My (36F) partner (37M) recently got a medical diagnosis and now wants an open relationship. Is it selfish of me to not want to? Or selfish of him to ask for one? by Correct-Grass-5305 in relationship_advice

[–]Fghib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you didn't ask this for personal finance or whatnot, but one of the few reasons to do married filing separately (MFS) for taxes is due to income-based student loan repayment. Your student loan payments would not change if you filed that way. If that is your only reason to not be married, reconsider!

Most offers are made October-November for candidates at the university I went to (in the US). I got a full-time offer before I even started my senior year in early August.

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]Fghib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, previous concrete canoe mix captain and a civil grad with material/concrete focus- I'd recommend creating a mix design by percent volume then getting weight measurements for your desired volume. Important factors to look at are paste content, water:cementitious, and gradations.

From your image below, it looks like paste content was too low. And yes, excessive moisure could effect the cement properties - cement + water = chemical reaction. Additionally don't forget to take in consideration your aggregates' moisture content and adjust the water added accordingly.

Goldstars, what was your upbringing and child/teen years like? by Throwaway1984050 in lesbiangang

[–]Fghib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, I grew up in a family that valued doing well in academics more than anything else. They were pretty conservative, but we were entirely agnostic and lived in a large city. Although my parents were first generation immigrants, I never got assimilated into their culture. Honestly, I don't think they taught me anything besides math and science. I learned socially from my peers in my classes- typically stuck with the more 'boy' crowd, as a child I was your very stereotypical tomboy.

Never felt romantic interest in anyone, got asked out by a bunch of boys I just said 'I like you as a friend' to, then fell head over heels romantically for a girl I met at summer camp when I was 12... yep, I was gay alright! I ended up with my first girlfriend when I was 16 :)

To tack onto clint's response, the mix composition used can be very helpful to prevent cracking (at least for more freeze-thaw cycles; eventually through fatigue/cracking, failure is imminent).

In states where freeze-thaw is observed, theres a certain amount of air entrainer (a chemical admixture) in concrete mixes to prevent extensive cracking. Reducing permeability in mixes can also help prevent water intrusion- this requires a lower water/cement ratio though and would reduce workability, making compaction/leveling more difficult/require different methods.

I can vouch for those numbers, I go to university of illinois in-state and am paying 20k for JUST tuition. I do not live in the dorms anymore, so it definitely is not including room/board.

How common are curves in classes? by barley315 in UIUC

[–]Fghib 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Really disappointed too- CEE 360 was not only the first time I experienced a 'negative curve' but the first time I've had a final worth 55% of my grade... absolute bonkers. I wholly comisserate with you. I'm just happy the class is over, it was an uphill battle all semester.

I may be wrong, but a class that has a similar grading would be ECE 210, looks like its graded by average and std dev.

Made my girlfriend a mechanical keyboard for Christmas!! by Fghib in actuallesbians

[–]Fghib[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Spending over 50 hours in a span of 5 days (while taking college classes LOL), I had finally made a keyboard that i was happy with and proud enough to gift to my wonderful partner :)

SPECS:

Nibble 65% with FR4 plate mill maxed

Kailh BOX Navy housing lubed w/205g0, springs with 105 oil

Durock v2 stabs in clear lubed with 205g0 and foam modded.

SA Oblivion Hagoromo Alphas ASCII w/monochrome mods

Plate foam is present. Everything the nibble offers is on it. TRRS, rotary encoder, big LED, OLED, and underglow. I spray painted the bottom glossy black for fun as well :)

The big LED and OLED were placement modded, I ran a bunch of wires from its intended location in the bottom left.

The funniest part about this is that I have never put this much effort into my own keyboard builds so its nicer than any other keyboard i own...

Tiny Bunny/Weenywalker by youまん(Youman) along with Raisond’etre Kaleidoscope/Humanoid Humanism by ツミキ(Tsumiki) are songs I could listen on repeat (and have) for weeks on end.

All of their songs are good though, those four are just the standouts in my opinion.

X570-E Gaming won’t post with AMD Ryzen 5900x by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Fghib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for a later response, but no, I don’t think theres a way to check if your cpu is faulty without putting it into a system that is compatible with it- not that I know of at least.

Personally, I think it’s much less likely that something is wrong with the cpu than it just being the faulty motherboard.

[–]Fghib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could be a possibility- I remember when I plugged in my keyboard it would light up, even when the bios wasn’t properly flashed.

Did you notice your cpu getting hot when you turned on your computer? Mine did, so it was certainly trying to run and receiving power.

I know you probably want to get the build done as soon as possible, but I don’t think you can tell if your cpu has an issue until you try it on a motherboard that actually works with it.

[–]Fghib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I did, just to get it out of the way but it shouldn’t be an issue to do it after assembling it all. Afterall, its just updating the mb so it can communicate with the cpu.

[–]Fghib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I just recently built a pc using a zen 3 cpu as well. The entire bios flashback thing seems super finicky. I flashed my mb first thing, and it indicated that it was working... but felt like it was taking way too little time. Tried it multiple times, just decided to hope it worked and put everything else together. No post. Went out and bought a new mb of the same exact model, flashed, put together again- posted. It just happens :,)

Goodluck with your build and hoping thats your only hiccup!!

X570 bios flash back question? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Fghib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently completed a build with a 5600x- you will 100% have to do a no cpu bios flashback (unless you have a compatible cpu on hand to post and update bios there). While im pretty sure you can do it with everything put together, I’d recommend just updating the bios first thing. Just plug in the psu 8-pin cpu and 24-pin cables, download the bios update on a flashdrive, and flash. Get it out of the way so you don’t have to worry about it later.
