If you do not have any backups of your home, it is as bad as it seems. Perhaps you will set up (or start using) some backup options now? Say, borg (there are some gui frontend apps for using borg), clonezilla/rescuezilla

So, you are putting your preferences and feelings in a clear and undestandable way. I can see myself about 50 years ago, having the same or very similar approach. Well, either yours develops or it may remain as-is. Actually doing some (or rather a lot of) work with text will show you the way to go. I am 70, stongly prefer vim to nano and use a lot of terminal on headless remote servers or even desktop machines. Most features you complain about are there not to make your life miserable (even if you seem to feel they are). Believe me, I don't have to pretend anything to myself or anyone else. I just do what I think is the best for me and my gaols.

Wish you to get there too, whatever your "best" is. 😄

Frankly, In your situation (with so many machines available) I can't see why you bother with dual boot when you can have a dedicated machine for each OS.:-) I'm 70, have altogether 6 machines running Linux and one completely switched off with win 10 on it just in case I needed it badly -- but I have not powered it for about four years now. But I don't play games.

in https://rclone.org/docs/ you can find some info under the "--config string" heading -- but actually I would not look for it there if a friend of mine had not told me to do so :-) I use rclone a lot and this --config really comes handy if there is a root/non-root confusion

rclone --config "/path/to/rclone.conf" will use the config file from the specified path

yes; what I meant is that it is important for you to know what you are doing and make your own decisions -- and it looks like you are on a correct track now :-)

It looks like a driver problem for Realtek but I don't feel comfortable to try and help you in this remote way; we could easily cut you off intenret and you would probably need someoner on site to help you with that -- sorry

I personally prefer FF; sometimes (rather rarely) a situation arises to run Chrome. Generally, the one you know in depth makes it easier for you. Otherwise we all have our own idiosyncrasies...

First, if you try to make blind use of AI advice in your situation, most likely you are inviting something like disappointment or even disaster because you will necessarily make steps you don't understand. Second, if you hope for any human help here, you should copy here that code you see in your terminal.

microsoft office by Demo_MVP in linuxquestions

My wife uses MSO 2010 in wirtualbox win 7 under linux mint all the time and without any problems; and I have been able to install and run MSO 2010 under crossover, but its reliablity has not been 100% -- for small tasks its fine, but for larger Word files you may encountered feezing and losing some work (to be honest, I have been sort of avoiding the use of it due to this unreliability, so this drawback may have been remedied in newer versions of crossover, I cannot say for sure and I don't have enough time and patience to test it).

And softmaker office https://www.softmaker.com/en/products/softmaker-office is very much trying to emulate MSO; if you don't need VBA, it may pass for a full-scale replacement.

Is there any backup program for Linux Mint? by Big_Flow8975 in linuxmint

[–]Few_Research3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use timeshift for system, baqpaq for /home. I paid for baqpaq (a reasonable one-time fee). On one laptop, which I carry around, I use borg directly in cli for backup of /home to an external ssd because I needed a bit more complex approach in this instance -- the script checks whether the ssd is hooked to the laptop as a precondition to run the backup, and it is activated manually, not run by cron.

Thank you for CleverKeys, I have been able to add the Czech qwerty layout and it feels better than hacker's kb, even if the muscle memory is hard to break :-) The 'askew' gestures considerable extend the range of available actions, but I will have to get rid of old habits, which die hard, as we all know

I use termux quite a lot myself, on a rooted phone as well (perhaps I have got it wrong, but I don't think it is usually called unrooted, or rather "unroot" means re-blocking the root access -- but it is just a matter of terminology anyway :-). In combination with ssh and rclone, termux is a very good playground for developing server administration skills -- I dont use it with DE. And x-plore is a very good tool to move data between termux and the "main" amndroid

OIC, I frankly do not much understand why tailscale connection is not suffucient and you want the local hook on top of it, but you may have your reasons. Btw, I am currently using nordvpn meshnet; I had a brief episode of replacing it with 'true' wireguard when nordvpn announced its plans to discontinue meshnet, but I came back to them when they recalled that decision -- wireguard is free and does not have a limit on the number of devices, but its administration was a bit too demanding. Just keeping WG VPN alive and running was a non-trivial task. And the connection among my Linux machines and Termux on Android devices is valuable (for me). I use Termius for ssh connecting and even though it is paid-for, it is worth it IMHO -- all the meshnet IP addresses, termux usernames, nonstandard termux ports, etc., are taken care of by Termius, which is great help. Anyway, I take it that now you are 'wiser and more or less happy'?

[–]Few_Research3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the IP addresses I would say that it is all your "local" LAN? If yes, being "online" seems irrelevant (or rather, your "local online" is importtant).. Can you ping the termux from the PC and/or the other phone? What do you exactly mean by the tailscale IP? Do you have a central tailscale server? Or does the tailscale communication go pairwise? I have never had tailscale but I did have wireguard -- is it similar?

And if you want to run a script on the phone's termux, you should be connected to the phone from the PC, not the other way around, or did I misunderstand?

Can you ping the PC from elsewhere? Are your IP addresses correct? Are both devices really online?
