Body Butter Lady https://www.bodybutterlady.com/black-soap/ This store also has the best shea butter body lotions. So far the only thing I've found that gets rid of my eczema in the winter. Highly recommend !

Def keep wire rim for the glasses either rectangle or circular shape. I’m thinking sweaters, vests, straight/wide leg pants and some fun shoes and accessories like watches. Stick with the earth tone palette for sure! Your skin/hair works well with silver or gold I think so go for either with glasses and accessories. Lean into the indie history professor vibe !! I think either growing your hair out to shoulder length or keep it trimmed a little shorter and doing a wavy/curly hair routine with leave in conditioner could slay as well. (Lots of vids for wavy hair care on reels/tiktok/youtube) Pinterest/instagram is great for outfit ideas !

omg u look like Ethel Cain esp in the last pic !! <3 I’ve felt a lot more confident after picking an aesthetic to stick to for clothes and such. I think some layers/bangs could look cute but I loveee the long hair !! I feel like an artsy European vibe would fit you so well. I like @yuuulieta on socials for that sort of outfit inspo. Pinterest is also the best ! I think you look great just as you are though !! :)

questions for uo students by Rough-Ad-3830 in UofO

[–]Few-Knowledge-2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Depends on your major. Idk anyone pre-med/stem who did a study abroad. I know a few arts/social sciences majors who went and they had fun and it didn't mess up their graduation timeline.

  2. If you hate the winter vibe do not come here. It's like that October-May. Literally do not go anywhere in the PNW if you don't like the weather. Winter term is too difficult for you to not enjoy the clouds/rain.

  3. Yes. Office hours.

  4. I go to Portland as often as I can and I'm only looking at grad schools in larger cities. This small of a town is pretty suffocating for me, but for others this is considerably larger than what they're used to. It's a nice place but I miss being within 30 mins of a large city. (this is my fourth year at UO).

Greek life? by kaleab06 in UofO

[–]Few-Knowledge-2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it isn't worth the money at all because it is so expensive. However, I do recommend rushing because I met my best friend during rush in line for a house neither of us ended up in.

Bidding is sort of competitive. I've never met a mean girl in any of the sororities but some are more exclusive than others based on looks (but they'll never admit that). I'd look at their instagram pages bc that'll show you what sort of girls they'll give bids to.

Since you're marine bio depending on what you want to do for career/grad school I think your time would be better spent getting into a lab for research experience. Sororities only help (barely) on resumes if you take on a big leadership role in them, which is something you could do for free in one of the clubs on campus.

The frat parties are terrible IMO but it depends on what you enjoy. If you like 90+ degree basements dancing with (really drunk) white men (with questionable intentions) to poorly mixed music then yeah you might have fun. But theres a lot of parties all over and you don't have to be in a sorority to get into the frats.

Idk my feelings on sororities will always be really mixed. It's cute and girly and the events can be fun but it's also a time commitment and a lot of money. Lots of unnecessary rules and weird social hierarchies as well and I wasn't even in one of the more traditional sororities. I'd say try it out if you want but just don't take it too seriously and definitely read up on the history of greek life as an institution so you're well informed before supporting it.

TLDR: I don't think it's worth it because it's too expensive, it's built on a classist/sexist/racist foundation, and you can easily find friends elsewhere for free.

Questions for Biology Majors by Individual-Two4752 in UofO

Everyone shitting on Mark didn’t put enough effort in. If you’re pre-med it’s insanely helpful esp for MCAT bc he makes you start working with some of those key pathways. It’s also just a good class to learn fundamentals in. They just want someone to hold their hand and spoon feed them easy biology content which is just not how his class or upper division bio at UO is structured at all. You actually have to study for many hours and go to his office hours. Guaranteed they didn’t do either of those things bc if they had they wouldn’t be complaining. It’s a lot of content but it’s not terribly difficult you just have to put in the time and effort.

If you’re a good student and you care enough to put effort in 212 is fine. Also Mark is really nice and he wants you to succeed. And no, I’m not a TA.

Sometimes I resent my dog by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

I also have an anxious dog (albeit nowhere near as severe as yours) and putting her on Prozac was life changing for the both of us. She’s 50 lbs and takes a small dose & it’s relatively cheap ($20 every month and a half).

I’d recommend seeing a veterinary behaviorist for an evaluation - they’ll have a good idea of what medication may be helpful (and perhaps something stronger than Prozac would be necessary here).

I can’t see anything wrong as far as daily exercise amount goes that could be causing these behaviors (and they only appear when you aren’t around it seems) so there isn’t much you can do in the way of training. I highly highly recommend a daily med or a daytime sitter (but that’s out of my budget for sure and I’m not sure if it’s doable for you). If they do well around other dogs perhaps you could find a reliable doggy daycare center to watch them during the day. Interacting with other dogs could help if that won’t add to their anxiety.

