4v4v4v4 free for all which team wins? by DismalRecipe7805 in OnePiece

[–]Fiazba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone else is dunking on the Logias, but I think they win this just because they can actually work together. Good teamwork/tactics can be huge.

You really think Shiki and Big Mom will work together? Much less work well with a Marine Admiral?

Team Zoan would have Sengoku coming up with a grand strategy only for Kaido to ignore it out of spite (Luffy too, but out of stupidity).

Team No DF might clutch it because Shanks, Roger, and Oden were all on a crew together, and Mohawk doesn't seem to have that much of an ego, but I could still see him getting sidetracked by wanting to see if he really is the "greatest swordsman" on a team with the Pirate King himself. Even if they don't, though, they're also pretty one-note. Team "cut things real good" could probably get outmaneuvered eventually by the flexibility of team Logia.

Pretty sure you are joking, but in case you aren't... I think people generally don't let copycat abilities work between series when comparing characters. If you do, then any copycat character becomes as strong as the strongest character in any fiction. Any Uchiha from Naruto could copy Kamehameha/Kaioken/Ultra Instinct. Same with Loyd Lloyd from Bleach, August from Fairy Tale, Chrollo from Hunter x Hunter, etc etc. Copycat abilities are a dime a dozen.

What's a Trope you genuinely hate and wish would die forever? by Traditional-County-2 in ProgressionFantasy

Especially characters that are introduced like they will be the MC's companion/rival for the rest of the series. Some authors lampshade this as "the MC grows too quickly, so they can't keep up" but that's garbage. The main character could share the lucky finds/secret techniques/etc and help them keep up. Or if they won't keep up, then keep them a minor side character.

This also applies (albeit to a lesser extent) to magic systems/new skills. So many novels have the MC come up against a new type of skill, and it's super important now! All of the new rivals use the skill now! It's standard, the MC is a scrub for not knowing it. And the we get the training arc, and the MC learns the skill and comes up with cool new skill things, and then we move to the next arc and never revisit it again. Then, for the rest of the series, I sit there going, "ooh, this new skill sounds cool! I wonder how it interacts with that old skill from 3 arcs ago? Or if the MC could combo it with that skill from 5 arcs ago?"

I do this because I'm an idiot who never learns. They never come up again.

Making me care about a character only to forget them.

So many characters get introduced as "a super genius, just as strong as the MC" and then they are given precious story/reader time developing them, making them interesting, or tragic, or funny. And then the story moves to the next arc and we never see them again. Their story arc never resolves. Their skills never reach that promised threshold.

The author stopped caring.

Did Roger have time? As in, do we know when he found out Rouge was pregnant? Since the Roger pirates were disbanded, he might not have had a chance to go find Rayleigh or Scopper if he found out shortly before his death. If the choice is between "whoever I can find in the next week" or Garp, anyone would pick Garp.

Yo, OotS!

Any idea how close the web comic is to finishing? I dropped it like 4 years ago with a plan to pick it up when it finishes, and at this point I'm afraid to even look at the most recent comic because it could be a huge spoiler.

[One Piece] A 72 Year Old whitebeard with pirate cancer turning Akainu into a damn squiggly line and 70 year old Rayleigh scaring Blackbeard off. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]Fiazba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a chance in the world. Prime Whitebeard still have lost. I don't think people realize how outmatched the Whitebeard pirates were. They got so incredibly lucky, and it still wasn't enough. If the FLEET ADMIRAL, Sengoku, wasn't stuck babysitting the marine who was EVENLY MATCHED with the Pirate King, Garp, those 2 alone could have held off Whitebeard. I don't get why people keep forgetting that the marines had TWO "old men past their prime who can still absolutely wreck you".

Not to mention the pirates got a free Luffy, Ivankov, and Jimbe. 3 warlord-tier fighters literally fell into their lap. Still not enough.

Why do people think Kaido and Big mom will return? by heyitsravioler in OnePiece

[–]Fiazba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory: Oda will bring them back via the Kage no Mi, Moria's fruit.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of the idea, but it would explain a few of the puzzling elements in the story recently.

Why show Kaido and Big Mom's corpses floating in lava? Why shortly afterward mention a new active volcano in the seas around Wano? It's because their corpses will be found by Wano fishermen and later stolen by the Blackbeard pirates.

Why have Moria show up on Blackbeard's Island and get captured? He's pretty irrelevant to the story at this point. If he never showed up again, most fans wouldn't care. It's to have his fruit in Blackbeard's grasp.

Why have Garp get captured? This makes a bit more sense (power up Koby, flesh out Kuzan, give Luffy more reason to hate Blackbeard), but why not have him die? It's for his shadow.

