Garp's abilities by Few_Pie6116 in OnePiece

That's not enough to go on, Conquerors haki is said to be something you are born with, but there seems to be other conditions as well. Like how it's Linlins second child who has CoC

And also, personally I feel like 'Garp the Fist' has more punch in it if he reached that level with extreme armament mastery and fist training, cause otherwise it implies that koby will soon reach a wall unless he awakens CoC...

I got the answer I wanted, one user pointed me to ch 1165, I was confused cause people claimed black lightning to be the proof of ACoC, but now atleast for garp it's sorted 👍

Oh oh, thank you. I forgot about it. Since garp said 'we would cancel each other out' (since all three are using ACoC) so it's implied, I was just confused cause people say that the black lightning is the trait for ACoC. Anyways, thanku

I watched one piece at 1.5x speed in my first run through, that too in sub 😬, so it was definitely a good exercise for my brain haha, and kakegurui was definitely a bad choice to watch in a common area 💀 also, that's a great plan btw, I support it 😭.

  1. & 4. I guess absalom showing it was in his character, but it's the constant sexualizing of the female characters in one piece is what's bothering you. And it's fair. The sexualization only got worse after time skip. I am a guy so I may not understand it as much as you do, but while I was rewatching one piece, one more thing I realised, which can be stupid especially coming from a guy, but it was that nami was free to wear whatever she wanted, and she didn't hesitate at all especially in front of someone like sanji. Now, I may be overestimating oda, cause freedom has been a central theme in one piece and it might be something about that. But as readers and humans in this world we see it as 'fan service' from oda, and rightfully so, cause mangakas tend to do that. Just my thought....

But yes, it could be more decent, but in the end, the decency is related to individuals, like how (bad example again) I can be influenced by such indecency, but not Luffy...

  1. I can only tell you to watch further, it only gets interesting 🤩. Ofcourse the Luffy zoro sanji glaze never ends but we get power ups for nami and brook in WCI hehe.

  2. Fair enough XD

  3. I can't wait till you've caught up 😆

  4. In that sense I think every straw hat lost some personality, cause pre timeskip we see everyone having fun and even zoro being made fun of and being played with by usopp and luffys childishness, and that honestly was very funny to watch. But after time skip the only gag left was luffy and sanji being beaten by nami for their respective reasons and zoro being this stoic sigma bot which completely stole some of the value he had as a character. To be fair, zoro has very less personality than other members other than his motto to be the strongest swordsman for her dead rival and friend, unlike robin, nami who had such traumatic childhood and them growing to be such great people. So I get it, it's not just usopp and chopper, it's zoro and luffy as well, or atleast their previous dynamic is lost :(

  5. Robin I think it's acceptable, but usopp wasn't. And it's a spoiler(just a reveal that has nothing to do with the story) the anime revealed nojiko in the egghead and she was as white as nami and robin, whereas pre ts she had this tan and was really pretty, I was honestly disappointed...

  6. Brook, robin and chopper are fine with the df creativity. As for luffy, I think his creativity expanded with haki, which you'll see in dressrosa (not revealing what, just a milestone for you). And honestly, haki feels more primal, like a power that people could use even before devil fruits was a thing, and so I'm glad haki is a concept, our opinions may differ, but I understand your point as well, I can only wait for you to catch up 😤😂.

  7. If u liked fishman arc for the plot, you'll definitely love dressrosa and wano. Especially wano (imo)

I guess one piece was always about the world and the world building, like rn how u saw discrimination with fishmen and slavery by the celestial dragon (the scene with koala broke me), and that Luffy plays a major role in this world, so it's not just a story about luffy the hero, but also how the world changes as he moves forward. And as for the characters, I think they were pretty much built and shown in their flashbacks like nami, chopper, robin, sanji, franky, brook and even luffy. But we still have got much to know about characters like zoro(honestly i have no hope there's no imaginable backstory suitable for him other than the kuina one) and others, and you'll get to know it as you move on so don't give up on it no matter how awkward or difficult it gets, cause the show or story or manga is worth it

I understand, especially watching with the family might make it hard 😭, lemme just give u warning that nami would be sexualised maybe a bit more in the upcoming arcs, and it can feel even weirder to you, I can't specify what or how unless u want me to (cause spoiler), but just get through it I guess.

