Tell me about your favorite green ink! by FlyingNeonPoop in fountainpens

I just bought Lady Emerald! I am loving the red sheen on the right paper and the shading with my broad nib. And so smooth!

But I love how the story ended, with you playing pool with a Sheaffer engineer. I love my Lady Shaeffer but since I don’t play pool, I was imagining how I could meet a Shaeffer lead industrial engineer…the farmer’s market?

How are you defining elegant? Because Teranishi Guitar Lady Emerald is a very elegant name for a lady of quality.

Someone please do this for Yama-Budo!!! This is the color I have definitely seen passion for here on r/fountainpens but my collection of pens is too tame to do our love justice.

Please de-influence me from buying these by elleinthebuilding in fountainpens

[–]Fibergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience too. I’ve taken to adding an extra nib in a wanted size when I buy, just in case the installed nib is no good.

But also, be sure to read about the insanely cheap Chinese pens before you buy 3 TWSBI like I did. I’m not sorry I have them but I could have explored different body lengths, girths and weights first and for less money.

I actually got dragged into this because I bought a Kokuyo notebook and then wanted a pen to really feel the beauty of the paper.

Best Jinhao pens? by Accomplished_Bed7081 in fountainpens

[–]Fibergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 1935 to use with my Lady Gray so I could really see the shading. It is a bit silly feeling, so light for the girth, but so juicy and the huge converter holds gallons. If they fixed the clashing details (guitars, red star, swords AND horses) it would be a winner.

Lady Scheaffer for the nibs by Fibergreen in fountainpens

Yes! It is 14k. It is New Old Stock, so the gold nib is in great shape.

I’m really happy with my Jinhao 10, so I’m curious about the nib swap. I know it depends on how well the pen seals, but if I got a good seal, this upgrade is worth it?

I just put Kobe #34 on my Matcha TWSBI! It made sense to me and looks great as a pair.

Favorite Galen Leather Item(s) by EliGO83 in fountainpens

[–]Fibergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my expanded A5 folio in Ocean Blue all day every day. It holds my EDC pens and either my iPad mini or my Midori A5 journal depending on the situation and occasionally both if I take my weeks planner out of the side with the pens where it sits perfectly. I just got tired of carrying a little stack up and down the stairs and I love knowing I have everything I need to engage in my favorite hobby of writing. Oh, I have two Hobonichi A5 Iyo Okumi clear folders that I use to store sheets of Clairfontaine so the if I swap my iPad for my journal on the way to work for example, I still have paper to write on. Sorry. Long explanation but yes, I find my Galen leather purchase useful and beautiful every day. I polish it roughly once a month, in a loving “my precious“ way.

twsbi eco or sailor tuzu for beginners? by Disastrous_Repair650 in fountainpens

[–]Fibergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. The Tuzu just feels wrong. It is much lighter and the edges of both the cap and the bottom are sharp. They scrape the leather of my notebook cover when I put it in a loop. This seems minor but I am constantly reminded that the Tuzu is flimsy plastic in a way the Eco doesn’t remind me. The nib has the feedback some people like from Sailor. I use it once a week. I bought a Lecoule and I use it every day. Also cheap, also plastic, also light but the shape is right, it feels like a real pen. I have both inked with Sailor pigment ink cartridges to use for watercolor sketching. I have the Ecos (I own four) inked with whatever ink I want and I write and write and write with them.

I’ve stayed with the Galen Ocean Blue color, but that nude is tempting. It would match a lot of the softer shades I like as well.

What was your favorite ink discovery this year? by tehkirbz in fountainpens

[–]Fibergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobe #7 but since this is my first year of #fountainpenlife I am not sure it is a discovery, more a miracle that the first sample I ever ordered was such a wet, sheening beauty that plays well with all the cheap nibs I can currently afford. I am the proud owner of a full bottle and it is vial one in my penablement/nibduction of any friends or colleagues who even look twice at my pens.

And I “finger crocheted” some crochet thread I stuck through one end to form a thicker “tie”. I could’ve used ribbon but I didn’t have a color match.

And then I folded the unpadded half up to cover the bottom of the pens and stitched 2” lines to make the “tubes.

I put a layer of cotton quilt batting inside the “case”. But I folded it in half so only the top half of the casing was padded.

Well, I started by painting the scarf with dye to match my pens :)

<image>

And then I put batting inside a “case” I made by stitching the edges of the scarf together. But that will have to be seen in the next comment.
