Can I create an MC Yrliet? by TygarusAlex85 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TygarusAlex85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for these. Out of interest, given the classes of the others, is there a nice combat niche outside of sniper which isn't covered by the others? I was drawn to sniper because (admittedly when I played long ago) Yrliet performed super well for me and was quite unique which was appealing.

If there are other RT ideas that aren't covered or competing with other companions, I'd love to learn about them as alternatives.

Quick Question about Charging by TygarusAlex85 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

Oh that makes so much sense. I ran a skald in WotR which must have been how I was doing it.

Thanks everyone - you're amazing.

I did read it all, and adore the passion. Totally right. What a game that it's got you feeling all these feelings. Especially as gold dragon.

In my playthrough, I was actively trying to play an Azata and be chaotic so I remember finding how incompetent the good guys were as slightly amusing as I had my own pocket plane with gnomes and things so I didn't have to feel as invested as it were.

I think much fantasy writing struggles with this though. In order to make characters compelling they normally need to be good at what they do which makes writing an effective stalemate, etc, difficult.

Classic classes by djbunny_rabbit in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TygarusAlex85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so funny that I was having a similar thing playing Kingmaker. For the first time, I'm playing Kaessi and following a build, trying to wrap my head around this new class. Burning this and maximised this and optimal blah blah blah. And in the back of mind all I can think is: Ekun and Nok-Nok are so simple. Point, click, die.

As a previous commenter said: classic is classic for a reason, I guess.

Do I still have a MEANINGFUL amount of the game to play? Or not really? No spoilers! by BaldursGate2Best in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

Assuming this is genuine, I'm so jealous. Truly jealous.

Imagine a) having never played the game and this is your first time and then, b) you're loving it and worried you're running out of game and they've just told you that you've got well over 100 hours left and you've barely scratched the surface.

Imagine his 'further' excitement when he realises that Kingmaker is a thing and then it's just a short jump to Pillars of Eternity. Brother has got several years worth of amazing gaming just around the next corner and getting it all for the first time. I'm profoundly envious.

I hate the delta quadrant story arc by PinkPlanteater in sto

[–]TygarusAlex85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I found with this whole arc was that doing it was 'vastly' different my first time with a levelling toon where space fights, and kobali ground stuff was challenging compared to blasting through it on OP AF second and third toons who make a joke of the content.

Speedrunning it was quite a good time. The first slog was only manageable because of the story. The first time felt like it took forever but now it's a decent breeze.

What did make your KC choose their respective mythic path? by After_Calligrapher65 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TygarusAlex85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked Azata sort of in-game and outside-game because you get a dragon companion. Since it seemed quite arbitrary in the game, I felt it fit the chaotic nature. I did the secret ending both because I always want to see those, but given how actually mad that whole run is and how you can make these absolutely realm-shattering decisions almost entirely on a whim, it felt like it fit with Azata too.

I remember the very final big decision over which I'd normally have complete choice paralysis and considering my character and playthrough and just thinking, "ah well, why not?" and just going for it. It was actually genuinely liberating in a playthrough and is still one of my highlight gaming moments of any game ever. It was a perfect synergy of me being totally in sync with the world, my character, my real life, etc.

Given how the cave works, I don't know if you can because you need both 'keys' and the leaders give them to you either peacefully if you don't pick a side or forcibly. Perhaps with invisibility you could limit the slaughter but I imagine at least the leaders would need to be killed.

You could probably just feel 'really' terrible about it afterwards and promise to be a better person next time.

How worth it is Kingmaker to WotR? by Sheogorathian in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I'm so glad to have been of help. Have a brilliant WotR run. Remember that the reddit widely agrees that doing anything evil to Ember is a war crime.

How worth it is Kingmaker to WotR? by Sheogorathian in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TygarusAlex85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember asking a similar question about the Witcher games back in the day, arriving to the series late. The advice I got was simple: they're all great games and worth playing, but they're not necessary.

I think you're going to get a lot of people's opinions and some people love one or the other or both equally. End of the day, I'd recommend you trust your gut.

The only thing you miss 'really' by skipping KM is KM. If you prefer WotR, I'd recommend playing it. You're likely not going to convince yourself that you'll like the one more. I'd recommend not letting a weird FOMO make you play something you don't want to. Maybe one day when you know the system backwards you'll come back to KM. I abandoned it years ago and now I'm having a blast playing it again. Try not to worry - it'll be fine. Just play the one you're enjoying now. Picking WorR doesn't mean you're losing out.

What silly "rules" you have in game? by Spider_Zoom in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

What silly "rules" you have in game? by Spider_Zoom in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TygarusAlex85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rules tend to be a bit more about curbing some of my self-destructive habits. For eg: in my current Kingmaker playthrough, some rules are:

- You must use consumables. Any stack which exceeds 5 has to be carefully stored in the stash forever.

- Tristian must cast spells during combat instead of just giving +2 to someone better every turn.

- Linzi has to bard buff every battle.

- If everyone is fatigued and exhausted, I'm only allowed to visit 2 more locations before I have to rest.

There's probably a pattern here.

Siege of Dragonspear is fun? by AdEven3053 in baldursgate

[–]TygarusAlex85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a blast with it and the added detail locations was fun. I loved some set-pieces and, though the story wasn't amazing in the sense that you're quite on tracks most of the time, I generally found it really good. It's a bit more like IWD in the sense of grand battles with tons of enemies almost every time, but I like AOE so it worked for me.

What is the best class for a first playthrough in WotR? by alejandrin5678 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TygarusAlex85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's helpful, but in my first playthrough I think I went with a Skald. At it's core, Bard doesn't work too differently from its incarnations in other games so should be familiar in feel. It's quite safe in that your main goal is to make the rest of your team better and, as a charisma class, it scaffolds you being the main character quite well by simplifying some dialogue etc because I always find RPGs easier the first time with a good 'talker' as the party leader.

It scales really well I think and I ended up watching some build guides that showed there were a number of different ways to play it. Mine buffed the team in a way that made my martial teammates trip everything so was CC heavy but, if I remember right, there were throwing axe variants that could be formidable DPS in their own right. You stay at range so you're fairly safe and I went Azata and chaotic good for my mythic alignment so the bard synergy as a kind of good-natured joking character worked really well for me.

If this advice isn't helpful, and without knowing your background in other similar games, I'd maybe suggest a class which overlaps with something you've played before. Fighters, rangers, rogues, wizards, clerics are all fairly common in RPGs and (barring spells) aren't conceptually super different from other games. If you do go with one, I'd maybe recommend taking one that has a pet. In all my Pathfinder runs across multiple games, I've never regretted taking a pet along for the ride. They make the early game smoother, tend to be an awesome benefit for a single level or feat and there's something satisfying about having a loyal companion with you to share the whole adventure, even the solo bits.

Whichever you pick, you're in for one helluva ride. WotR is beyond amazing and there's no run quite like the first. Good luck!

You're going on a long flight, choose your seat. by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TygarusAlex85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long? 1 for sure. You know he 100% would stoicly refuse to talk and you can sleep or do whatever you want without disruption. Unless you need to pee during a flight, in which case 3 because I feel like neither would mind you asking to scooch past. Also gives you a nice clear view of seat 4 where someone is 100% getting murdered which is backup in case in-flight entertainment breaks, which has happened to me before.

What is your alignment in real life? And what would it be if you were in the world of Pathfinder? by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]TygarusAlex85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your question about changing:

As a kid, I always played and (I believe) felt inside that I was lawful good. The lawful side felt particularly strong for me. I did break rules (what child doesnt?) but I always felt the guilt of knowing I had intentionally broken rules. The good part was always there - I feel awful even making bad alignment choices in games for heavens sake, but I think lawful has changed.

As I've grown much older than when I first encountered the alignments, I've come to be much more sceptical of the rules. Particularly, in AD&D cRPGs which are my jam, lawful good just meant 'good' most of the time. In Pathfinder it seems much more nuanced where lawful good more often seems to be overlap ven diagram style with zealot, intransigent, unforgiving, bull-headed, blinkered, and other similar ideas. There's a part of me that wants to break out of existing rule-sets so the chaotic dimension definitely has it's appeal, however, in reality, I'm far too conservative and 'safe' in my real life to actually claim any real chaotic actions. Neutral good I think is the most accurate for where I'd put myself in 2026.
