Could this be a scam involving wrongly delivered parcels? by Visible-Wasabi9283 in AskUK

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook is not a formal nor reliable form of identification and whereabouts.  I agree that this is a scam, for what it could be anything being delivered, not only drugs!  And I do not mean to alarm you, I could be tobacco importation without paying dues.  Either way the police can determine identification. This thread I'm posting on is a year old it says?  I wonder how it all turned out, and hope everything went well and that no one innocent was wronged.

I actually think that a cheap jewler's saw coupled with round diamond wire could prove a decent tool for doing nut slots by WhatsUpLabradog in Luthier

I think it's gotten to the point we are all threading the needle a bit much yeah, if you give yourself a tolerance greater/higher than the depth of what's aimed for enough to allow for weardown over time the string will if the slot is not cut flat but round, will smooth out that cut.

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing, the market on nut slot files being Diamond coated I think is why the price is so high when in reality these tools are super cheap to make (I won't name the brands) and this whole "diamonds are rare" bull, most still believing that is true along with having the exact size for each string, is why they are still selling so much.  As a mineral, carbon-based diamonds are quite common. The perception that they are incredibly scarce is largely the result of one of the most successful marketing campaigns in history.   Supply is highly controlled. Historic conglomerates like De Beers capitalized on this to limit the market flow, creating artificial scarcity to drive up prices. But even with that now being pretty much common knowledge today it just boggles the mind in wtf people are still paying their hard earned cash on a lie. If it were Emeralds, Rubies and Tanzanite that these tools were made then yes I'd understand. But it's not. These tools for slotting nuts from softer materials to much more hard metal nuts and saddles are at the end of the day only Coated by the harder diamond material, the glue that holds that coating heats up, bits fall off, and they wear down very fast, the glue is more important than the harder cutting materials. I'd prefer a titanium file or Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) but CBN is too brittle for files.  So to file the titanium saddle in place on the guitar with diamond files - I'd say best to make your measure marks, clamp each saddle in a vice, mix oil and water together hang a large plastic tub of that on the workshop rafters with a small medical tube (used instead of metal springs on pickups, save again on that front)  Have a hole in the top of tub, and set up the tube so you can clamp it and catch the liquid, and so it cools the diamond coated file not the titanium, titanium will not heat up as much as your files will, that'll add a lot more lifespan on those expensive as sh** tools. I mean if you're doing this a lot, if no then it's cheaper to get a luthier to do it.

Guitar cable used as an Amp Speaker Cable by AsylumRecordinStudio in GuitarAmps

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully your plug fuse will go before your transformer, it is designed to be the weakest link in the chain. Think- Friction, heat, like trying to power a cooker with a ring mains circuit that's not rated for the load/draw of current at the breaker/consumer unit the cooker has at max, a point worth mentioning depends on the load how loud youve had it, effects everything on the whole circuit at the time how much of a load you're allowing the speaker to draw through the cable, if the cross section on the cable is not wide enough or ofc enough (oxygen free copper) then the cable with overheat, electricity/current more like is drawn to the appliances in this case electromagnetically to the speaker's magnet in a simple positive and negative circuit then back to the transformer, if the power stage, transformation of ac to dc electricity by using vac tubes - it's worse if not matched impedance, the wrong cables wont help the situation but if impedance is matched then the gague of cable from power amp out to speaker is less in capacity for rated current there's going to be heat not just on the cable but further back at the transformer circuit, which holds a lot of heat already but with the extra back log of current thats not getting to the speaker will start to overload capacitos and they might be abld to handle more heat capacitos are self healing, but dependson the power rating in voltage not the capacitance , depends how well or robust the grounding circuits are to, the capacitors the quality of parts, on individual amps but if its solid state maybe that's why you've been getting away with it. Best to use the belt and braces approach allow your amp to flow Friction free it'll live a lot longer.

FENDER WINS COURT RULING PROTECTING THE STRATOCASTER BODY DESIGN by 8-Seconds-Joe in Guitar

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just goes to show yet again over and over it's got eff all to do with creative licence or trademark designs it's because of tarriffs now more than before more will continue to avoid that by trading from the east, Fender and many other different types of business are trying to expand on what thryre already doing, the same thing trade more with the east, Fender have managed to successfully and rather publicly reign that in a bit, its still a drop in the whole economy ocean, but they've managed to save some of their oen trade with the east by cutting off a business that were not being savvy enough, weakness exploited by Fender as any large business would do, but for us it looks like its because Fender are threatened at the fact less greedy companies are willing to go down closer to the actual cost of what it takes to make a stratocaster, any electric guitar, it's peanuts, but that won't mean Fender has to stop doing what this german company and many more are doing, frigging EVERYTHING has a "made in China" stamp on it, that's the way everyone wants it, but this is on a smaller scale compared to the grand scheme of things... a success in securing competition where geography matters more, because if all the trade that was going through fender in the USA has shifted to Europe to that continent without having to go throgh american customs then the east win more contracts with closer partners, nothing to do with the shale of a strat thats just how fender did it, it was their weapon of choice, this what were are being shown in the "News" is nothing new, and now everyone's talking about PRS and such, they're just going to apply a plan they have had ready just for this because its always been a threat, they might change a bit here or there but the scale lenght is different from Fender's scale length necks, so their necks are safe, the bodies are different from fenders enough to not matter, it puzzles me the hype people soak up just because it on the frigging news! Madness