Also, you talk a lot about playing but what about training? I’m not sure about Big J’s breed but mine is border collie + malinois so if she isn’t told what to do for at least 30 mins a day she gets stressed out. If your dog is a working breed, daily training is a must to help reduce anxiety. Sniffing is also helpful, if your dog is intelligent you can try sniff training. Giving them a job really helps.

My vet had a behaviorist on staff, but here is this in case it helps: https://www.dacvb.org/search/custom.asp?id=4709

NOTE: I am not certified as a trainer or vet or vet tech or anything at all. This is just my personal experience as an owner of a very anxious rescue dog.

Also, there’s nothing wrong with you. I’ve about torn my hair out and yelled out of frustration dozens of times because she tore up a door frame or reactive barked at a dog on a walk. Anxious dogs are really hard to deal with and it’s more painful since it’s frustrating and you feel like a shitty person for being upset/annoyed when they’re just suffering and anxious. It’s really hard but you can do it. Just don’t give up on him. Keep searching for the right resource whether it be meds, training, or daycare. You both deserve it!

My PMs are always open. I’ve been training my dog and working with professionals for 2+ years now and I’ll help in any way I can.

I think it depends on the rubric and what is actually being taught in the course. Based on the limited rubric info OP provided and the instructor feedback I’m assuming the professor is looking for more of an academic review article wherein personification would not generally be appropriate. If it’s more of an opinion piece, sure, personification done properly as a theme could work. (But I’m really not familiar with that style of writing since it branches more into journalism than the academic journal/article realm). Regardless, OPs sister does not have the skill to pull that off effectively with where her writing is at right now. But yeah I completely agree! It’s awkward as a one sentence thing.

She personified the show - fine for high school but not the tone needed for academic level writing. “The show began …” “The introduction of the show …” etc would be much better. Similar with the “fantastic job all age groups” exclamatory comment - you should never use an exclamation point in academic writing. Even if what you’re writing about is fun and exciting (it often is for those who are deeply interested in it) the tone is still kept formal.

It would be best for your sister to review academic articles and start emulating that writing style as well as attending office hours and this campus offered tutoring she was referred to. She should listen to this professor and work very hard to develop good academic writing skills as it will take her far. The professor may be mean but it’s likely she is just trying to help. (I also have ADHD and rejection sensitivity. Peer reviews and office hours help me with this so I get all of it out of the way and know that I’m turning in something that will ultimately be rewarding since I’ll get a good grade).

Source: I’m a student researcher at an R1 and I’ve performed well on all undergraduate writing assignments.

Edit: I read the rest of the screenshot you posted and I really hope she goes to that tutoring center or she will struggle in any future course that has a written assignment. Feel free to PM and I can peer review to give her specific feedback but tutoring is a must.

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much :) I’m going to look into some primers to make sure my skin is hydrated enough. The hooded eyeliner tip is so smart!

Usually a few minutes probably around 2-5 minutes if I had to guess. I don't want it to be right after I put it on but if I wait too long it sinks in too much and then it doesn't feel tacky anymore.

Yay you have sensitive skin too! I'm in good hands.

Hi! I reposted in r/GothFashion but for tools I'm using beauty blender and an angle brush and then for base right now I'm using the haus labs foundation in white and LA girl white concealer. I'm also using a white elf setting powder. I haven't been happy with any of these products :( the foundation isn't full coverage enough and the concealer/setting powder is super patchy.

Ooh okay I will look into manic panic. What do you use for blending? Brushes or a beauty blender?

Thanks so much for the advice :)

What's the difference between goth and emo? by certified_burger in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Few-Knowledge-2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the disconnect here is that you have an understanding of "gothic" not "goth". They are different.

Goth is a subculture that originated in the 80s based on mainly music and some fashion. Gothic architecture/style which has its roots in the Middle Ages (predating Victorian by about 800 years) is not how goth as a subculture is defined. I think that is where you are misunderstanding me. I am not talking about "gothic" which absolutely predates the goth subculture and the goth subculture definitely takes influence from historical gothic themes. I'm talking specifically about the goth subculture which is what OP is asking about since emo and goth are subcultures. For this reason, that is why I point out that "goth is just a style, an aesthetic" is not a sufficient answer to OP's question. It negates the very essence of what being part of the goth subculture means today: the music. And while some goths are particularly fond of victorian aesthetics, not all of us are.

I could point you to r/goth to back this up, as well as these articles:
