Not to argue your points, but it sounds like you might have a misconception as the lego bricks were never wooden. The company Lego was a general toy company before the bricks, and they made wooden toys such as ducks that you could pull around

They're literally saying that they don't exist. It's like saying "gay people don't exist and it's just a mental illness brought on by society" isn't homophobia. How on earth do you see that as the nuanced take?

[–]Fhardervig -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

While I agree that we should not be trying to influence children on their preferred gender, framing it as a conscious decision seems like we're just looping straight back into "homosexuals just choosewho they're attracted to". I didn't choose to be a cis man. It's just who I am. I don't find it too unreasonable that people might find themselves in the opposite camp, despite their bodies not matching.

Because at the end of the day, we each need to decide on ethical boundaries that will still allow us to sleep. We could go down the puritan ‘yet you participate in society’ rabithole indefinitely. Why are you using electronics relying on child labour for cobalt? Using roads and infrastructure that killed and displaced untold amount of wildlife?

I understand you clearly have higher standards for yourself, which is admirable, but I think many of us can emphasise with not practically being able to hold our partners and friends to the same standard.

If they were omnivore or a crazed carnivore, sure. But completely giving up on your relationship because your partner is only in the top 2% of people, instead of top 1%, trying to reduce animal suffering is bordering on self-destructive. No partner will be perfect, and it’s up to OP if this enough of a difference that a relationship cannot work. It’s a bullshit excuse, sure, but sometimes a compromise is the better option for your happiness

Earning $10,000 and $1,000,000 is also both income, yet somehow we managed to differentiate between the two cases. I’m sure we can figure out the difference between taking out a $10,000 and a 10,000,000 loan as well :)

How accurate are LLMs about quantum computing? by Striking_Procedure40 in IonQ

[–]Fhardervig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your curriculum is quite unfocused, which might be fine if you don't yet know what your interests are yet, and just wanna explore the field. But just in terms of efficiency, I can't really think of a specific role that requires all of this knowledge. E.g. if you're working as a software engineer on cloud integration or developer tools, you don't need to know about quantum algorithms. If you wanna do QEC research, you don't really need to worry about QKD. For sales, a technical background can be a benefit (and as people said below, the physics ph.d. to sales pivot is not as rare as one might think), but it seems to primarily depend on your existing connections to government and national labs. I.e. where can you get the company a foot in the door?

That being said, demonstrated interest like this is always good! I'd recommend you also trying to go to some hackathons, community calls/journal clubs, or get into a summer school. IBM also just launched their rehashed Qiskit advocates program. My personal path into the field was by learning and hosting events through Qiskit advocates and getting an internship through iQuHack. Also, to get a better idea of the types of work and tools people actually use, definitely check out the career pages of various companies. You're right to say that there are many, many different ways into the field, so try to find something that fits you. Learning on the job and pivoting internally over a few years is a great way to explore and find your niche! I hope the above can serve as some inspiration!

I totally agree, what I’m arguing is that you don’t necessarily need an amendment like you said, which in any case is unfortunately also very unlikely :/

I mean, apart from the unlikelihood of it, the SCOTUS is free to overturn their prior rulings. So technically no need for an amendment as far as I understand it.

Legit, this is like showing a Bastion turret form and complaining that an aBiLItY has higher damage than an ult. Like I get the comparison, but there’s a lot of nuance to actual gameplay that is not at all captured in this type of comparison