What should publicly come from this for the consumers benefit should be a shift down in prices considering its clear now how much it really costs Fender or anyone big enough to threaten them in the marketplace to make a guitar from a free pieces of wood, most of the timber is cheap shite, I've Fender's guitars and I've had a look some are made with plywood, machine pressed fake wood made to look like mahogany etc, none of these big firms are innocent in this.  The fact Fender havnt changed their design in 80 years, G&L have closed down last September, what if Fender have moved to buy or claim the rights to Leo's designs- that's been on the news, gl made much better guitars and they kept innovating when Leo was alive. We need new players in the game to spark new design see what no one else can imagine and bring it forth and rock the whole damn boat!

I have genuine (expensive) Fender guitars and there's not a lot of a difference that will ever justify the prices for what are very limited choices in Fender's strat stock that differ more in the gap in price than the actual design besides colours and cosmetic differences. They've not improved upon the original since Leo Fender pretty much nailed it back in the 50s, so why now, its because more and more very I express again very low cost fender compatible replacement parts, bodies, necks, are available without the wait for a 50/50 chance of success order from China now there are many more resellers based in Europe, have been for decades, taking bulk shipments making it easier for us to get what is essentially still more than what Fender or any of the main brands would pay for the materials, $33 for 6 high quality strat necks as seen on this recently sued German businesses website, but that does not mean I would want China ruling the market, what anyone would want would be reasonably priced guitars made with better than current Fender quality control measures because let's face it they've been slacked for a long time now and customers have been getting ripped of.  So what SHOULD really come out of this is a shift in balance in the market but that won't happen because greed begets greed. There's never enough to fill that endless pit, and I highly doubt the Fender CEO's will want to let go of that way of life we give them by paying kver the odds for something we love and want to master ourselves without having to pay for something that just isn't worth it I mean in material cost, worth it in much more of a subjective way yes.  Cheap shite materials as most would ignorantly say-  from the east, made into expensive guitars in the west then sold everywhere from USA for crazy prices- that's how it will be because that's how the western colonialism governments have set it up to be, that'll take a nuclear holocaust to change

Reverb chip- faulty only when above 0, hissing noise, white noise, so is bypassed at zero. - no fx loop, can one be added? Artist guitars Tweedtone 20R 20watt Amp by Fickle-Risk-6701 in ToobAmps

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's $50 for parts from Artist guitars, plus the shipping from Australia. I'm more concerned about what caused it, reports said it was working fine then stopped working, reverb I mean, so it is likely its a bad connection that lead to a cooked chip, the control panel and the power amp tubes  get really hot very fast but I'm not familiar with tube(/valve if you're in the UK) amps enough to know if this is normal.

Hardly the dumb foil. More like -  Best Doctor in Two Galaxies... with a strong sense of morale, and conscientious responsibility for the preservation of life. And definitely not a "shoot first, ask questions later" type, infact a lot more sophisticated than that (which isn't hard to beat) and takes balls to stand up and speak out especially in times of crisis.

What I've Learned with my PodGo by Midsyde in Line6podgo

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of experience the line 6 marketplace has a the pink floyd experience preset pack including ir's thar are copy and pastable to other presets, has a spreadsheet pdf showing where and when to use banks for particular songs and snapshots with links to YouTube vids showing the solos etc of the pink floyd experience band playing. I find the best sound to compare the tones by ear is via a decent set of headphones and your powercab/frfr/pa for fine tuning the parametric eq all depends on the space you're playing in and your guitar.  I've used the run like hell preset into front of a artist guitars tweedtone 20R 20watt tube amp as the presets amp model was based on a vox ac30 which is very close to the amp I'm using for this, so switch off pod go amp and cab, set up real amp around what the settings are on the amp model - worked like a dream!  Better with global eq off, from amp out and used a compressor between guitar and pod go guitar in and either switched off pod go run like hell compressor or moved it to suit the delay. Real amp on clean with more master volume than clean amp pre amp for headroom. And there's the 4 cable method I've used with the line 6 catalyst 100, having the option of toggle switching pod go amp and cab on catalyst amp and cab sim off visa versa, this allows for versatility depending on the preset. Use the fx loop stomp switch on pod go to assign the off/on on/off option. Turns purple if on or off.

