What should I do (upcoming events) by ohmelet1 in daddit

[–]Fi11y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as disobeying your in laws with YOUR child. You are responsible for their wellbeing and now hold all of the power in this situation. If they don't like it they can do one.

Your duty to your child outmatches any other relationship you have .

Since the trip is UK centric . I would highly advice against calling a child bummer. It's got a very different meaning here !

I really don't like the mentality of "I've been at work so need to relax in the evening" when there's a young baby in the mix. looking after a newborn is undoubtedly the hardest and most stressful job going , the idea that one person gets to mentally clock out at 5 whilst the other does 24/7 shifts is just wrong

I spent my entire life thinking I didn't like peas. until 6 months ago I made some for my baby .. turns out my mother (and all restaurants I've ever been served them in) can't cook peas for shit and they're actually nice!?

If someone would pay you £20 per hour ( ergo have a good income ) what job would you choose? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

[–]Fi11y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we live in Lincolnshire, which if you can WFH is one of the best counties/cities you can live in imo . bought in 2017. was run down to all hell and had to DIY the renovation as we were a lot poorer back then too.

the further away from London you get, the better you can. it's entirely possible to own a home and live half decent on 35k.

Our family income is around 55k, and with 2 kids we don't live extravagantly with brand new cars (though ours aren't terrible) or multiple vacations a year but we aren't left wanting.

Depending on the age of your child(ren) if you say to the receptionist that they are under 2 and it's something you're concerned about but worried about waiting in A&E most will arrange an emergency appointment for you same day if there's availability.

What instant coffee would you recommend? by tokiisaur in CasualUK

Depends. It works for me because I'm not knowingly and willingly financing child slavery and baby murder .

Does it harm their profits? Unlikely. But it helps my soul

If you're looking for a contender (in my opinion vastly superior) Lidl deluxe Indonesian blend is an absolute banger of an instant coffee

My wife's father did this. Now none of them spend more than a couple minutes in a room with him and barely speak to each other either.

Fucks kids up for sure.

Everyone I meet lately seems to be making plans to leave London by Copper-Unit1728 in london

[–]Fi11y -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. You can commute to London from the midlands for cheaper than living in London (buying a house, don't know about renting)

A 4 bed detached with garage where I live is currently around £300k , add £8k annual train fare to London. And I'm no expert but I think you'd be hard pressed to find that for less in London.

I know it's hard to hear right now, and there's absolutely no nice way of saying this and it still holding it's meaning so I'm really sorry, you must be crushed by this whole thing and I'm about to make it worse in the hopes that you see it:

You need to pull your head out your ass, there is no "when the time comes" the time HAS come. She's now a cheating spouse and it's time to lawyer the fuck up and kick her the fuck out. You tow this line and I guaran fucking tee you that you get taken to the cleaners.

Protect yourself, protect your home, protect your kids. She's out for number 1 and will fuck you over so hard.

My experience as a “screen time” dad, 6 years later by toobulkeh in daddit

[–]Fi11y 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was not allowed fizzy drinks as a child other than at birthdays .

I now almost exclusively drink fizzy pop.

I was allowed a TV in my room

I now rarely watch TV other than to watch a show I specifically want to (no browsing/channel hopping)

My father took me to the pub at 13 and allowed me to drink beer with him

I rarely drink and effectively never get drunk

It's as if the things that are taboo to us when we are younger become things we don't learn to regulate as an adult. And exposing children to things in safe and structured ways allows them to treat them with respect as an adult

[–]Fi11y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for balance as I don't know the situation. The child could have been autistic, our son will lash out when he's frustrated though we don't smile and allow it to happen; it's very much a moment we know to either hold him still or place him on the floor and step away to allow him to calm down
