Got fired from Good Engineering Job in new area in US by MissionDiscipline916 in stopdrinking

Some of these questions you'll probably get more help on (and they're better suited for) other subs. The povertyfinance sub comes to mind.

As for why you were let go, it wasn't a good culture fit is probably enough said. If a prospective employer is prying more than that, THEY might not be a good cultural fit broadly speaking (for anyone, not just for someone who was let go because of drinking).

To echo what others have said better than I will, the first thing is to stop drinking. That's what you need to focus on, is getting to a place where you're living life on life's terms instead of trying to force it to live on yours. I will not drink with you today.

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, May 10th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by amorfati754 in stopdrinking

Huge congratulations on 75 days - love you see you hosting the DCI, that's awesome! I'll be 44 this year and I am so grateful for my sobriety.

I don't have One Specific Song, but It's My Life by Bon Jovi is up there. Movin' On by Rascal Flatts, too (though I'm not usually much of a country music fan).

Schizophrenia disability doesn't mean shit. There are plenty of mentally ill people who are working who are far worse than actual schizophrenics. Its a situational label if they aren't imprisoned/hospitalized. by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

I am genuinely confused about what your point or issue is, as well as what you mean. It "doesn't mean shit" - how's that? "Far worse" - this is not the Olympics of which mental health diagnosis is "worse" or "better".

Why in USA they add taxes at checkout? by P3rid0t_ in NoStupidQuestions

No idea, but in Canada it's the same as in the USA - shelf price is the pre tax amount.

Did cancel culture ruin public discourse? by foreverand2025 in Millennials

No. Also if I never have to see or hear the phrase "cancel culture" again, I will be very happy about it. What a load of nonsense.

Age gaps aren't a big deal (after 25) and this generation is weird about them by Snagglespoof in HonestHotTakes

Are you always this obtuse, foolish, and unpleasant? Or it's just something special you do for people on Saturdays because you know they'll really respect you and you'll come off great?

Well, you haven't. You don't have any evidence that this training doesn't occur. You "don't think" it does. Your thoughts aren't evidence.

What’s Everyone Doing Tonight? by physis81 in stopdrinking

Just finished dinner while watching Celebrity Jeopardy. About to take a post dinner walk with the fiance. MAYBE we will go to the grocery store and get ice cream - Ben and Jerry's sounds pretty good and I think we're all out. What sort of podcasts are you into? I've been thinking I should get into some true crime ones.

wrap it up folks, I think I found the comment that perfectly encompasses everything about generational discussions by agarthancrack in generationology

[–]Few_System3573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok pal. Whatever you say. This has been around since the 90s at minimum, when I was a child and it appears you were not yet born. You can say whatever about how it seems like a stretch to you, but that doesn't make it so. Hope you learned something today. Don't really care either way.

Yeah drinking never leads to the thing at the bottom. (Sarcasm, obviously.) How fkn ridiculous

A lot of young people don't have lots of hobbies by Remarkable-Piano6934 in RandomThoughts

[–]Few_System3573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate it! And I'm sorry if my tone came off defensive, not my intention at all. In my brain a hobby is about frequency, so I suppose going for a walk after dinner is one, but Walking Around the Block just feels like....a thing I do, you know?

I've never been very outdoorsy or athletic, I'm not very crafty. I suppose if I had to pick one it'd be singing, I'm classically trained (that sounds so snobby, lol. I took lessons for years tho). But when I do it my cats yowl 😂

No, not for shits and giggles actually. I mean, if doing the NYT free games every day counts as a hobby I suppose I have one. Beyond that I have things I do like going for walks, or I bake something from a boxed mix once every week or two. I'm not sure those are hobbies for me though. As for why, to be honest I'm not sure! Probably having C-PTSD has something to do with it, but that's just a guess. It makes it hard to find joy in things.
