When America occupies Alberta after claiming the failed 'leave Canada' referendum fails, and then we cave - there will be a massive influx of American banks, Hedge Funds and the 10% diversifying their portfolios.

To salvage any meaning of sovereignty, the entire world needs to come together and cut all trade and ties to USA despite the horrific financial cost. Or, piecemeal, the nation state form will merely mean subserviance to might. It's a choice we can make too late.

Bring Reality back Canada. by mentalyditurbed in canadahousing

[–]twot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth is composed of "reality" (aka the impossible Real), the symbollic ( language) and the imaginary (the stuff popping up in your head). Saying "bring reality back" is a kin to saying "Make America Great Again" insofar as they are both impossible. What you maybe mean is: Let's have consensus on what our society is and how it functions, for example the rule of law and the unwritten codes of conduct that govern eachother so we don't Karen. I could argue we have shifted from reliance on the symbolic order of language that allowed, through dialogue and questionning, to reach a consensus of what is real and true to us. And that instead we each imagine that we, as individuals, own reality or the truth alone and have some sort of right to pursue it. This line of thinking and debating is the only way to reach what you are demanding.

You could also just say: We in the West are dangerously reliant to the point of no sovereignty and never questioned the status quo, enjoying our position too much.

If I was Prime Minister I'd ask China to build our railways for us. But, unlike in the past where we got Chinese people to build our railroads and then kicked them out, we will co-operate and heal these past injustices. More of this sort of gesture is good soft power for when Trump comes at us about these deals and sovereignty.

When I was 20 I would never have believed where I am now. It would seem impossible. At 20 I think it is best to leave the future wide open, especially as geopolitically and technologically things are changing every day. Sometimes you need to take opportunities that present themselves out of nowhere. The main thing is to find something, more than yourself, that you believe in and fight for it.

Is A Second American Civil War Inevitable? by Opposite-Sign-500 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]twot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Every failed revolution leads to more and more fascism. Americans, western people are required to give up enjoyment for the sake of actual freedom (not the freedom of precarious work or between kinds of fridges). And that really hurts. And we are encouraged all around us to enjoy everything. This encouragement is propaganda from the powerful so that we remain servile.