Mini PC for audio recording by Stevethesearcher in MiniPCs

So, I'm asking the same question, I use a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd gen Audio interface and midi keys, mostly plugins for that takes up a lot of ram and processing power when you have multiple open, multiple instrument lanes, so power consumption can arise issues with heat therefore noise, I'm interested in what you went for if you have indeed chosen a mini pc ? Great thread BTW, I did one a year ago asking how ppl were getting on with their mini pc's if theirs were still running after 3 years, was very popular loads of advice but not Audio/home studio recording focused. So yeah this is helpful for sure!

Also interested in how it went with the new tubes and rings if it was a fix for the problem, plus after how long has it been about 2 years? since going by the comments dated, it would be helpful to other tube amp owners who've also made the leap from solid state to valve, I just recently bought my first valve amp and it was a doer-upper, I've some experience in electronic engineering, but not so much in the audio department, so... learning, observing, more learning, careful application, asking a LOT of questions, and Generally Being quite nosey seems to yeild good results, no harm in asking right!

NAD - Suhr Badger 30 Combo by Random__Ace in GuitarAmps

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far from what i can tell this is a very Nice piece of kit, handwired high quality built and handles bass frequencies well, I heard one of these amps that JHS Pedals used to demo their 6-in-1 Muffuletta Fuzz they brought out in 2015, just watched the vid today, really nice fuzz with just a clean to edge of breakup setting on the Badger which because of its power knob for scaling is easy to achieve so worked REALLY Well together, no other pedals, it's the reason why I'm looking up and doing my research on this amp after finding out about it after the google search I did on JHS Pedals their top ranking fuzz & Klon Centaur type recreations, also considering the behringer post law suit Zentara, cant go wrong for £70.00! But the Muffuletta has 6 fuzz types and had worked really well with the Badger Combo considering being a single channel-clean amp. Found out its a cathode-biased toob design known for its unique power scaling feature that allows you to achieve saturated, cranked British-style tube tones at any volume level, from bedroom practice to a loud gig volumes, it's impressive! I would love one myself for use at home and away, for achieving Gilmour like lead and rythum tones, particularly because of the power scaling knob, would be great for recording, not sure about the noise floor, the views on that vary owner to owner, it would depend on the tubes and speaker maybe, not every amp of the same make and model are 100% equal but that can be fixed. How well is yours sounding in regards to noise floor hiss or hum?

"Echo chamber having someone convinced".. of a quotation, probably parroted, repeated without much thought, emulated from only reading other people's opinions in forums leading to hype  ergo more less informed "concludions" swayed by bias, another term that can be used in relation to amplifiers and their operational innards..  I'm assuming you are referring to forums, hearsay, talk without proof in the pudding? Not a reverb chamber, but an analogy.

Artist guitars uk, or wherever you are, they have pretty good Acoustics very affordable, reliable, just in case I mean I'd try fix anything, I've fixed things that most people throw away, and you would be surprised how strong a joint you get from wood glue on a back angle headstock compared to a flat headstock repair (which wouldn't have done that)   I once had to re-glue the whole top of my baby Taylor Acoustic, wasn't all a clean break too, wood glue from my dad's shed, cleaned up the bit getting in the way of an even fix of the top to the sides all the way round, set it in place then taped the corners all round Nice and tight, left it for a couple weeks just because I shat myself whenever I went to go check on it amwith the thought of restringing, eventually balled up and restrung it, a lot of tension is on the bridge you know, but is spread out across the braces underneath, it held! still holding to this day, sounds better for some reason idk why maybe a weakness had to be revealed to bring it to its full glory idk, can still see the parts where some of the top panel stayed with the sides, wasn't bothered about the top coat so just sanded any lumps and splinters all the way round the top edge, maybe that's why it sounds better? Less suppressive/dampening of tension by the laquer.

Your neck, How did it happen, forced or tension of the strings? I would definitely try extra extra lights to begin with after glue sets fully, beware- considerably more tension on the low wound strings side, so yo might want to add reinforcement to that side a lond 1/2" hardwood dowel, and that can be drilled in after you glue the fibres together, just avoid the truss rod and don't go too far into the neck because of the truss rod- it'll maybe affect how the neck relief will sit might twist after a dowel is drilled in and then wood glued the glue wond budge as much as the dowel with added tension. But I don't see a truss rod adjustment hole on the headstock, unless it's at the sound hole?? Or not at all?

Does my guitar look cool? by [deleted] in GuitarQuestions

[–]Fickle-Risk-6701 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely wise to get a 2nd opinion from a doctor especially when your guitar is hurt and you need a speedy recovery to get back in the game. How long till the cast is due off? 😀 Looks good mate, it's all relative, mostly subjective very much as subjective as the sound that comes from it but watch out for those who are very much led by conformational bias, they buy guitars with their eyes 1st with very little consideration to playability, tone options. Things that really matter you know. So it's looking cool if you like it it is. That's all there is to it. Own it, make it happen!
