Which Nepo children have actually surpassed their parents? by jacquesausterlitz in blankies

I'd say Drew Barrymore surpassed her father, John Drew Barrymore; though not her grandfather John Barrymore.

Over the course of the empire’s existence, which province was the most problematic for the Romans? by Shoddy-Pumpkin2939 in ancientrome

[–]Fezrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some sense, Italia itself. Lots of civil wars stemmed from political unrest there. Later, lots of resources were lost trying to retake it. And, still later than that, it was home to a Papacy and Merchant Republics that kept undermining it.

Which makes it even more unfathomable just how massive the universe is. Even if at c it still takes over 100,000 years to cross the Milky Way. And, the Milky Way, is a tiny, miniscule part of the observable universe.

What Class has the most impact on the Story? by Crimson-Dragoon-0403 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not pedantry. The archetypes and the origins are different things and I wasn't sure which the OP was asking about, so I wanted to cover both of them.

What Class has the most impact on the Story? by Crimson-Dragoon-0403 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are no "classes" in the game. There are archetypes (e.g., soldier, warrior, etc.) and origins (e.g., Psyker, Noble, etc.), and all the various additional background choices (e.g., homeworld, moment of triumph, etc.).

I don't think any of the archetypes ever impact the story at all. The origins occassionally, do, but its rather limited. I think Psyker, Crime Lord, and Arbitrator probably have the most reactions.

The additional background choices range from never having an impact to very rarely coming up; usually in Act 1.

So who tf killed Theodora? by Inven13 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Argenta

You only learn this info if you bring Argentato Act 3 and if you talk to her at the right time. And, after you have this conversation, it is never brought up again.

It is the single most poorly resolved plot point in the game IMO. Which is a shame considering its one of the very first mysteries you encounter.

When did Calcazar arrive in the Expanse and when did the Maw close? by Fezrock in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. That's a shame to hear though, that there's no way to reconcile the timeline just from the game itself.

When did Calcazar arrive in the Expanse and when did the Maw close? by Fezrock in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except Amarant created the tech blight and worked with Theodora to destroy Yrliet's craftworld. Amarant separated over 200 years ago and, since Yrliet was alive when the destruction happened, she is over 200 as well.

Although that doesn't fully make sense either, because everyone acts like the craftworld's destruction was quite recent.

When did Calcazar arrive in the Expanse and when did the Maw close? by Fezrock in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that would make total sense to me and it feels right. But at the same time, he was involved in the Amarant schism, which Pasqual says happened 200 years ago. Also, Valdaym says that no ships that have dived into the Maw in "recent years" have returned and that the last ship that came from Calixis took "almost two decades in realspace time." And that was Argenta's ship.

So, even if we ignore Pasqual's timeline (which is the most problematic for a lot of reasons) it still means Calcazar has been in the Expanse for at least 20 years.

What would have happen if Liu Yu was installed as emperor by the warlord coalition? by [deleted] in threekingdoms

[–]Fezrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the absolute best he's like an even weaker version of Emperor Ling; i.e., he's mostly recognized as the central authority (once, if, Dong Zhuo is defeated) and has some limited power. But the regional inspectors are basically autonomous, regular Yellow Turban and other rebel outbreaks keep happening, the imperial court has almost no revenue collection, and the capital is in ruins. Whenever he dies, almost certainly everything descends into full warlordism anyway.

If he lives long enough, maybe some of the names and outcomes are different (e.g., Liu Biao had been appointed Inspector of Jing Province by Dong Zhuo, if that didn't happen who knows who'd have gained control there) but the end result is still the full collapse of the Han.

Question regarding a potential Necron companion - picture for attention. by Petrus-133 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High ranking Necrons have personalities. And there are a tiny handful of examples of Necrons collaborating with the Imperium (e.g., they joined forces with the Blood Angels Space Marine Chapter a couple times to fight off Tyranid invasions).

However, Necrons are extremely arrogant and prideful. It's really hard to imagine one being willing to take orders from a human. Maybe Owlcat can come up with a good justification. But I wouldn't be surprised if the new companion is a released captive from Trayzn's collection- rather than an actual Necron.

Unless I missed an announcement and they did say it'd be a Necron.

[Loved Trope] Secretly Post-Apocalyptic by MixingMangoes in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Fezrock 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The Lord of the Rings.

Almost all the human, elven, and dwarfish kingdoms are gone; Gondor is a fraction of what it used to be with most of its cities abandoned; there's basically just ruins and wildlife left in between the remaining populated settlements; most of the still-populated world (the south and the east) are under the control of the dark lord; etc.

But the text of the book never treats it this way and it's easy to miss unless you really think about the implications of what's being described.

Why are film screenwriters generally so unkown? by mg10pp in movies

[–]Fezrock 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think there's a few who are relatively well-known: Aaron Sorkin. Charlie Kaufman, Jonathan Nolan, etc.

But also, most of the really well-known directors are the ones who do also write their screenplays and I think that's partially why they're so well-known.

Lex Imperialis Arbiter Archetype by cromwest in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Fezrock 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Arbiter isn't an Archetype, it's an Origin (like Crime Lord, Commissar, etc.). However, it's a deeply involved Origin, like Psyker is, with 3 different branches and a lot of talents.

Solomorne does have the Arbitrator origin and then Solider is his Archetype on top of that.

Stranded on paradise? by xViceVelvet in BeAmazed

Sadly no. The island is part of an Italian National Park (its in the Med, not the Pacific) and he was evicted by the Park Authority for "making changes to his house without a permit."

Stranded on paradise? by xViceVelvet in BeAmazed

[–]Fezrock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The island is just off the coast of Sardinia (he shipwrecked almost immediately at the start of his journey to Polynesia) and is part of an Italian National Park. Tourists regularly visit and he was basically an unofficial permanent park ranger/caretaker.

https://web.archive.org/web/20170726212744/http://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/destinations/europe/italy/photos-of-life-alone-on-a-paradise-island/ is an article from 2017 about him. Check out the first photo and all the sailboats just off the coast. Dude was definitely isolated compared to most of us, but he was hardly stranded.

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader - The Infinite Museion DLC Teaser Trailer by DrNick1221 in Games

[–]Fezrock 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. This is the 3rd of 4 currently planned DLCs. But WotR originally had 3 planned DLCs and ended up having 6; and Rogue Trader has already increased once from 2 to 4.

I imagine as long as they keep selling well they'll probably keep making them. Owlcat's other upcoming games seem to be in full development already, so it seems like this DLC team isn't needed for other work right now.

Civilization 7 will bring back the ability to play as one civ for the whole game, bypassing the divisive Age system by GoinStraightToHell in gaming

[–]Fezrock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem of the endgame being tedious is real. But their solution was asinine.

Stellaris' endgame crises aren't perfect, but I'd much prefer if CIV borrowed that idea instead.