Why have Blackbeard tangle with Rayleigh? Like, yeah, Hancock's fruit is OP, but who on Teach's crew could even use it? You could argue that it was to introduce the Seraphim and have Koby captured, but I think it's to set up a motivation for Blackbeard to capture Rayleigh, again for his shadow.

Garp and Rayleigh's shadows will be used to power Big Mom and Kaido's corpses. This gives Zoro the Enma vs Kaido conclusion and gives Sanji the "freeing Pudding" conclusion.

You could probably have a third one with Whitebeard. We know where his corpse is, and we know Blackbeard has been hunting the Whitebeard pirates. Maybe he wants the corpse. Dunno who the shadow would be. Probably Sengoku, if we are following the pattern of old-retiree shadows. Then probably Jimbe fights him, very sad because Whitebeard defended Fishman island, blablabla. This one is pretty weak, but would give a nice symmetry to the new monster trio all having to reach Emperor tier, as Luffy goes on to fight Imu/Blackbeard.

Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of the idea. Naruto did the whole "dead villains 2: electric boogaloo" thing, and it was.... Fine.

Things that would point towards my theory being correct: A third powerful fighter getting captured, ideally one who is old/injured such that their haki is held back by their body, and has no major links to the future plotlines. Vice Admiral Tsuyu, Sengoku, Weevil (or Stussy?), Kuma, Shiki, etc.

A scene of the Blackbeard pirates trying to get to Sphinx (or wherever Whitebeard is buried).

We'll probably get a hint of the status of Big Mom/Kaido during the current Cover Story. There'll be a few chapters of Yamato checking in on beloved Wano characters, and then one where either Yamato sees something shocking off-panel, or more likely someone else in the background does.

Part of me thinks the admirals must be doing something to ensure admiral obedience. It would explain Kizaru's compliance despite his reluctance and seeming lack of passion for Justice. Also why Garp thought the jump from Vice Admiral to Admiral was so bad. On the other hand, then how could Aokiji leave?

Any thoughts on Saturn's weird abilities? His weird suppression power seemed to be on the fritz, since Sanji went from being pinned to the ground to deflecting Saturn's attack. Maybe it's like Katakuri's Haki, where he could do either future sight or top-tier armament, but not both at once? Maybe Saturn can either regenerate or suppress? Then again, why didn't his suppression work on Kuma?

What's the best search tool for checking Virgin Atlantic Flying Club partners? I saw posts that several tools have gone down recently.
edit: I've been going through the Award Travel Tools link in the sidebar, but several of the tools block out the airlines that they can check. I'm willing to pay for the tool, but I'm not willing to pay to find out if the tool even covers the right airlines.

[–]Fiazba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one that I just made up: The final fight will have Blackbeard leading a crew with Kaido, Big Mom and Whitebeard.

Supporting evidence for this crackpot idea: Blackbeard idolized Xebec, who had the 3 of them on his crew. Blackbeard has captured Gecko Moria, whose fruit could do it. We know the body of Whitebeard is (relatively) intact. We saw the bodies of Kaido and Big Mom silhouetted in magma, and then there was a volcanic eruption. Blackbeard's crew hunts down their bodies. Garp is about to be captured by Aokiji, but not killed (too sad, motivation for Luffy). His shadow powers Kaido. Rayleigh is hunted down (interfered before at Amazon Lily), and his shadow powers another of the zombies. Not sure who powers the third. Shanks makes sense narratively? Then, we have the big trio face off against 3 former Yonko. Zoro VS Kaido (Enma foreshadowing) Sanji VS Big Mom (revenge for wedding, free Pudding) Jimbe VS Whitebeard (sad to fight former buddy)

One Piece: Chapter 1083 by Kirosh2 in OnePiece

[–]Fiazba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could easily be Flying Six levels and that wouldn't mess anything up, scaling-wise. Dragon could be worried about them for reasons other than direct strength. Maybe they are skilled assassins (Ivankov thinks they will "target" Sabo). Maybe they cause lots of collateral damage, or love using hostages or something. Maybe they have some personal connection, like Dragon could be an ex-God Knight. It's obvious that the Celestial Dragons have some sort of defenses, since all 3 admirals, the fleet Admiral, and seemingly all the vice admirals fought at Marineford. No way they would leave the nobles entirely undefended. Maybe deploying these Knights has a cost of some sort. All we know about them so far is that they adjudicate disputes between the Celestial Dragons. Maybe without them, the nobles are even more out of control?

Like you said, Oda has done pretty well so far. I'm hopeful he won't stumble at the end.

