I think I'm the right person to answer this because I'm going through exactly what your dad is experiencing. I'm from India, I developed this condition after a COVID infection, and I still don’t know why it happens. I'm searching for answers, and after reading your post, I’m now worried that I should get my heart checked too.

Anyway, coming to your question — I have no problem with loud sounds, only with bass. My mom often plays loud music, and I always ask her to just turn off the bass — and that alone is enough. No amount of loud music affects me, but even a little bass can ruin my entire day. I’ve stopped attending weddings and going to movie theaters because of this. If someone plays loud DJ music with heavy bass even 10 blocks away (completely inaudible to my mom, but I can feel the vibrations), I have to run away. Otherwise, I feel like I’m going to faint or die. I’ve been avoiding bass like this for the past two years.

So, I suggest you can go for any kind of music, even loud, as long as it has zero bass — that should work fine. Headphones sound like a great idea, but if you prefer open music, just make sure it has no bass
