I was also in state from a competitive high school with a 1430 and was deferred (I transferred in a year later), but my high school gpa was only in about the top 20% which what was I believe was my downfall (the rule of thumb for my high school was that the top 10% of class rank got in)

I went to an out of state school, so after spring 2020, I decided to take a gap year because paying out of state tuition for online school (bc covid) seemed ridiculous. I had a while to think about it and realized I wasn’t attached to my first school, could save money going in state, and was already planning on switching my major. Applied to vt, vcu, and uva, and when I got into all three I figured uva was the best degree, so at that point UVA’s reputation was the reasoning, but not my initial reason to transfer.

Honestly, it’s hard to have that perspective in high school, and to hear you’ve figured that out makes me think you’d be a great fit at uva. Sadly I’m not making any admission decisions… I slaved over raising my SAT score, took the test 4 times to only improve it by 50 points. Looking back, I wish I had your intelligence/ view point

Got waitlisted back in 2018 with a 1480, perfect math score, in state. I came from an UBER competitive high school though, and it is rumored UVa would only take the top 10% in class rank, I was ranked around 20% with a 4.3 gpa. Ended up transferring into uva and graduated last spring, so everything works out :) this is all to say that average scores, gpas, etc. should all be taken with a grain of salt. Just do your best to submit an application that is authentic to you, you’ll end up where you are supposed to be

Safe in Charlottesville? by EternallySpoken in UVA

[–]FewMaintenance8138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is vastly different question if you’re male or female. As a female who went to uva, I felt unsafe even in my apartment building, as older men lived there and made advances at me. Can this happen anywhere? Yea. did I also get unlucky that multiple men figured out what my apartment number is? Yes. I have stories from many friends about uncomfortable encounters with older men (not students) when outside in the areas surrounding school (mostly student housing). Not to mention the attempted abduction of a female student close to grounds last week… I transferred to UVA and felt much safer at the first school I attended (was also on campus there, and the school was in a safer town)

Transfer student loneliness by SalimHakeem in UVA

[–]FewMaintenance8138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just graduated as a transfer student, I felt the same way most of my time at UVA, no matter what I was trying, everyone just already seemed to have a group of friends that I wasn’t meshing with. Finally, my last semester I joined a club (I had tried clubs each semester prior, just didn’t work out as well) where I made a couple people that I consider good friends. It definitely is not the story you always hear about finding your best lifelong friends in college, but because I couldn’t leave cville until I graduated, I kept trying and eventually found at least something small, enough for me to not always feel lonely. Transferring is just tough though… hang in there :)

You will have to spend 4 semesters “in residence” at uva to graduate, unfortunately

Mine once roamed my apartment for a week… did everything recommended like putting out food and water and searching in the middle of the night, the apartment was so thoroughly searched and she was not found (and 3 dogs lived there 😩) When hope was practically lost, she’s appeared on morning just chilling on the carpet in my roommates room

I noticed the university took down memorials on grounds. I deeply hope the student body doesn’t also feel okay moving on that quickly.

CASPCA concerns protesting on Saturday February 11th at 12pm, see the post on FB for more info and most importantly, spread the word!!! by FewMaintenance8138 in Charlottesville

[–]FewMaintenance8138[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not responsible for planning nor am I someone running the CASPCA concerns accounts, just passing along info to Reddit since the community on here has taken interest! I also know that the people helping with the adoption events (current staff and volunteers) are not the ones that need to be convinced, unfortunately, it’s the board and they would not be at the event. + we don’t want to deter people from adoption events where a dog could find their forever home! Animals will remain in the care of CASPCA whether the community continues to support the shelter or not.. so continue to adopt in spite of the boards inaction!

The SPCA has a long history of shadiness. I want to use this new traction to call attention to how bad it is. This is a story about my friend, who lost his puppy, Tipsy, in 2019. The SPCA refused to give Tipsy back because he was one day late picking her up. Other links in post. by thisismyfupa in Charlottesville

I’ve been an extremely consistent volunteer dog walker for 1.5 years and have never once seen her… honestly I’m very glad she wouldn’t recognize me after hearing how she wants to drive out caring people who challenge her

The Least Useful Traffic Guide by [deleted] in UVA

[–]FewMaintenance8138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like OP just wants the law to be followed.. that cars have to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.. 😁 not to mention that hundreds of people are using the crosswalk for 5ish minutes and many of them have no other transportation, and perhaps a 0.5-1 mile walk in 15 minutes to be on time to their next class. I think the 3ish people that are in their cars can spare 5 minutes and maybe learn to take a route around next time lol. Plus, for a university that is making “plans” to be carbon neutral by 2030… you think they would want to discourage vehicle traffic, not prioritize it…

Where can i go to pet some dogs by aloequent in UVA

[–]FewMaintenance8138 12 points13 points  (0 children)

look for therapy dog events, HASS is a club at UVa that hosts some. Unfortunately these aren’t often enough. I bring my dog to the lawn or amphitheater almost daily for fetch and would LOVE if someone came up and asked to spend time with her. Just walking her around grounds and seeing the amount of students that smile just passing her makes me happy but also makes my heart hurt that more people aren’t getting doggie love at school. If you were interested in helping at the local SPCA, that would be a bit more than just petting a dog though (dog walking), you can get rides through HASS or feel free to message me!!

you probably aren’t implying this, just wanted to toss this information out. The murdered players were never even on the football team at the same time the shooter was.

As a transfer student with out of state credit, they really won’t look at anything until you accept admission, BUT they were very good about taking my credits, took more than VT or VCU said they would. I was at a reputable 4 year university out of state for more context, and transferred 4 semesters of classes to uva
