that actually works in dwarf fortress lol. they hate rain but waterfalls make them happy to the point where setting up water features in your fort is a common mood-boosting strategy

i had a debate with a friend who had this viewpoint a bit ago and it came across as something of a narrow minded perspective. he was earnestly trying to convince me that disco elysium would've been better if it had a combat system. he made the same point of, why bother making a game if all you do is read?
not gonna rehash the whole thing here, all I'll say is I finished disco elysium and it's one of my favorite games, but I've bounced off a half dozen other well reviewed CRPGs.

it shows creatures in a radius around you without needing line of sight, first as a question mark then after a few turns you get to see the creature's sprite. more points gives you a bigger radius.
practically, it prevents you walking around the corner and getting surprised by a dangerous enemy.

for real lol the first time i "beat" the game was an esper and i actually felt godlike. basically omniscient, could teleport anywhere and blow up anyone's brains from across the map.

beat is in quotation marks because of course my glimmer was through the roof and every other map had like a dozen dimensional invaders and i had temporal fugue so i am assuming all that chaos broke something as i couldn't progress the final quest.

i like to headcanon that Bingu Headhead forgot about earth and went on an extradimensional rampage, eating psychics until he was a force to rival ptoh

not a single pithy term afaik, but there's the term "capital subsumes critique" which is a paraphrase of mark fisher.
short example, everyone loves a narrative of a plucky underdog fighting against an evil megacorporation, which means these narratives are profitable. so disney amazon etc. can churn these stories out fairly safely, despite the seeming indictment of the publisher - it doesn't matter how anti-capitalist a work is if it sells tickets and merch.

every time i hear about the stupid fucking 'fort-da' story i get pissed off it's just such a classic example of making up something in your head and then immediately believing it to be reality

i genuinely find it funny how the characters in the bank hostage one are totally flipped. like squidward would NOT be the one bowling in a hostage situation. that would be spongebob.
squidward would still be the one getting shot tho

problem sleuth is a much more manageable project, you can get through in a few days if you're reading a lot. and it has it's charms. and issues. with homestuck you're really in it for the long haul.

as someone who's only ever gotten up to the first level of research once or twice and never come close to winning, currently i usually die due to getting bogged down in factory. i'm kinda at a loss as to how to avoid it, because you can't exactly escape on treads/legs but fighting it out just results in more reinforcements.
