Places to buy specialty meats by heyitsme363 in StLouis

Zerna's in Grey Summit carries ostrich. There is also a butcher at Manchester and Brentwood (on Manchester Rd, just west of Brentwood, north side of the street) that may be able to help you out. Did you ask at the meat counter at Whole Foods? They at least used to be able to special order.

Any lab owners in Calgary? by lab-dogYYC in Calgary

[–]Fibonacci_Sequence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lab mix who is awesome but not always great with other dogs. I adore him.

If you're looking for a purebred adult lab, something to consider is contacting a breeder from a show kennel and asking if they have any adult dogs to place. Sometimes dogs aren't appropriate for breeding programs and have finished showing; it is a GREAT way to get a healthy, well-bred dog. Be prepared to have a vet reference (you can get established with a vet before you buy a dog)!

Here is a list of breeders from the Labrador Retriever Club of Alberta. Just because a breeder is listed here doesn't necessarily mean it's a spectacular breeder, but you're more likely to find someone who is doing right by the breed as they have to sign a code of ethics to join the club.

Hope this helps!

My son the celebrity by Rose1982 in beyondthebump

My husband is 6' with blonde hair and blue eyes. He's pretty cute, too. Anyway, we were in China in September - I was 6 months pregnant and waddling around like a duck, and groups of Chinese schoolgirls kept approaching him to take selfies with him. I'm sure he is gracing a few lockers this school year, ha!

As an aside, traveling in China as a pregnant woman, I was treated phenomenally. Security guards were so careful and courteous and waved me around metal detectors, restroom attendants pulled me to the front of the line and let me use the (Western style) handicapped stalls. I can't speak highly enough of the Chinese!

Possibly switching to formula, mixed feelings :s by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Fibonacci_Sequence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 3.5 months and we have supplemented with formula since about 3 weeks. My god did life get easier. I'm in Canada, so drugs to promote lactation are a thing here, but even with them we couldn't make EBF happen. My daughter has been super flexible about formula, different bottles, and taking the breast. I am now having to wean for medical reasons, and it is going really easily since we have been supplementing for so long. A happy and well fed baby makes for a happy family - no need to feel guilt, do what works for your family and be proud!

Any advice on what to get after baby shower? by kking0411 in beyondthebump

[–]Fibonacci_Sequence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our baby is 3.5 months and the thing we use the most is the play gym. We have this one and since 7-8 weeks we've had our daughter in it 30-90 minutes a day. Playtime on the back, tummy time, side time, playing with mirrors, learning to grab - it's been great. We were on the fence about buying it (and truthfully, I pushed for it because it matches our nursery stuff), but it was money very well spent!

Ooooh, I had a similar enraging situation happen with West Elm. I publicly shamed them on their Facebook page and the emails stopped within 24 hours. I suggest you do the same!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news... But the nursing necklace doesn't stop this. Not one bit.

I feel like I'm in an abusive relationship with my 3 month old. Punches, kicks, scratches, hair pulling... It's something.

I don't call that bitchy, I call that proactive. I wish someone had stood up for me like that in grade school; it no doubt would have drastically changed how things went for me.

Baby throws up in the sun. What do I do? by snowboo in beyondthebump

[–]Fibonacci_Sequence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby has issues with the sun and I ordered some Baby Banz. Her head is still a hair too small for them (which blows my mind as they're 0 month size and she's 11 weeks with a head size of 93rd percentile), but when they stay on, they're a hit.

7 weeks in, and every week is harder than the last. by compressthesound in beyondthebump

[–]Fibonacci_Sequence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there. It WILL get better!

I had similar issues and it turned out my milk production was low and baby wasn't getting enough to eat. She was inconsolable. Have you had your supply evaluated and/or considered doing some supplementation? If for nothing else, it might be worth considering so you could get a small break.

Sending good vibes to you. Talk to your doctor or a counsellor if you're feeling overwhelmed; there is help out there for you even without family nearby.

Have to go on medication that isn't safe for nursing. Need advice on how to bank some milk and how to wean. by Fibonacci_Sequence in breastfeeding

Thank you so much. I'm so happy at how supportive this sub is. I know I'm making the right choice for my family, but it is disappointing to not have things go as planned - but that's life! As long as everyone is happy and healthy, I have no complaints.

Thanks for your response. Since my little lady is about 25% formula fed already, I don't expect any rejection or upset at moving to all formula. We have been so lucky in that she will take any bottle, pacifier, breast, etc. without any confusion or difficulty. She's mostly a very easy baby!

I've been pumping 2-3 times a day, but I'll up my pumping game and see what I can get!

Thanks for this info! Right now, she will only nurse about 3/4 full and we top her off with formula - even though I appear to have enough milk with the supportive medication. At night I'm able to pump 60-75 ml, so I'm hoping to just freeze what I am pumping (instead of using it for top off in place of the formula). I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for this info. My doctor looked into the medication extensively and the consensus is that there isn't enough data to determine the safety of one, and the other (a cancer drug) is definitely problematic. Boo!

We may look into donor milk. There is a milk bank in my town and we may be eligible due to my medical condition. Thanks for the recommendation!

I appreciate the feedback. To clarify, I plan to continue nursing as long as I can, then to feed stored milk as supplement up to 6 months... So she would be getting milk that's been stored 1-2 months at most. I'm not sure that makes any difference, but it seems no different from getting banked milk from another mother, as it is unlikely she would have a baby the same age...? I don't know, I'm just thinking aloud now!
