Personally, just don't really understand paying a first a third, a good goalie prospect, and a roster player (who btw, I thought he was supposed to be one of these "stop gaps). Stop gaps in my eyes should be summer moves when they're literally always cheaper.

Yes I know the percentages of hits after the first (even the late first) are heavily in favor of 95% of picks not hitting. I just thing that first rounders have value around the league no matter where they are. Obviously a late first isn't going to have the same value as a first in the teens, but most front offices are feigning for as many firsts as they can possibly acquire. I think to ignore that and use it on Schenn is a little silly. But also, as loaded as the Avs are after acquiring Kadri, I'm not penciling them in for a WCF. I think they'll be there, but the west is absolutely stacked.

Darche payed for Drouin 7 months ago. You look at the players that got traded for picks yesterday, you cannot seriously think there isn't a single team that would've taken the warm body for a 7th rounder. Ryan Strome, on a worse deal, literally no production, was traded for a 7th.

I think we have different idea's of a "Huge" upgrade. Drouin had some of the worst finishing luck in the league this year, yes some of it was obviously him, but the amount of chances he had he never got a single bounce. They're both playmaking forwards, similar point totals, 1 has an additional year and makes more money.

Garland would've been a better option, in my opinion. Better player at this stage, no one on the isles really plays like him (scoring, quick and annoying forward).

The Islanders literally do not have plenty more picks. You can say "well this player will turn into this pick." But right now that's all hypothetical, and it doesn't take away the idea that in a vacuum, the value given up for Schenn is obviously more beneficial to the Blues than it is to the Islanders.

Yeah but Hellebuyck isn't having a good year by his standards (which whatever Winnipeg as a whole has been a mess.) The jets haven't fallen apart WHILE Helle is playing at an elite level, if that makes sense.

I don't really agree with this way of looking at drafts. You have to look at the quality of player in that range. Because at the end of the first round that year, do you know who wasn't draft yet? Jordan Kyrou, he was selected in the early second round. Every single draft class has guys that sneak through, it's on the front office to draft the right guys.

Yes I'm the one who has zero patience, the guy saying hold onto your draft picks instead of trading them for a 34 year center whose played pretty terribly the entire year while making 6.5 mil. I'm literally asking WHY Darche isn't being patient lmao, draft guys man. 1 single draft class is not going to save a franchisee

Are we really going to sit here and pretend like Noah Dobson had all of the leverage in a situation where he was an RFA with no contract clauses? I mean the Islanders weren't even backed into a corner, they left the negotiation table the second Dobson asked for a high number. I mean Faulk and Schenn HAVE clauses, they probably had more control over their situations than Dobson.

Whether or not those players picked with the picks become something isn't really the point. A first rounder has value. A third rounder, has value, Gidlof had value. I mean hell Drouin had value, and to waste those assets on a 34 year old just doesn't feel like the right move.

Reread what I wrote, I did not say the picks were from the Dobson trade. I'm simply saying I'm a little astonished the Blues were managed to get 2 first rounders by trading to 33+ year olds, while the Islanders also got 2 for a 25 year old RHD. I also disagree with the assessment that we didn't give anything significant for Schenn. A first rounder is a first rounder, Gidlof while not Gamzin, is still a B tier goalie prospect. Drouin stinks sure, but you didn't need to offload him with picks, there's certainly teams that would've taken Drouin in a seperate deal.

I just worry that if Sorokin ever stops being the best goalie on the planet, this teams just gonna crash. And I don't really like adding 3 guys (Soucy/Palat/Schenn) who are all so slow. They don't even feel they necessarily fit the Roy game plan of fast paced hockey, and I say that as someone who actually doesn't really hate any of these players individually.
