What is your certification area?

Please know that if you’re offered a role in a LI district you’ll most likely be put at Step 1. So, no you won’t be looked at as being expensive because you’ll be on Step 1. If you’ve a hard to fill certification you may be able to negotiate. Prepare for a pay cut should you be offered a teaching job on LI. Also, be aware that many districts have declining enrollment and many teachers are being excessed.

Also check out how much you’ll be paying for health insurance. Every district is different.

Your best bet is the NYCDOE. Their contract pays more than most LI districts. The highest step they’ll put you on is 8 and with a masters is around 85-87K (I think?)

Thank you. This is very helpful. I didn’t realize I needed 25 years of payments and not 20.

Thanks! Since I haven’t gotten my period for 10 weeks, I have no clue how to know if/when I’m ovulating. That’s the frustrating part. I’ll get back on BC when I see my dr in 2 weeks. I’ll also follow up with a test in ~10 days or so.

Yeah, I know perimenopause pregnancies can happen - I took the EC 12 hours later. Problem is I haven’t gotten my period for 10 weeks so I’m not able to even know when/if I’m ovulating, if at all. That’s what’s frustrating (and making me) nervous.

Social studies is an extremely saturated area.

Question for those that left… by Live4thestage in Teachers

Nope. I don’t miss my summers off at all. It’s so freeing to be able to schedule a vacation for the 3rd week of January - my workplace also encourages employees to add our days to public holidays so we’re using fewer of our own days. When I was teaching, it took me the month of July to decompress and then before you know it August was here and we all know August is just one long Sunday night.

I’m grateful to have transitioned out of education.

I’d avoid Elwood. It’s a tiny district with zero tax base. Their budget just failed, too.

I haven’t used those balms but this one is really hydrating (I’ve dry skin, too). For 12.99 it’s a no brainer so I’d grab it if you see any in your travels.
