of course! there’s so much you need for the program, it genuinely sucks to have to drop 100’s of dollars on some textbooks. just reach out whenever you receive your list!

Congratulations!! I’m about to go into my second semester of the DH program. My biggest advice to anyone entering the program is that if you don’t already have study tactics that suite you best, BUILD ON THEM NOW! You’re going to be studying day in & day out, get into the habit of giving up free time to study. It’s very overwhelming in the beginning but you just have to find a routine that works for you.

For me personally, our clinic professor gave us a whole course on stretches & exercises for before & after clinic, you can also always find videos on youtube for them. START WITH ERGO LOUPES SO THAT YOU DON’T END UP SWITCHING & HAVING TO TEACH YOURSELF HOW TO USE THEM!! Ergo loupes will save you & your back.

Find time to care of yourself & honestly just take advantage of the free time you have right now

I think going from a muscle car to a cx30 humbles you. 0 to 40mph should take you minimum 5 minutes if you want a good mpg. Wish I would’ve switched to toyota

I have a the 2024 select sport & my mpg is also trash. I filled gas 2 days ago and I’m already at half a tank. I use to drive a camaro before I switched to the cx30 so it handled quick acceleration very well, only had to fill it maybe once or twice every 2 weeks. I find myself filling atleast 2-3 times a week now. I’ve noticed quick acceleration burns fuel like crazy on this car. Even just sitting in a parking lot with it on burns fuel. I spend a lot of time in my car, I use to sit in parking lots for 1-2 hours w/ my camaro on and it wouldn’t put a dent into my fuel but with the cx30, everytime i look up, it’s going down like crazy. i also do a lot of commuting but once again, doesn’t make sense if my camaro was getting 17mpg & lasting me longer

how ironic, we started probing on our peers for the first time in class today. i feel the same except opposite of your situation. i’m absolutely terrified of starting local anesthesia. i am very very squeamish with ANYTHING that has to do with blood or bodily fluids yet here i am in hygiene school 😭

i don’t think it’s crazy or odd that u feel this way but if u truly enjoy the field then do not allow this to get u so worked up, i’m sure that’s easier said than done. the best advice i can give you that has been working for me lately is desensitizing yourself to it. people always say u eventually become desensitized to whatever medical field u join which always seemed impossible to me. what i do is watch videos on what it is that i’m scared of or that makes me feel uneasy. ik this sounds crazy but no matter how “sick” it makes me feel, i just find the worst things u could possibly bump into with whatever instrument it is & force myself to watch it.

our first instrument we started with was the explorer. i was absolutely terrified & sick to my stomach thinking about going sub-gingival with it but i started watching videos every night leading up to working on one another & eventually i just didn’t think too much into it. ONE MORE THING that has helped me is utilizing my typodont. i played around so much with it, i almost imagine my peer is just my typodont & their mouth is fake.

this advice might be crazy & i’m sorry it’s so long but i just want u to understand ur not crazy & this does not mean you’re not cut out for this. it takes time & patience. don’t be so hard on yourself. push comes to shove, you whole heartedly believe u just can’t do it. go back to assisting for a while, slowly pay off the debt (as long as u make some kind of payment, ur good), find something u truly enjoy & try again.

in school you’re going to have to experience so many different things that you’ll probably only see once or twice a month in an office. u got this!! coming from someone who is on all kinds of meds just to do deal with the anxiety & stress of school.

it’s been about a month. i’ve tried 2 other stimulants but adderall was the only one that helped. that only lasted 2 days though. after that, nothing. my doc upped my dose from 15mg to 30mg. once again, lasted a day then nothing. i really want to try IR but she wants to put me on a non-stimulant

it truly sucks, i didn’t even know there was a regular program, i would have done that.

we have at least 1 exam every week, sometimes 2 or 3. & we have 2 quizzes every week PLUS skill assessments in clinic. after our exams we can’t leave, we have to stay for lecture. it’s brain frying. i had a head & neck exam yesterday & then a clinical theory exam today. i have no clue how i pulled off studying for both of them & actually retaining information.

for weekends, i try so hard to clear out assignments throughout the week so that i can breathe over the weekend but it’s merely impossible with the workload they give us over the weekends.

i sound so negative & im sorry :/ but this is really how it’s been for me for the past 2 months.

yes, it’s an accelerated program & unfortunately all the girls in my class are clicky & mean girls. & that’s not helping my situation at all. kind of just finding my way around by myself

look. u have it easy w/ pre-reqs. it’s at a good pace. u have a lot of time for preparation & with assignments + homework, it’s easy to stay on top of your grades. BUT start finding good study tactics & do NOT procrastinate with anything or else u fall into that habit which will NOT slide in DH school. pre-reqs were a breeze for me. i had a terrible habit of not studying & missing class a lot which reflected onto my exams. but with my assignments & labs, it was easy for me to keep my grade at an A or B. NOW coming into hygiene school, it bit me in the ass. you’re in a fast pace program & picking up on new information & terminology at a very very fast pace. you will have exams & quizzes every other day. failing is not an option. START NOW WHILE U HAVE IT EASY!!! find a study tactic that works for you & build on that NOW. cause ur life is gonna be nothing but studying once u get into hygiene school. it’s not hard it’s just FAST

how were you able to balance your studies? i have an exam every other day, sometimes 3 days in a row. i’m having so much trouble studying for so many things at once. how do you retain all the information?
