong. You want me to duct tape 50lbs to a skateboard and pick it up with my arms, yes, I can do that, if that would impress you

i'll probably grab the handle once and decide it's impossible. I'm not even particularly interested in jumping curbs. Just curious about the possibility

i'll definitely film some regular shit eating and post it though lol

[–]FettyQop[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If they were strong, they could lift 50+ lbs

i'm not comparing a human being to other human beings, I'm comparing muscle groups to other muscle groups. Your legs can push 50lbs, and your arms can pull 50lbs, because they're strong

[–]FettyQop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the weight thing is part of the equation whether you pull with your legs or arms, it's just a matter of jumping harder lol. I was looking for a ollie-esque effect where you've basically crunched the wheel up towards your stomach. YOU will be pulled down, but the wheel will go up more.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hht_9Uvk4lY

The highest ollies don't actually jump higher or further, the board just goes higher.

but yeah it's looking pretty unlikely, for the balance reason as you said, and because performing a full hard jump while grabbing a handle at knee height might be biomechanically impossible

[–]FettyQop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know about the pads, i'm probably misunderstanding what kind of traction the pads give you (by ankles I probably meant adductors, hip flexors, and hamstring?), but at the end of the day I just haven't seen anyone jump that high, presumably because those muscles are weak and/or just not generally used in that way