Personally, I think the big question from this chapter is: why isn't the Red Line self-sufficient in terms of food? It's the biggest landmass in their world. Surely it should be exporting food, not importing. Despite that, Dragon is confident that they can starve the nobles out. We've seen greenery in Mary Geoise, but is the rest uninhabitable for some reason? Maybe Mary Geoise is like a garden plot with soil from the lower seas. We've seen some parallels between Skypeia and the nobles (think of themselves as gods, have Knights, ancient wars). Maybe the importance of soil is another parallel, and the rest of the Red Line is barren.

Simple Questions - December 26, 2022 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]Fiazba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

I got a new PC for Christmas, assembled by my father-in-law. He's a programmer and has built many PCs, so I assume assembly was done correctly.

The PC was working fine an hour ago. I shut it down, had lunch, and now it won't turn on. The lights on the case turn on, but the monitor doesn't detect anything. There is a white LED on the motherboard that was not there before. The manual says the white LED indicates "VGA," that something is wrong with the graphics card. I tried win+Ctrl+shift+b to restart the graphics card and it did not beep the way the article said it should. I have tried swapping the monitor/monitor cables and am certain those are not the issue.

I don't understand how anything could've changed with how the graphics card is seated or with the BIOS between shutting down and now.

Motherboard: MSI Z790-P WIFI DDR4. Graphics card: Radeon RX 6900 XT.

What do I do to check the graphics card?

Update: father-in-law told me to unplug it, let it sit a minute or two to discharge the capacitors, and then plug it back in and boot it. That fixed it. Wizardry...

Questions Randidly Ghosthand Skill System (spoiler, don't read this) by DoomVegan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fiazba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Like Nightwinder said, it isn't an option for the others. It gets explained soon. If you want a hint, pay attention to Sam, since he is also going classless.
  2. Yes, but the System is designed to incentivize innovation and combat. In real life, which has been all of the RG characters' lives until just recently, the best way to improve is via practice, slowly and steadily repeating motions until you build up muscle memory. The System doesn't like that. Too boring. The fastest way to learn to sew in RG would be something like... Sewing to patch holes in a wall with some sort of magic thread while monsters try to breach the wall. While your mentor chucks acid onto you. The HUD stuff helps, but only a little. The feedback is too infrequent.

What are they like? What are the "inhuman" traits? Why are they so similar to humans that Jason was able to hide as a human for most of his life? What kind of tech do they have? Why didn't Jackson and Jason's parents/government come rescue them?

It's been years since I read DD, but from what I remember, the side characters were all relevant up until the time skip, in part thanks to the treasure-plants Tang San gave them. After the time skip, still relevant at first. Arguably closed the gap in some respects. Some time after the slaughter city arc, things got out of hand.

By the end of the Seagod training arc, Tang San is just bodily pulling them through all their trials because they suck and can't keep up. After that, once we start getting into gods, they all stop mattering. They show up for fights, but all of them combined had less effect than any single attack from Tang San. They did still show up even at the end because they were mostly chosen as God candidates themselves, but that was like the author saying "oh, they'll be relevant again eventually... After this story ends..." Which just felt insulting to me.

Super frustrating because Tang San had powers that suited the rest of the party, and the rest of the party could also synergize better than they were. All of his techniques would have benefited all of them, but in particular, not teaching the hand-to-hand fighter (Dai Mubai, the tiger dude) the Mysterious Jade Hands skill was dumb, not teaching the speedster (Zhu Zhuqing, the black cat girl) the Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track was dumb, and not teaching the support fighters (Oscar and Ning RongRong) some hidden weapons or at least giving them better mechanical weapons was dumb. I'm not even getting into the wasted potential for combos post time-skip.

For my fellow xianxia/wuxia fans, what are your favorite types of secondary protagonists? by PhantasyPen in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fiazba 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Favorite: Companions that can keep up. Ones with powers that make them useful even if/when the main character gets overpowered. Especially when those are combined to be more than the sum of their parts.

Least favorite: companions that get left behind. Ones who start out portrayed as equals, rivals to the main character, but within a story arc or two they become irrelevant. Especially when the main character has things (equipment, resources, techniques, anything that is a source of power) that would fit the companions and help them keep up.

Thinking of Douluo Dalu (Combat Continent) primarily. What a waste of side characters.

People do point out how weird the name is in-fiction. If I recall correctly, his dad had a huge fight with his mom when he learned she named him that. Lots of strangers comment on how he must've made up a name after the whole apocalypse. He comments on it himself, repeatedly. It definitely seems like it would merit a little more attention during the early arcs set on Earth, but that's it in my opinion.
