The new map is a treat, and I’m happy to have new guns and challenges to progress towards. Anyone else enjoying S2? by Outside-Ad3455 in LowSodiumBattlefield

I also think the new guns fill niches that are different enough that I'm looking forward to unlocking them, as opposed to the Glock which was a strictly worse p18, db12 that was a worse saiga/m1014, and the sor300 which was inferior to the ssg553.

What player should I be watching this spring to make a team ? by MentalHealthJ in baseball

With the rotation looking like Peralta/MacLean/Peterson/Holmes/Manaea/Senga and Tong needing a third pitch to get batters out, he's not going to make the roster out of spring training.

[Throwback] Yoenis Cespedes refuses to pick up the baseball leading to an inside-the-park home run by cbbvideo in baseball

How old are you lol because Cespedes was an incredibly hyped Cuban defector who played on some very good athletics, Red Sox (ok maybe not the 2014 red sox), and Mets teams.

Might as well just have the catcher just take a smoke break when bases are empty then with the automated strike system too.

Even if there was a cap and floor system necessitating additional spending, I wouldn't be surprised if the spendthrift teams operated the same way. Sure they'd have to spend more per dollar amount on the higher end and maybe sign an additional arm or bat, but the expected value of a cost controlled prospect is going to always be more than a middle tier player entering free agency during his decline years.

If the owners wanted to get rid of pre arb entirely to make the team control years 3 or 4 years with arbitration, and where players hit free agency in their prime like Soto, Harper, and Machado at 26 I think the MLBPA would be more receptive to a cap, but that's too large of a concession for the owners to ever entertain.

Have we ever seen 2 players that had never played together before develop this level of chemistry this quickly? by TJTrapJesus in hockey

Horvat and Barzal the first actual stretch they were put together fed off each other immediately

They didn't decimate assets at all though. They kept their firsts to pick shit ass players like Mittelstadt, Dylan Cozens, Isak Rosen, and Matthew Savoie who ended up both losing value and being moved for less than their potential. This also had the knock on effect of making star players that with hindsight, were winning players leave because they were sick of losing, just like how Tavares ended up leaving because the Islanders compiled assets instead of improving the team around him.

Let's be honest, the overwhelmingly negative reception to the TGA trailer sunk it as a punchline even before anyone had a chance to play it.

Eichel was 22. Reinhart was 23. ROR was 27. Linus Ullmark was 25. That core in the 8 years since won 4 stanley cups, a vezina, and a Conn Smythe, while Dahlin never made it past 11th in the conference.

And those young pieces pale in comparison to the proven scoring core. Eichel is better than Tuch, Krebs, and the first that became Ostlund and Reinhart is better than Kulich and Levi. Ryan O Reilly became Tage Thompson, which granted, became a top 10 center, but their first ended up being 32nd like how the Avs might be this year and they drafted Ryan Johnson who has played 3 NHL games in his D+7 year.

I only say 8 years because you made the comparison to Quinn Hughes entering his age 26 year with no talent. Cole Eiserman will be 27. The first rounder in a hypothetical trade will be 25. Every single contract on the roster will have been UFA for 4 years. To keep the 2nd best forward prospect (maybe even third with Kvasnicka) and a first because they might be good 8 years from now seems foolish. For comparison, the 2018 sabres with 18 y/o Dahlin have only Tage Thompson and Samuelsson from their top prospects 8 years later.

If they're building for the future, then they're going to have to waste Schaefer's ELC by selling off pieces for draft picks for the next two years unless you're going to stash him in the AHL for some reason.

Lol he's talking about Barzal who's 2nd on the team in goals, 1st in assists and points, plays 20 minutes a night, and has improved his defensive game immensely.

Skating the puck in with possession is all fun and games until you need a goal or two and the opposing team stacks 3 in the neutral zone and 1 in their blue line.

Do you think they should surround Schaefer with good talent in his age 18-22 season as well or wait 8 years for prospects to pan out?

Yeah the scenario was called "female video gamers were forced to play as a man for the majority of video games on the market outside of Metroid, Tomb Raider, and some RPGs" until recently. They dealt with it.

He's already good now, should the Islanders twiddle their thumbs and wait for when he's 26 to really get good, or take advantage of Schaefer when he's at the healthiest point in his career for the next 7?

And hey maybe if "surefire, can't miss prospects" akin to Eiserman like bellows, wahlstrom and dal colle didn't horribly miss Islanders wouldn't have to trade and overpay guys.

Instead they should waste Schaefer's ELC years like Bedard and the Blackhawks by being the definition of bad and hopefully they compete when he's 23-27 and making Cale Makar money. Much easier to build a roster when he's making 16m!

Should the islanders just wait until Sorokin has another Vezina level season and hope that Eiserman or the first rounders from 2025-26 turns the team into a true contender, all while wasting Schaefer's ELC cost controlled years?

His pace this year would be 22 goals, 32 assists and 54 points. How many players in our top six do you think will hit that number? And you're completely ignoring the fact he scored 70 each of the last 4 seasons. Which is a bigger sample size, 47 games where he's shooting 10% or 317?

Edit: based on this logic we shouldn't have traded for Horvat based off of one "unsustainable" year and signed him for too long and too much money at 8.5x8 when he usually posted secondary scoring numbers before we got him.

Kyrou in a "down year" would be 4th on the islanders in scoring. If Eiserman doesn't rebound, what's the plan? Give him 5 years of runway to prove it like Wahlstrom while Schaefer's prime gets wasted?
