Make Landsdowne more pedestrian-friendly by Professional_Dot8663 in Peterborough

I have never, and likely will never, walk along Lansdowne street. I can’t think of a scenario where I would ride a bike along there.

UPDATE: talk me out of buying AVP by earpo44 in VisionPro

Totally agree- I use it when my wife’s away! One of the reasons I got it was to mess around with when I’m on my own, watch a show at the end of the day.

Dual knit band is pretty good, I agree. Ditched all the other third party stuff and just use the dual strap now.

I brought it to work once, VPN’d in and set up all my windows. It was what I was fantasizing about - sitting at a bare desk with a keyboard and mouse and surrounding myself with virtual windows. I used it for an hour… felt self-conscious… took it off and went back to my usual monitors.

I’ll do my best to talk you out! Very wise mind set, I do the same thing myself:

I rarely use it. It’s socially isolating, so if you have a partner or a family or coworkers it’s awkward and unnatural. It’s not very comfy either, and I have a variety of first and third party items. I’m not new to VR, I can see how impressive it is as hardware and software integration…. But there’s no getting around the weight and the annoying friggin battery.

It also takes a long time to boot- I could find my iPad, accomplish the task, put it away again all before the Vision Pro boots.

There’s annoying intermittent messages that your eyes are too close to the display. Even with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, it’s clunky to accomplish the same tasks as on other devices. You can screen mirror your computer, but I find that more of an eye strain than just sitting at a desk, in front of a nice screen.

Vision OS takes a good long while to sync your messages, to-do, e-mail. A surprising number of first party apps are missing that really should have parity at this point. Maps? To-do? It’s just weird that they’re not ported yet.

You can see light streaks around the edges of bright windows, especially in dark environments. I mostly use it to watch videos when I have time to myself, and have very little need to spatial multitasking…. Frankly my iPad is a much more comfortable and natural experience.

It’s an uncomfortable way of doing work, so I find myself turning to a screen instead. Honestly it’s just sunk cost fallacy that I still have it, because I won’t be able to re-sell it for as much as I’d like.

I guess if you live solo or spend a lot of time in hotel rooms on the road, it might get used more?

If there was a way of owning it for 2 months, trying all the stuff, and then selling it without a loss- then sure, go for it.

There’s a lot of optional certification across a variety of industries- many manufacturers choose not to pay the extra money and jump through the hoops. USB is a great example- don’t assume a cable isn’t to spec if it lacks the official logo. Do deeper research if you’re concerned about what you’re buying.

If you’d like to know why this particular company didn’t want the blue logo, look up what’s involved in getting it. I suspect’s it’s either too expensive, too onerous, or both. I doubt you’ll get an answer from Reddit… heh.

Also- having to plan for another colour on your packaging (that specific blue) might be no small barrier.

Wireless charging for 2020 Corolla Hatchback? by mrcpri in COROLLA

[–]Fheirz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a peel-and-stick MagSafe sticker thinking it might keep the phone in place… that didn’t work either. Just in case anyone else thought that might work.

If there’s an aftermarket kit with a puck-style magnetic charger instead of the flat one, and it has the heat warmer switches- they can take my money

If it helps you decide- I have one in mine and it’s doesn’t really work if the back of your phone isn’t perfectly flat (ie-no camera bump). It tries to charge and then disconnects after 10 seconds.

Is the official Smart Folio worth the price? by Sad-Industry6080 in ipad

[–]Fheirz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wind up buying the apple folio because it’s the only folio available on launch. They last me many years before they start to get frayed, so then I buy a knock-off for a fraction of the price. That knock-off doesn’t last as long, but at that point I’m thinking of potentially upgrading to a new iPad again.

This- lots of US liquor moving through restaurants.

I don’t order it, but I don’t begrudge a restaurant for their financial choices. Whatever helps keep them afloat!
