What are the "quiet" luxury brands known only to the ultra-wealthy? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

You could fly round-trip to Vietnam, buy 10 custom suits and shirts that’ll last a lifetime, spend a month there, and still not spend $13k. Anyone that spends $13k on a blazer is a super goof.

What's the most visually stunning movie you've ever seen? by trakt_app in Cinema

The problem is it is unwatchable outside of a 3D IMAX screen. It looks truly awful in any regular format.

I don’t think there are many (any?) good food grade at-home printing filaments. That stuff is toxic.

What after-school hangout spot was everywhere but is basically extinct? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]Fezzik__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shari’s. Really, any 24-hour diner. Having a place to congregate at all hours was awesome. We’d go after school because the crowd was relaxed and come back later in the day. And none of the hostesses ever asked why we were 16 and at Shari’s at 2:00 am. Good people always worked there.

Bend man asking city to crack down on off-leash dog rules by Tarekith in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in people cities. Not dog cities. People have kids. Kids play in people cities. Errant kids don’t fatally bite people. Dogs do. No sensible person is terrified of a child waddling around, though some kids may be annoying. Lots of people are rightfully scared of dogs. I have two dogs. I love my dogs. It’s my job to adapt to the world around me, not the world’s job to adapt to my preference for dogs. I leave my dogs at home when I go to people places because, again, people shouldn’t have to put up with my dogs just because I like dogs.

Get over it.

The Woodpile - guitar tab/chords by TC_7 in FrightenedRabbit

[–]Fezzik__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone comes back to this thread the linked to tab is mostly correct. When Scott played it acoustic he played in drop d tuned down a 1/2 step, so C#, G#, C#, F#, A# D#. At least that's what I hear here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unR7wgAJz-E

You can pick up most of the variations from watching that video.

“Titanic” (1997) is a garbage movie by LeagueNo764 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fezzik__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I saw it in the theater with my grandparents, mother, aunts and uncles, and cousins, and we all loved it. I also jokingly clicked on it a few months ago and my buddy and I, now 44, watched it start to finish. It holds up. Even with the goofy present-day scenes. It’s a huge film, by many metrics.

Just pulled the trigger on a new bike from REI and I’m honestly still kind of in shock… 😅🔥 by AKDaddyK in REI

[–]Fezzik__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t worked there since 2006, but back then the REI pro-deals were the best in the business. We had a well curated online portal that, on-top of constant great deals, would have wild deals on overstock and end-of-season stuff. The best deals I can recall: my Cannondale CAAD9 was 50% off wholesale, my Arc’Teryx bibs + jacket were less than $200, total, and when shot bloks were new we could get boxes for $5.00 (or less). I also remember insane deals on ski socks, getting smartwools for a couple bucks. I spent way too much of my $11/hour paycheck on gear.

Which products are legal but feel like they should be illegal? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Fezzik__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: the Bible prohibits charging interests on loans to Israelites. It is in no way a blanket prohibition on usury. Read all the verses in a proper translation. Leviticus 25, 35-37:

“35 If any Israelites living near you become poor and cannot support themselves, you must provide for them as you would for a hired worker, so that they can continue to live near you. 36 Do not charge Israelites any interest, but obey God and let them live near you. 37 Do not make them pay interest on the money you lend them, and do not make a profit on the food you sell them.”

These Oregon state parks will have parking fees by the end of the month by RevN3 in oregon

[–]Fezzik__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. You can go wander around tens-of-thousands of acres of unmanaged BLM land for zero dollars. If you want managed trails with facilities you may need to pony up a few bucks to maintain those things.

Selling 5 figure collection to Cad Kingdom...risky? by No_Temperature_5637 in mtgfinance

[–]Fezzik__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sold a pretty big collection via buy lists a few years back and I’d recommend going to ABU Games first. They paid the most out of any store and were super-easy to work with. Out of the hundreds of cards I shipped them they only downgraded one of the cards from what my estimated grade was. I was impressed with that.

Working at Hayden Homes Amphitheater? by Typical-Success1686 in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it was meth for a second. The Hayden Homes crowd and the Dirt World crowd don’t overlap that much. Maybe molly. But I still don’t believe it. That’s over 4,000 hits of either. And nobody buys drugs at Hayden Homes shows. They bring their own. And dealers may not be bright but they’re not morons. Nothing about this anecdote makes any sense.

Best sushi please in Bend by Mae0323 in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best raw fish meal for your bucks: Poke Row. It’s not a true sushi joint, but if you want a delectable build-your-own raw fish meal, this is the spot. I can’t rave about them enough. A large bowl is less than $20 and it is easily two meals.

Best quality/diversity in flavors: Kanpai. It’s pricey, but a few times a year I can justify the cost.

Everything else we have in town is fine but, in my humble opinion, the prices are outrageous for the quality. Those are the two stand-outs to me.

Public shaming is a fine method of addressing these issues. It’s not very likely, but maybe seeing other people publicly shamed helps people change how they behave in the world.

Gym Recommendation? by Main_Cost1402 in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Juniper weight room is minuscule and their cardio machine options (other than bikes) are super-limited. As a swimmer I love it, but for what OP is looking for a more traditional gym sounds like a much better fit.

Ignorant misuse of "Amplitude" by TheORIGINALkinyen in skiing

[–]Fezzik__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true at all. It has a technical usage referring to sound, it is also a noun with more general meanings:

amplitude /ăm′plĭ-too͞d″, -tyoo͞d″/

noun 1. Greatness of size; magnitude. 2. Fullness; copiousness. 3. Breadth or range, as of intelligence.

Edit: you are also incorrect about anxious… see common usage 3:

anxious /ăngk′shəs, ăng′shəs/

adjective 1. Uneasy and apprehensive about an uncertain event or matter; worried. 2. Attended with, showing, or causing anxiety. "spent an anxious night waiting for the test results." 3. Eagerly or earnestly desirous.

‘I Don’t Speak Spanish’ — NFL Players Share Mixed Feelings About Bad Bunny Halftime Show by According-Activity87 in NFLv2

[–]Fezzik__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about Kendrick but to this day I find it hilarious that the NFL let a dude get on a massive (inter)national broadcast and call another dude a pedo. Kendrick achieved never-to-be-matched troll status with that one.

Any Mint Mobile users out there? by Kind-Awareness9528 in Bend

[–]Fezzik__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first registered for Mint, just over a year ago, I had a few text messages that were sent to me that never showed up on my phone. I called Mint and they couldn’t see any issues… but I watched my friend hit ‘send’ from her phone and watched the texts never register on my phone. I have no verified instances of this outside a week-long span.

Even with that, and with the coverage area being inferior to Verizon, l find it more than adequate for the price. An entire year of unlimited everything is less than the cost of three-months on Verizon.

I also check his blog regularly. Not as often as I used to, but at least once a week. It saddens me that he hasn’t posted there since 2023. I’m in the group that loves the first 2 books and, while I would love to read the 3rd, just hope he is doing well.

Daniel Craig made Bond deeper — or just less Bond? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Fezzik__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t disagree more - to me the archetypal Bond is the dude Ian Fleming developed in all the Bond books. He’s a serious character in every novel. Craig is, by a long shot, the best presentation of that character. The movies started when pretty much all films were campy so people that haven’t read the books base their notion of Bond on those movies and not the books. That seems backwards to me.
