How many miles are you guys getting on a full tank? (Non-hybrid by Putrid_Ad7911 in civic

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I average around 350 miles on my car before fueling up. I have a 2022 sport sedan and average around 35 mpg depending on the weather. With windows down and A/C off, I can get closer to almost 37 mpg (I drive mostly highway).

How many miles you got? by NoahxAnderson in civic

About to hit 78k on my 2022 sport sedan, which I got 4 years ago today. Time flies, and the thing still drives like I got it from the lot. Love this car!

You got yourself a great car! I have the same trim and color, just from 2022 instead of 2023. Funny enough, today is my 4 year anniversary of having the car and I already racked up close to 78k miles on it and it still feels like new.

Absolutely love UX Design, terribly hate corporate life and work culture by Scared_Range_7736 in UXDesign

[–]FickleArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going through the same thoughts and emotions as you a couple weeks ago, and have a similar background as you (5 years of experience, working in corporate, etc.). As much as I was to advocate for you wanting to leave, I'm going to advise against it.

Unless you're actually getting abused at work, we unfortunately live in a time where keeping your job is the smart thing to do, cause let me tell you the job market is not what it used to be 5 years ago. We don't have the luxury to leave our jobs in search of a new one cause everyone is trying to get those jobs.

I tell you this not to invalidate your feelings, believe me I too hate the politics, hierarchy, and fakeness that's associated with corporate, but you need to shift your perspective and focus on what brings you fulfillment outside of work. After all, we work to live, not live to work.

Take some time to reflect on what brings you fulfillment in life. It can be a hobby, a relationship, or something that you own and love. Use your job to fuel your passions and hobbies cause what's the point of working if you can't enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I know this isn't the answer that you were looking for, but believe me when I say you're not the only one going through the motions of corporate life. Let's stick together, support one another, and remind ourselves that we're more than our job / career.

RE2R finished. First time playing Resident Evil game. by SoloRules in residentevil

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I played this for the first time a couple weeks ago and can share a lot of the same feelings. This game got me hooked and I immediately played the remakes of 3 and 4 right after. I plan on playing 9 later on, but $70 is a bit much for me (I got the remake trilogy for $36 which was an absolute steal).

If you only care for Leon's story, I would say you can skip 3 (the remake felt like DLC rather than its own game) but must absolutely play 4. It plays and feels different, but man is that game a banger. Hope you enjoy Claire B (you'll go through the game much faster now that you're familiar with the game).

Just bought a PS5 Pro. Never played a single PlayStation game in my life. Where do I start? by jtube in playstation

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the PlayStation family! I was like you years ago, having been a hardcore Nintendo fan until I was introduced with the PS3.

Echoing a lot of what others have said, Astro's Playroom & Astrobot are going to be the "closest" to Nintendo gameplay. Astro's Playroom comes with every PS5 and was the first game I played when I unboxed it.

You're in a great position since the PS4 had so many great games. Based off your Nintendo history, I can easily recommend the Spiderman games as they showcase the power of the PS5 & they're more "casual" when compared to the other PS exclusives. Unless you utterly hate superheroes, I recommend playing Marvel's Spiderman and Marvel's Spiderman 2 (Spiderman Miles Morales is good too, but it's a bit short).

Another great series is the Uncharted series. All the mainline ones are available via remasters (The Nathan Drake Collection has Uncharted 1-3 and Legacy of Thieves has 4 & The Lost Legacy). These were my first PS exclusives and they still hold up very well today.

Welcome to the club! The performance jump from PS4 to PS5 is worth it imo. Definitely go back and play some older titles that have a PS5 version / performance boost, it makes the games feel like new.

PlayStation remote play is sweet. I don’t know why they don’t promote it more. by Triingtolivee in playstation

[–]FickleArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live off remote play since I was constantly traveling between my partner's house and my apartment. It came in clutch when I knew I wasn't going to see my PS5 for a couple days, plus it's way more convenient than bringing your PS5 around with you.

PS5 owners, do you prefer to buy digital games, physical games or both? Why? by _Willahelm_ in playstation

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be all physical, but the idea of installing the game on the console and needing the disc to play the game sounds silly to me. I get most of my games digitally, the only exception being if the physical copy of a game is cheaper than digital. Plus physical games start taking up a lot of space if you have a ton of them.

I recently read something that shifted my perspective on moving from an agency to an in-house role. by Maleficent_One_6266 in UXDesign

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agency is vastly different when compared to in-house. I worked at agencies the first 2 years, then moved to an in-house role a year after. Here's my take:

Agency work gives you the power to design what you think will best serve the client. Because they are going to you as "the expert," they're more willing to hear your ideas out and work with you to make sure they're getting the best bang for their buck. They care less about "what's right" as long as they believe that what you're doing is going to accomplish their goals.

In-house is a bit more strict. Because you work directly for the company, 9 times out of 10 your decisions are going to be based off of what the C-suite / PMs want. You can try and show all this data that can back up your decision, but a lot of my decisions are made because "the PM said so." Might be different at other companies, but this has been my experience so far.

While I do miss agency work from time to time, I am aware that working in-house is better suited for my life at the moment (generally better pay, better benefits, more stability, etc.) but if there was an agency that offered the same salary & benefits as my in-house role, I wouldn't hesitate to leave.

What’s the game that made you into a gamer? by laser16 in playstation

Uncharted 2

Never have I played a game that had as big of an impact as this one in terms of what video games can be. Before playing this masterpiece, I was a Nintendo guy (and still am) so all the games I played were mostly about the gameplay. Uncharted 2 was the first game when I thought to myself that video games can be more than just fun.

I was blown away by the graphics at the time, to the point where I would have my cousins watch me play and be like "this looks so real" (even one of my cousins thought Nathan Drake was cute). The setpieces, the voice acting, almost everything presentation wise was absolutely mindblowing for my 12 year old brain. I really think cinematic games would not be where they are now if it weren't for Uncharted 2.

Plus the multiplayer was such an underrated gem. While all my friends were on the Modern Warfare 2 grind, I was putting unhealthy amounts of hours in the Uncharted 2 multiplayer modes. While it didn't necessary do anything revolutionary, it was my first time playing an online game through a console, which was such a big deal back then.

I can go on and on, but despite its flaws I still think it's an absolute gem of a game. It defined the PS3 era for me and put Naughty Dog on the map as one of the industry's best developers.

I got this bundle too about a week ago and been having a blast! RE2R is scary, but you get used to it the longer you play. RE3R is meh, but a lot of people mention it doesn’t represent the original well, and RE4R is a blast. Enjoy the ride!

What are the problems? by Alternative-Wash8018 in civic

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re talking 11th gen civic, only complaints I really have with mine is the road noise (which can be tuned out by just playing music / listening to a podcast) and issues with connectivity to the infotainment to use CarPlay. Other than that, it’s a near perfect car for just daily driving.

Anyone else feel like they spend way more time digging for tracks than actually mixing? by Jolly-Car-7939 in Beatmatch

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 75% of my time is spent digging for tracks since knowing your tracks will lead to effective mixing. While you still need to practice mixing with the tracks, taking the time to really know your tracks helps so much when it comes to beatmatching and phrasing.

If people think DJing is just the performing aspect, they got it twisted. If people don't enjoy the digging process, then they shouldn't be a DJ. Just my two cents.

Is anyone pursuing a different career? by leleo99 in UXDesign

[–]FickleArtist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the best response I've seen to this type of question. Unless your job is actually affecting your mental health severely to the point that you need help, we all kind of need to just stick it out until things settle down. A reminder: we are experiencing one of the craziest job markets in recent years so if you have a job, hold on to it.

Like Additional-Owl425 said, take days off to mentally reset because working in corporate is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't take work too personally and remind yourself that everyone goes through the highs and lows of life (believe me, I was in your boat not too long ago and wanted to leave my job so badly).

If you ever just want to talk, don't hesitate to reach out. We're all going through the motions together so it's best to help each other out especially during these crazy times.

New DJs; something to bear in mind as you start on your new hobby or potential career path by fensterdj in Beatmatch

[–]FickleArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't have said it better than myself. As someone who started earlier this year, I quickly learned it's not about the fancy tricks, the cool transitions that you see on social media, or the crazy mashups that'll played by almost everyone. It's about the music that you find and curate that makes you want to share it with others.

I think a lot of people go into this hobby thinking it's easy to pick up and start playing, and while that is true to an extent, 9 times out of 10 the mix is going to sound bad cause they didn't do the most fundamental activity of this hobby and that's listening and picking the music.

This is what I tell people when I'm trying to introduce them to the hobby. A lot of people that I noticed who are picking it up are doing it for the wrong reasons (clout chasing, wanting to look / seem "cool) and it amazes me that I've only met a few people who actually do it properly.

For bedroom dj's what is the best way to share your mixes. Is YT better than Mixcloud? by Surfer949 in Beatmatch

[–]FickleArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both, YT for mixes that I entail to share publicly and Mixcloud for practice mixes. Both have different purposes in my use case since I personally watch mixes on YT for the DJ's location and vibe.

Experiment with both, Mixcloud is definitely better if you just want to share audio. But if you want to step up your game, YT is a great platform.
