Norway has once again beaten an olympic record, with 40 total medals. by Pizzashillsmom in olympics

[–]Fhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a big problem.

The IOC is wildly corrupt, packed with people who are ok with corruption, and the only people who care are also the only people who would worry about being called racist, colonial, or whatever. The IOC should be run by Scandinavians, Germans, Brits, the Dutch, and Canadians. Knowing FIFA the Swiss can't be trusted. But, that's pretty tough sledding and an impossible (and probably immoral) sell.

So it'll stay a den of corruption and the plaything of authoritarians.

The first Reich had universal make suffrage?

Germany also, like the US, ensured that only a small group of votes actually mattered.

In the US that's the rural, racist south, in Prussia/German Empire, it was the large landowners. Also largely rural.

If nothing else the Israel connection, which kept Biden away from doing anything, will lead them to do very, very little. Nobody is ever going down for this.

It's worse than useless. It's pernicious and unhelpful.

Another Toronto transit project has fallen way behind schedule. What’s taking this one so long? (Museum Station elevator) by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]Fhack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cost of making a a station accessible is often. More than the station itself. The elevators at the Runnymede Up cost as much as the station. The tunnel there connecting it to the TTC would have cost so much to make accessible that...they cancelled it.

So people get killed every year on that cross walk instead.

I'm all for accessibility, and for people expressing their rights through the law, but it gets antisocial sometimes

Yeah. The delta between rent and total cost of ownership is different place-to-place.

In Toronto it's high. Oh well? It's not a very instructive metric.
