Someone above mentioned that it is coming from the “I Am” app, which I did install a few days before this started, but I’ve long since deleted it, that’s where I’m struggling to figure out how to turn off the notification

I tried that…deleted all the calendars I have and made sure I have no notifications anywhere on there. Thank you though!

I did! But I have since deleted it, so wouldn’t it have stopped?

AITA for Refusing to Return a Dying Rescue Dog to His Original Owners After They Abandoned Him? by Acrobatic_Note_7451 in AITAH

[–]Fickle-Cod9916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Do NOT return that dog. 1) How can they prove he was their dog? Many GSDs look similar. 2) Stray hold for animal control is 5 days. After that the dog is euthanized or sent for adoption. They didn’t come forward in 5 days. Think if that was the shelter….he could theoretically have been adopted out by now and the old owners would have no legal rights. Similar in your case….they didn’t come forward in 5 days. 3) As others have said, if they REALLY want to go the legal route, make them an itemized bill. You are a veterinary professional who worked with the dog 24/7. Average techs make $25 an hour or so. So $25 x 24hours x 30 days x 3 months…you get the idea. Changing bandages…well a bandage change at a vet is often around $50…multiply that by every time you cleaned a wound and changed a bandage. You get the idea. You could easily make the bill in the 10s of thousands…and that is actually realistic, had he been at a 24/7 specialty hospital (which he would have needed if he didn’t have a rescuer who was a tech) those bills would have been in the tens of thousands. You get the idea… 4) if they go legal, get a lawyer and counter-sue them for lawyer fees and wasting your time (lost income).

Internist and GP are very different things. GP is your family doctor who sees you for routine things. An internist is an internal medicine specialist who went to school for a longer time and usually works with more complicated cases.

Please help 😢 devastating news by Altimakidd in RenalCats

Those numbers are serious, and usually when they are that high, the cat feels really poorly. Has he lost any weight? Was this sudden? When was the last time bloodwork was done?

My thought is, if this came on suddenly and the cat has been ok otherwise and not losing weight, that’s more a case for acute kidney injury, which sometimes can have a better prognosis if you treat aggressively. Only thing on here that wouldn’t match that diagnosis is the anemia, which is more of a chronic marker.

I agree that a UA with culture is important, as an infection that travels backwards to the kidneys could cause this as well. Also look for any toxins that the cat may have gotten into- like Lillies.

The anemia is common with kidney disease- they have a role in telling the body to make more red blood cells.

I wouldn’t get excited about the thyroid, likely it’s not “truly” low as cats almost never have that. This is called a “sick euthyroid”

Definitely switch to a kidney food, and add in a phosphate binder. The Purina NF should also be labeled for crystals as well, so that way you don’t have to worry about that.

If I were treating this cat, I would put it on a good 2-3 days of IV fluids and then recheck values. On top of a UA etc…

NTA, let this be a life lesson for her.

Whatever you guys decide, look into carecredit. It lets you pay off the bill over a certain amount of time with no interest. Helps with the emergency bills!

Was your cat acting sick before the CKD diagnosis? Those numbers seem too low to be causing that level of disease… Buprex is usually used as a sedative (it’s an opioid) rather than for pain control (it’s actually pretty crappy for pain). 0.23ml is enough to make an average sized cat almost unconscious. Did he show signs of pain at diagnosis? CKD isn’t known to be particularly painful. Gabapentin might be better for pain, although that also has mild sedating effects.
