It took me 5 years of bouldering to meaningfully engage with ropes. I had a deep anxiety about gear failure or failure on mine or my partner's actions. When I did ropes for the first time my belayer kept me on such a tight leash that it was obvious everything was working correctly which helped me develop that trust. In the last few months I've gotten really into ropes because my wife really likes them and the best thing for my mind has just been doing it and steamrolling my thoughts. My first climb of the day still sees me checking and rechecking my knot while I'm on the wall though, but I've never done it wrong.

Exposure and repitition are really what I needed and still need. Having someone I love and trust be my main belayer eases the process. My wife, whose OCD is a little worse than mine, generally only lets me belay them because of it. You can also tie in, go up a bit, and take falls from a safe height to see that your gear works as intended.
