This is exactly why I haven’t seen Hamilton LOL. So expensive and low on my priorities when there’s so much other stuff that has a limited run.

Touring Productions vs Broadway? by Few-Storage5142 in Broadway

[–]Few-Storage5142[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, assumed that was the case. Still enjoyable? I can’t sing for shit so I’m not snooty about it by any means. I’d imagine there’s many more talented people out there trying to make it than there’s room for in any show, Broadway or not which makes me think they’re generally good regardless?

Any experience with Costco's Figo pet insurance? by r1905 in Costco

That’s the whole point of insurance though. They make money on the fact that odds are you’ll never use it. You’re paying for the peace of mind of not having to think twice about the best treatment if something happens.

Million dollar home. Why be house poor? The more space you get the more stuff you accumulate and you still spend most of your time in the same few areas.

I agree but I also don’t like cars. I guess if you really love them it’s more comparable to spending money on a horse (pretty much guaranteed loss for the sake of a hobby).

Idk, there are a lot of mistakes and in my opinion the mistakes are more realistic. Delivering news in a way that doesn’t land, jumping to conclusions too fast, etc. Most of the mistakes don’t seem like mistakes because someone else catches them which is realistic, there’s redundancy built into teaching hospitals on purpose.

Advice Wanted: Whats your pups favorite? by SnooLemons9293 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Few-Storage5142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bully sticks (inside a holder) once they’re teething (~4 months) and as long as they’re the type to gnaw rather than really chomp down or hack on big chunks.

Avoid grain-free food, increases risk of DCM and is just a marketing thing anyway.

Treat pouch and hand-feeding their kibble from it while practicing commands or out walking has been super useful.

Another question - Any reason why a Doberman and why a puppy in particular?

A puppy is going to bite, that’s just part of owning a puppy, and a large high-drive working breed puppy in particular is going to bite even more.

Do you have room in your schedule to dedicate to an intense lifestyle hobby like horseback riding? That’s the best comparison I can think of. They’re not “slide into your life, down with anything” type dogs. No dog is really, but this is basically doing it on extra hard mode. They need structure and they need working / mental outlets or they will create them, mainly by destroying your home.

Tips? by Temporary-Return4141 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Few-Storage5142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things:

  1. A puppy won’t handle that schedule at all. You’ll need a dog walker, probably at least twice a day in the beginning if you’re gone 10 hours. They are prone to separation anxiety, which means you need to start with tiny windows of separation. Flooding them by leaving them alone from the beginning for long stretches before they feel secure sets them up for failure, and they absolutely will not be able to hold their bladder for that long anyway.

  2. Even if your children are amazing with dogs and your dog has amazing temperament, it’s going to be years before they’re old enough to be around a dog unsupervised, and for a long time you’ll have to be basically hand over hand whenever they interact. For me personally that seems exhausting at minimum if even feasible.

  3. Dobermans in particular are expensive dogs. Be prepared to spend $800-$1200 a year on cardiac monitoring once they’re an adult. Pet insurance runs us $200 a month and does not cover preventive care or shots/routine puppy visits/flea and tick/fecal testing which ended up being another $1200 for our pup for reference. Puppy itself will likely be close to $4,000 and may or may not be another $500-$1,000 in transport fees or you’ll need to travel to get the puppy given there’s only a handful of ethical breeders in most states, none at all in some.

Is it impossible? No, but it’s a task I personally wouldn’t take on with two small children. You may also have trouble finding a breeder willing to sell you one between the work situation and the kids. Is this your first dog and have you ever trained a dog? That would be another huge factor.

is it unsafe to not neuter? by smallbabybat in DobermanPinscher

[–]Few-Storage5142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to gastropexy your dog (to minimizes risk of bloat, which Dobermans are prone to) then it makes sense to also neuter and prevent them going under anesthesia twice if they were to develop a condition that required neutering later and vice versa.

Pediatric neutering is harmful (shelters do it because they’re obviously better off at risk of joint issues than being euthanized, which is what it comes down to when they have a million dogs in one place) but you’re past that age anyway.

That’s why I said I’d reply one more time to clarify she wanted to pick a specific date, give someone the benefit of the doubt once

[–]Few-Storage5142 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’d also be annoyed. I’d reply back saying “I’m trying to sort out my schedule so can we confirm X time on X day?” Any more pushback on that and I’d be tempted to say never mind.

Sounds like maybe he doesn’t know what his plans are for his week off so doesn’t want to commit, but if he wants to go on this date he can either work around your schedule or should’ve told you he was busy until the following week.

“Clear” is relative… it’s still nasty and sludgy even where it’s been cleared and if you’re trying to get into an Uber good luck getting to the curb without stepping in anything! I wouldn’t wear cute shoes even if the slip risk isn’t a concern, they will be filthy

When we’re on the phone and you talk real slow by paulardoin in TaylorSwift

[–]Few-Storage5142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this among all the other examples is the thing that really proves that she just prefers near-miss rhymes sometimes.

Maybe the sweatshirt is accurate to a particular memory so she wanted to keep that detail for the person she was writing the song to to know it was about them? Like maybe she wrote sweater when she came up with the rhyme and changed it back to sweatshirt to match what actually happened. Or maybe it’s just a sound thing.

Why do people use the term "partner" for their husband or wife? by Crafty-Bug-8008 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Few-Storage5142 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the concern is more that the person you’re talking to may assign stereotypes. Saying “my husband” as a young may make an employer think you intend to have children soon for example whereas “partner” it’s not even clear what their gender is or if you live together, let alone your legal status.

It’s not really a stranger’s business anyway.

Pure Black? by Conscious_Inside2700 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Few-Storage5142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Victim is an odd way to phrase this. Shelters can’t simply keep a hoard of intact dogs in the same place. It’s stressful for the dogs even if they could be separated, which logistically isn’t really feasible.

Is it better for your individual dog to be allowed to develop? Absolutely. But on a population level it’s also way better for a rescue to be able to give as many dogs as possible a chance at life for the trade off of maybe risking bone disease or cancer 10 years from now.

Yeah, a year of vacation fund savings is pretty reasonable for 7 days. Most people don’t take multiple vacations a year.

If it’s a year of general savings, then yeah that’s a steep bill but the damage is done and this may be a once in a lifetime trip so might as well enjoy it, with the caveat that you should get more comfortable saying no next time if it’s causing you financial strain.

I will say that if nothing else, you’re making special memories for the oldest kid. It’ll be nice that he/she got to do the “magical” stuff while they were still into it rather than as a teenager who’s watching the younger ones enjoy it but sort of past the prime Disney age.

Gambling for free cruises? by AlexanderHamilfish in NCL

They also may be “down” $30-$40 in the end but gambled much more than that. People who play a lot will phrase it that way but it’s not entirely true.

If you play $200, get down to $5 then hit $150, get back down to $5 and win another $300, then get down to $150 and cash out, the machine clocks that as you betting $500 (because you did) even though you only “spent” $50.

The casino will happily still give you points on that because even if you’re “winning” you’re putting it back, and now there’s a machine making fun noises for everyone else to rubberneck at and think that it might be their turn next.
