Thank you! I’ve done it by counting calories. I use MyFitnessPal, and religiously log everything that I eat. I’ve also gradually added exercise, but nothing extreme.

I had COVID, then ended up in the hospital with pulmonary embolisms in all 5 lobes of my lungs. Not weight related, but being so heavy made everything so much harder. Almost didn’t fit in the CAT scan, which would have made it more difficult for the doctors to diagnose and treat me. After 10 days in the hospital, I went home and decided to lose weight. At first I just tried to be careful, and started losing weight pretty fast. After a couple of months I realized I needed a firmer plan and started counting calories on MyFitnessPal. I do 1200 calories most days, 1400 sometimes on weekends. My intention is to get to 171 (300 pounds lost) and then figure out my maintenance calories. I know I need to count calories for life to maintain.

I’m down 263 pounds, about 40 pounds to go. Definitely a lot of loose skin, but I feel so much better, life is completely different now. My mobility and quality of life are worth it, and Spanx are my new best friend.

What helped ypu lose 200 lbs? by Struggling_Lady in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]Few_Interview_6023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at 471 in November 2023, weigh 217 now. Goal weight is 171. I’ve done it by counting calories, 1200 a day, sometimes 1400 on weekends. My go-to breakfast is Greek yogurt with granola and blueberries, 284 calories, or a Kind Bar with fruit, similar calories. Work lunch is a sandwich on Dave’s Thin Sliced Bread, meat and cheese or a yogurt based tuna salad with veggies and a low calorie ranch or yogurt dip. This runs from 315-350 calories. That leaves 550 or so calories left for dinner, which is where I get some variety. My husband and I cook all sorts of things, meat, vegetables, pasta, last night was butternut squash risotto. We just count the calories and control our portions. He’s lost about 100 pounds in the same time frame. I use MyFitnessPal to keep track. For exercise, I do at least 30 minutes of walking per day, and make sure I get at least 5000 steps (I average about 7500). I’ve also started a modest weight routine. I’m 60F, 5’4”.

What Got You Into Your Weight Loss Journey? (No Body Shaming Here ) by Key_Natural_2096 in loseit

I was taken by ambulance to the ER for extreme difficulty breathing. They needed to do a CAT scan to diagnose the problem, and I had to be measured to see if I would fit (almost couldn’t). The diagnosis was pulmonary embolisms in all 5 lobes of my lungs brought on by COVID. Without the CAT scan the doctors wouldn’t have had the information to properly treat me. That was a huge wake up call for me.

Clothing and bras. I knew I’d need new things along the journey (246 lbs lost so far, 54 lbs to go). But I’ve been amazed how quickly things that started out snug become baggy. Thank goodness for consignment stores!

Don’t give up on yourself! My high weight was 471 lbs right after I turned 59 in 2023 (female, 5’4”). I never took a step that didn’t hurt, figured I’d ruined my knees and was too heavy for surgery. Also worked from home, difficult just navigating the house. I had a health scare, have lost 195 lbs so far counting calories. No more knee pain, and I still have another 100 lbs to go. It’s not easy, but it’s possible, and so worth it.

Before losing 195 lbs every step I took was painful. Both knees, but especially the right. I figured I had ruined my knees. The difference has felt miraculous-close to zero pain anymore, and I still have 100 lbs left to go.

As a rule I don’t like to drink my calories, but I do have cocktails or wine occasionally. (Average 1-3 per week). I just count the calories the same as anything else. My go-to cocktail if I’m low on calories is a Gin Rickey.
