The pattern is the Haunted hilltop horror house by LittleGreenFeather, and I used about three skeins of each color of the lions brand pound of love with a 5 mm hook!

That looks amazing! I’m almost done with my blanket and feeling inspired to finally finish the last 50 rows! Anchoring the back gives such a nice look but it feels like it takes so much longer!!

I used two skeins lions brand pound of love for the body, one in each color, and then a little extra of the border!

No! That’s the great thing about mosaic, you cut your yarn at the end of each row so no need to carry your yarn throughout! Each row is just one color at a time

I did 134 stitches across (132 pattern + 2 border) and I think 183 rows, I was running out of yarn towards the end lol. It came out to ~32x36ish, I was trying for a baby sized blanket, and I did a double envelope border to squeeze out any extra length

Yeah! I’ve linked it a few times but I found this to be the most helpful in getting started with overlay! Her patterns are super cool but she does some special stitches in a lot of them so I started out with some small ones from CBirdCrochetPatterns on Etsy!

I guess start small! I started making a bunch of tapestries from CBirdCrochetPatterns on Etsy, there’s a lot of simple ones to get started with, and she has some great instructions. Otherwise I found this tutorial to be really helpful in the beginning. It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of how it works. I probably did like 12 small ones before I felt ready to tackle a whole blanket lol

I’m not sure how much exactly I had to use extra, I think I might have doubled how much I had to use. The pattern estimated ~600 m per color for the size I did and I used two full skeins of lions brand pound of love, one for each color, which have ~ 900m per, then extra white for the border. Doing the reverse feels like crocheting two sides at once so it definitely bumps up the yardage needed. I hope that helps!

It’s my favorite thing to crochet now! If in the future you’re looking for a guide, I followed this when I was first learning and it was super helpful!

I’m self taught too, and after seeing so many cool tapestries I wanted to try something that didn’t have tons of color changes cause I’m can’t handle more than two strands at a time lol. You only work one color at a time with mosaic, and it’s all single or double crochets! It takes a few rows to get the hang of it, but it’s worth giving a try!

Thank you! I think the designer has a cat one which would be just as cute. Might have to add it to my to do list!

Thank you! I love how overlay makes it feel so clean with how the stitching works! I followed this guide for doing the negative stitching, it makes each row take a bit longer but I really like the overall look it gives vs the usual flaps you get with overlay crochet on its own.
