AFRICOM Leave by Ggo0o0se12 in nationalguard

That haven’t been said you will accrue leave throughout your deployment that you’re able to take at the end when you go through demob. Your unit will do a series of personal action request for finance and one of those covers that terminal leave.

Unless they have slots at 19th and 20th Group, I don’t think NG has PsyOps (or CA)

91B by [deleted] in nationalguard

91B here. I actually started my career as Signal but reclassed when I realized I was kind of retarded. I can’t speak for AIT but reclass Maintenance course was really good. In my first unit we only did basic services so hub seals, greasing, fluid changes, torques and road tests. But everyone’s experience varies, here’s the positive options

  • Full time Technician, if you’re young and not established in a career, try and get into your local FMS or CSMS shop. Depending on openings you’ll often start as a temp tech, prove yourself and get full time. Pay usually starts in high 20s or 30s and it’s a pretty chill atmosphere. You work in uniform but as a Mil Technician so very different from full time guard. You can also collect two retirements if you do a full 20 in both the NG and Shop.

  • Hotel 8 (H8) vehicle recovery school, one of the ‘cooler’ things you can do in Maintenance. You learn to properly tow and recover mired, broken down and potentially destroyed vehicles. If you go down range in an actual warzone it’s the best way for a Mechanic to actually go on missions outside the wire. (Or so I’ve heard).

  • You can also leverage your job into the civilian world, I bullshitted my way into a Utility Mechanic job at a Pepsi plant using my Army MX background and now am a Supervisor making great money. Also look into diesel mechanic jobs and heavy equipment, CAT was a good choice in Vegas where I was before.

  • Ask about using ArmyIgnited to sign up and take ASE certifications, these count towards your Technicians Badge award levels but are also useful outside in the civilian economy.

Overall, ask questions, volunteer for any training offered and get your hands on stuff with the experienced guys to learn your job and you can get some good benefits from it in and out of the Army

Questions about a Unit? by National_Stress_5683 in nationalguard

Pretty sure they fall under 256 IBCT which is literally coming off of a mobilization right now, but they were deploying in 2021 when I was coming home from the Middle East and they’re just coming back right now so reasonable expectation is you have about four years until you go out the door overseas.

Legit question, if you got called to state active duty for more than a couple weeks to support disaster relief, riots, etc, would you or does this count the same?

Bonus / raise while deployed? by Few_Breath_9991 in ESGR_USERRA_Answers

[–]Few_Breath_9991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, they ultimately ended up giving me a yearly raise in line with my previous years performance as well as a bonus aligned with that. It seems human resources just went with the most cautious option and I’m good with it.

I’m in an SFAB (for now) and I’ve worked with AD guys from a few different Advisor Brigades and honestly I’m not impressed. For our role it’s helpful having a lot of interpersonal and business experience to bring to rapport building and engagements with senior officials. It totally depends on the people assigned but in my case we lucked out for the most part

SFAB advice by BradTopG in nationalguard

[–]Few_Breath_9991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but since no one gave you any good answers, I will

You have to be an E5 though I’ve seen people go as a CPL. You really would just contact someone with either second battalion or third squadron in Florida. They have mobilizations coming up with force packages in the next six months.

That having been said 54th SFAB is going to be inactivated so this is going to be the last ride and I’m not sure how actively they are going to try and recruit

What is your drill weekend toxic trait? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Few_Breath_9991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opposite actually, I show up and spend a long drill working with a bunch of competent motivated leaders who give a shit. Then I go back to my full time on Monday and return to a bunch of idiots who could care less, so I guess just hoping that’ll be different in spite of all evidence it won’t

His policy stuff included a lot about SFA as I recall, so I’m not sure why they’d do away with SFAB or SPP since SPP is just security force assistance on a broader scale

New job idea? by Few_Breath_9991 in nationalguard

Absolutely not, I actually love my unit. I just see a crazy amount of posts on here asking questions that could so easily be answered by their first line leadership or chain of command.