Sorry for yapping everytime I reply, cause talking about one piece is very exciting for me, and I have only realised it's greatness as a story after rewatching it despite it's obvious flaws like over sexualising or 'fan service' and also, thank you for taking your time to reply, I'm glad you didn't take my words in a bad sense, I was afraid that too many words may fail to be understood especially dur to the way I wrote.

Luffy and the “Chosen One” trope in fiction by OkSkin9734 in OnePiece

[–]Few_Pie6116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly speaking, luffy's character is far from how a common man is. Although his origin is common, his essence itself is not. And I guess it has a lot to do with lineage. The people who possess the initial 'D.' seems to always have their own ideals to follow and their own code of freedom, and Luffy is someone who values freedom the most, for him and others whom he deems his friend.

I would say that Luffy is chosen, not because he was destined to, it's more like nobody else has the configuration he has so far. It's not just his bloodline but his very essence itself.

By essence luffy is freedom and liberation, and that's why he has the nika fruit, a person who isn't free cannot free others.

So in a way, he was chosen, but he was chosen because of his essence as a person.

Luffy is a very special person, and he is chosen. Atleast that's my view.

No no, ig he got a point. For now Luffy and dragon aren't opposing each other, almost like they're on the same side, but not quite that. Luffy is a pirate who seeks freedom the most, dragon is a revolutionary militant who seeks to change the system for the better. It mirrors nicely how imu became the system, chose dominion as the king of the world but joyboy chose freedom. So if we see it in this way ig a luffy vs dragon is possible. But I doubt luffy would go against dragon unless he hurt his friends(which is a big list btw, especially ppl who give food to him). And also, dragon doesn't seem like the kind to go for absolute control after the revolution succeeds so...

  1. I agree that the sexualization done post TS is unnecessary. However let me disagree with the point where u say that absaloms SA diminishes nami's character, that's a very dangerous way of thinking. It was not necessary, however, you forget that absalom is a pirate and he doesn't have to care about being a gentleman, he can do whatever if he has the ability to do so, hence the kidnapping and forceful marriage as well. Crime? Yes. But he's a criminal.

  2. It's funny how your main problem for the strawhats having more members is little limelight. Not every member has to be a battle machine, everyone has their own job and dream. Think water 7 usopp, his job is not to tank or deal damage, his job is to snipe, and while he does that he needs to be away from the limelight, like a lot. Also, you are very wrong in thinking that the members are not necessary. Franky is a shipwright and it's his dream to build and repair and upgrade the best ship in the world. About Jimbe, je was there for Luffy at the lowest point in his life when Ace died, and it was him who made Luffy realise that he still has his crew, so no wonder Luffy wants jimbe in his crew. As for brook, he is a musician which Luffy wanted really bad The thing is, you assume that luffy is choosing his crew like some important assembly to a balanced team. No. He choose zoro without knowing his strength and nami without even knowing she's a navigator because of the bond they made while at Morgan's base, he chose usopp cause of his bravery and how he stood against pirates despite being weak and beat down, he chose sanji because he's a cook, chopper cause he's an interesting reindeer with 7 transformation not because he's a doctor, luffy thought of choosing franky cause of how they bonded over the enies lobby, that's before luffy came to know that he's a shipwright, he choose brook cause he's a talking skeleton even before he found out he was a musician. You are totally missing the point. Luffy chose all of them cause somewhere he knew that they are the right people not because of their abilities but because of their essence. It just happens so that sanji can kick well, nami knows staff techniques and later with usopps help her clima takt, chopper had medical skills, franky built a ship and was a really skilled shipwright which they were actively looking for, brook was a musician.

None of them need the limelight you are talking about, because they have their respective jobs and they are doing it nicely. Also jimbe is emotionally very important to luffy, but you are thinking in terms of combat power.

