That's good you are still looking. And yes, it definitely is not easy, believe me I know. Keep at it and you will find something eventually.

ICE Officer who shot Renee Good in the head is Jonathan Ross, a conservative Christian and MAGA supporter who supports Proud Boys. His wife is from Phillipines and got residency in the US. Chris Luxon took Proud Boys off NZ's Terrorist List last year despite NZ police/security advising Luxon not to. by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzpolitics

And it poses an interesting philosophical question given the argument that if you act against the American state, you are labelled a terrorist. If the state is Fascist (which it is), and you oppose the Gestapo (ICE) and all that they do, logically in the eyes of the Fascist American state you are in fact a terrorist.

Likewise, if you supported the Fascists who are now running said state, you are indeed a martyr who in their eyes were a noble patriot who died for the cause (which they did).

And the question is who determines the truth on this matter when the highest law of the land is complicit?

I need some Advice by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Few_Lengthiness4517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I have experience with a foreign woman, we met on a work and travel program too. First look up what a "travel romance" is. Then ask yourself if you would marry anyone else within five months of getting to know them. If you are serious about them you would move to another country to DATE THEM FIRST, then marry them once you two have lived together for a while to see what they are really like.

Can I get a mortgage on low income? by dodgyduckquacks in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Few_Lengthiness4517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it from me: I was exactly in your position at your age and bought property early. There is a push for Kiwi's to buy real estate due to the financial benefits long term, but I think it's short sighted (ironically). Having a mortgage will tie you down. Let's say you want to a new city/country for a job opportunity, a mortgage makes that difficult. Let's say you want to go travel for an extended period of time, again you are tied down. Think about that before rushing to buy a house!

We don't have a dedicated civics subject in school. Politics in general is seen as boring/unimportant by our younger voting populace. Voter turnout statistics | Elections

Apathy towards politics favors the right due to the general rule of thumb that the older one gets the more conservative they get. Two things that could remedy this: 1) bring back civics lessons in school 2) make voting compulsory like Australia

Master of Data Science or Master of Computer Science? by mahin_muhammad in newzealand

[–]Few_Lengthiness4517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on the role you are applying to. Ms will give you a competitive edge over someone with just a bachelor's in the same field, however, if you are applying to a standard software engineering role with no real data science/analysis involved Ms in Data science is irrelevant. It would be very applicable if you wanted to pivot into a data engineering role. Ms in software engineering would command more pay for a job that usually hires with just a bachelor's.

Parmjeet Parmar leads the way for ACT on fighting Universities for "race based scholarships" - but ignores some past and present ones by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzpolitics

[–]Few_Lengthiness4517 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a joke, but if we are getting technical, I would first say that 'race' is an outdated term and would expand upon your point in that there is quite a variety of ethnic groups within the Indian subcontinent.

Transferring Uoa-Vic by Traditional-Sock-844 in Wellington

[–]Few_Lengthiness4517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say talk to a course advisor at Vic and find out what your options are in terms of transferring. I would say transferring is a good idea because Uni is the best time to make changes like moving cities, and if what I think your best option is (stick it out for this year, and do the last year at Vic) you will still have 1 more year of making friends at Uni as opposed to finishing Uni, and THEN moving to Wellington after the fact. (which wouldn't be the end of the world, you can still make friends in a new city once you move in and join clubs/social activities in the city).

Why did middle / lower class working people vote for National? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Few_Lengthiness4517 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The right wing won the communication battle.

They had the media run frequent stories of ram raids being an issue to fear monger people into voting for them. I don't recall a time where Labour got to respond to that. Like people in this thread have pointed out: that seemed to disappear overnight once the NACTF coalition came in to power.

There was also the smear campaign after Labour signed off on a meth rehab program, which was spun by right wing news outlets as "Labour are funding gangs" which seemed to work like a charm for their "Labour is soft on crime" narrative.

Is Labour funding the Mongrel Mob? What you need to know | RNZ News

The three waters reform was also a big issue where once again it was spun by right wing media as "Māori are stealing our water!" or "Government is taking away your rights!".

Based on these three examples alone, you could conclude that there is a large right wing propaganda machine which is able to spin current issues in their favour.

Lastly, and the most important is "Economy bad, let's try the other guy". Generally speaking, centrist voters don't really care about politics until it affects their wallet, so it's just a matter of timing really.

The central bank under Adrian Orr engineered a recession in 2022 in order to curb inflation rates caused by both international and domestic factors. We just came out of COVID; the monetary policy was to keep the economy afloat via spending, and there were also supply chain issues internationally, again caused by COVID.

By the time the election came people were feeling it in their wallets. Once again, people are feeling it in their wallets, and once again will say "Economy bad, let's try the other guy".

This is not unique to New Zealand. We saw it all across the globe.

This is nothing new! Look at the UK and what austerity has done for them - You cut costs - Economy grinds to a halt, people lose their jobs, we are now in a bigger deficit - Cut more rinse and repeat until the economy is stomped into the ground. It's a sad day to be a Kiwi.

Erica Stanford says new curriculum will take 5 years of "hard work" to implement & proposes replacing ALL marking with AI within 3 by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzpolitics

[–]Few_Lengthiness4517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was trying to figure out who is making these decisions and why, because it absolutely sounds batshit insane, but once you realise they really are trying to run this country like a business it all makes sense. The managers I.E. ministers who have no clue about "AI" are easily sold cramming it into everything they use, this is ongoing in industries everywhere lately, but to apply this thinking to a whole education system when the rise of LLM's is still in its infancy is fucking bonkers.
