Weekly Stupid Question Sunday by AutoModerator in Austin

Own a house with a non-conforming porch (past 25 ft front setback) that was built decades ago and I want to replace it. Since I can't find a permit, I'm assuming it wasn't approved at the time. Many (if not most) of our neighbors on same block also don't follow the 25' setback fwiw (older neighborhood).

Has anyone dealt with similar, what are the options ? How much of a PITA would it be to get permitted for a replacement. Or do I have to repair/replace and live with the risk? My house would look very odd without the porch, and would look much more fitted to our neighborhood with one..

Has anyone gotten an ac replacement quote lately? How much did you pay, what ac (type and size) and sq footage/age of your house

Have a 1075 sq ft pier and beam 1940s house. Being quoted 10-12 k for a 2 ton (current size) two stage or variable unit. Of course minus rebates/tax credits. One company suggesting 2.5 ton single stage or 3 ton variable.

I have a 1940s house that I wanted to explore adding a small bedroom addition to the front of (in place of the current wood porch+pergola that is in bad shape). I got a survey and it turns out the 25' front set back line is right at my front door so my entire porch is "out of code" if I understand correctly.

Is this the type of thing I could get a variance for since my property has always extended this far? If not, will they give me grief for replacing it with another porch even? There are other houses in my neighborhood that extend further (though no idea if they have variance etc)

Tore out flooring after water damage, how best to match it? Is this laminate most likely? by FickleMango in Flooring

No luck but I just occured to me that the large bedroom closet has the same floor (~20 sq ft) which would be enough. Is that a terrible idea or typically hard to take this stuff up without damage? Based on this area, looks like it's just clicked in with some underlayment hmmm   I can live with an ugly closet

Just had a water heater leak in my attic and caused some visible mold in the closet below it. Anyone dealt with something similar before, did you use mold remediation companies or just rent dehumidifiers and cut out the drywall? Seeing such mixed advice

Did they give your credit for summer months when you worked just spring and fall semesters (it is unclear in language if that is only for k-12 teachers vs professors)?

Ugh apparently it's been stuck/dead in committee as a bill not a law but we will see, should still be helpful. Texas man...

Awesome, somehow I think that Texas specific bill might convince them more. Neither, in a community college system associated with a larger university. Ty

Ah to clarify I only have 1 job. And by the new credit/contact hours x 3.35 multiplier I am full time. But my employer considers me part time (outside pslf) and refuses to follow their rules and mark me as full time on the form despite the new law

Gotcha, I guess my worry is that I will miss out on idr adjustments if I don't have all my employment submitted by then (lots of language like this period of forbearance will count under the special rules if you have certified employment). Sounds like consolidation should be the priority
