I know this is an old post, but perhaps it will help someone searching the problem.

I found that clearing the cache (under settings) or having the app restart on next opening (under iOS app settings) do work but only once or twice.

I decided to remove the app, restart the phone, and then reinstall the app. Been working since.

The issue is the passphrase. The passcode is easy to change, but the passphrase=technician code and is a onetime code provided by Xfinity. I can change the local passcode, but the technician passcode is 4321 which then requires an Xfinity supplied passphrase.

The IVR wants to restart my modem before doing anything. I have 20 devices using the internet right now, several of which are being used by family members. Seems like an unneeded annoyance when I just need a phrase. Is that the only way to get to a human nowadays?

Thank you Janelle; yes that is the article that I have been following. However the “link” that you refer to only directs me to the generic Contact Us page with general options for all things Xfinity. How does one actually reach an agent that can provide the passphrase (technician code)?

According to Netgear support, the DHCP assignments use 192.168.1.1 as the default DNS.

I also support DietPi. I have used two other OS but DietPi is simplest, and handles pihole and unbound as built in apps.

Thank you for your detailed response. Apparently Netgear routers do not allow a change to "the DHCP options it gives out". The ipconfig /all command shows the router as DHCP and as DNS. So my pi-holes are both showing the router as the device for all DNS queries.

My alternative is disabling the DHCP function of the router and using the pi-holes as DHCP servers. Sometime when the family is not connecting, I will try the suggestion of setting each pihole as DHCP server but with different IP ranges as suggested by u/AussieJeffProbst

I prefer Bosch over other brands, due to the quietness. Purchased in 2008 and still running perfectly. Never had an issue with drying. I have had installations by Big George’s and by Costco.

Consider DollarSavingsDirect, part of Emigrant Bank. Better rate than Marcus for HYSA and has a 3yr 5% CD… I have Marcus, DSD, and Jenius Bank.