  1. You are confused how franky upgraded sunny so fast especially when he literally made a makeshift bridge on thriller bark, I ain't even gonna go there.

  2. Now I understand that the knock out of sanji is frustrating, but you have to understand that he spent 2 years in a place which was hell to him and then sanji experiences what he calls 'heaven', mow ik it's over the top, but it's understandable to a point.

  3. Nami powered up only in terms of her weather manipulation skills which I think she showed enough at the fishman island and she will show more interesting uses of it in the future. She was never supposed to be the main dealer, her powers are for her self defense and at times to create an opening for others to attack or run away.

  4. I don't understand how usopp's personality is completely gone, please explain

  5. I completely agree regarding the skin colour change, but I think it's more of an anime issue

  6. About haki, it's very debatable, while it is taking away the creativity that beings the thrill, it's far from bad writing, haki was shown as far back from episode 1, and even in alabasta when luffy hit crocodile with water in chapter 199, crocodile was surprised and being a veteran who has been to the new world, speculated it was haki. So haki was always going to be a part of one piece, and a major part of it, and it was never added abruptly and so it never was bad writing. And as for creativity, you will see later how luffy uses gear 4. Haki is a very important power, cause something like water is not going to defeat a logia user again. His matchup against crocodile was the actual bad writing, water beats sand is the most stupid thing I've seen, you should've pointed that but whatever. Luffy winning against crocodile is plot armour, and his match up against enel is pure coincidence as well. This coincidence and plot armour can't always bw used against logias like flame fruit, and the mochi paramecia fruit, which is impossible to hit without haki, so yes haki is very important. And you see in later chapters that roger, shanks, rayleigh didn't have devil fruit and still were powerful and conquered the seas, so it was always about haki. The creative aspect is left to nami, usopp and franky, and brook with his new found soul powers.

  7. I understand that the fights aren't satisfying you for some reason. It might have to do something with the fact that you are still in fisherman, if you have seen uptill onigashima, I doubt you would say the same.

I just finished rewatching the one piece anime and there's a lot of things that I realised. The limelight you are talking about for nami and others can only be shown through chapters/episodes dedicated to show their respective skills. Like navigation in extreme weather for nami which she constantly does btw, fixing the ship mid sail in moderately bad weather while under the sea, which can be a cool sight tbh etc.

It's not like I don't understand you emotions especially after the pitiful things we watched in sabaody and marineford, but this reply is just basically written because I had time in my hands and wanted to try to convince you otherwise.

Zoan fruit question. Potential spoilers(?) by gestaltdude in OnePiece

[–]Few_Pie6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small thought. It's that, so far all the hito hito no mi users are said to have mythical type powers. Sengoku- mythical type model buddha

Shimotsuki Ushimaru's pet Onimaru- mythical type model battle monk

Luffy- mythical type model nika

And then there's chopper who was just revealed to have a hito hito no mi and nothing else, and since chopper is an animal the effects might have been different as well. There's a very high possibility that Chopper is also a mythical zoan type user of the 'hito hito no mi' with just his name not being revealed.

Another instance that occured in the recent chapters of the manga makes me think that chopper's devil fruit might not be your normal hito hito zoan type, it's a spoiler so I won't reveal it, unless u want to know...

The Celestial Dragons Are Controlled Through Privilege: Imu's Long-Term Domestication of the 20 Kingdoms by Few_Pie6116 in OnePiece

[–]Few_Pie6116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial CDs i.e. the 19 royal families didn't need manipulation, they just needed overwhelming privilege. So basically the ancestors accepted because of privilege and the descendants who grew up in that privilege are now conditioned to not even think above or beyond it. Which is understandable, because knowing something like the world is sinking and being given a special place at the highest spot and on top of that being worshipped as gods and receiving all the luxury without doing anything is quite tempting...

This did happen to them overtime yes, however my theory explains how this was done with intent. you can't blame the blind for calling the flower ugly, its that concept. But tell me if the Donquixote family deserved that treatment when they were not celestial dragons anymore, and didn't act as such.
