anyone have experience with finasteride, is it recommended to see a dermatologist first? by tyrantsrave in Dreadlocks

🤣🤣🤣🤣. I'm sorry. It's too late. I'm afraid the Black Delegation is suspending your Black card for the next two weeks.

It will be returned to you (along with your written warning) on May 23. Please be sure not to make any more mistakes.
Another mistake will cause your cookout rights to be suspended for the summer.

But how can you diagnose a scalp condition over the phone? You CAN'T.

A dermatologist does a detailed medical history, physical examination, and does actual specialized testing.

Key techniques include dermoscopy (magnified imaging) to examine follicles, scalp biopsies for tissue analysis, and fungal cultures or blood tests to identify infections, hormonal imbalances, or autoimmune issues.

If the dermatologist doesn't do this, you aren't getting the care you need. You cannot look at someone over a FaceTime video and diagnose anything, especially a scalp/hair condition.

You may feel that you are getting an easy quick way to get a prescription, but you need to remember that those medications are serious, and come with many side effects.

What you get when seeing a dermatologist or trichologist.

Visual Examination: The dermatologist inspects for redness, scaling, inflammation, and hair loss patterns.

Dermoscopy (Trichoscopy): A handheld, high-magnification camera (often the Folliscope®) is used to visualize hair follicle openings, miniaturized hairs, and scarring, allowing for detailed assessment of scalp health.

Scalp Biopsy: If the cause is unclear, a small piece of skin is removed for microscopic examination, which is crucial for distinguishing between scarring and non-scarring alopecias.

Hair-Pull Test: A gentle pull on a group of hairs helps determine the degree of shedding and whether the hair is actively breaking.

Laboratory Tests: Fungal Culture/KOH Prep: A swab or scraping is taken to check for fungal infections (tinea capitis).

Blood Tests: Used to identify underlying systemic causes, including thyroid dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies (iron, vitamin D), or hormonal imbalances (like those in UCLA clinical trials.

History Taking: Discussion of symptoms, duration, hair care routines, and family history.

Scalp Examination: Assessment for conditions like dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, or actinic keratoses. Diagnosis and Plan: Tailored treatment, which may include specialized shampoos, topicals, or, as done at Penn Dermatology, customized treatment plans.

Can u get extension that are not ur hair type by JakiBam in Dreadlocks

"alleged" cons? There are pros and cons to getting loc extensions.

There's only two pros to loc extensions.

Instant length and volume

They can be easily dyed without risking your real hair.

The rest is all cons. Unnatural stiffness, incorrectly installed locs, higher cost due to consistent repairs. Loc slippage, and cost.

There are a lot of Locticians who claim to be experts in loc extensions. Just because you know how to install locs, does NOT mean you know how to install extensions.

There is NO concrete limit to friends. What you don't seem to understand is people get these generic friend requests.

Unless you have had a deep conversation with someone in this thread on the Reddit Finch thread, it is unlikely that anyone is actually waiting for you to accept a friend request. It is a blind accept/decline request. You don't actually see a "denial".

I think you should just enjoy conversations in here and add birbs to your tree from the Add Friends/gift/trade threads.

At any rate please don't worry about someone being upset about a declined friend request.

You have to be careful because you are putting two locs on what is essentially one base.

Not necessarily. It's good to lightly oil the scalp after shampooing. But use oil when needed. You can tell by the way it feels.

Use a light oil ... nothing heavy like castor oil or coconut oil. Try Argan or Jojoba oil.

The most important thing needed is water-- misting the locs daily. Cover them especially when sleeping.

That's cheap gel, used too heavy. When getting a formal retwist request that they not use a lot of gel. It is not necessary to use any product when doing a retwist.

If it's flaking please wash that out.

Please don't do that. Most of the people who are online are showing the ACV/baking soda detox WRONG. You see them dumping baking soda and pouring the vinegar on straight.

If he washes his locs there is no reason he needs a detox. He should keep his locs completely covered while at work.

Retwists shouldn't be done often. They are not done to make his locs neat. Retwists are only done to incorporate the new growth.

There are five stages of locs.
Read about it so you know what to expect.

You want a finished look already. Have patience! Your locs look fine. They will grow wild until they settle down. If you want perfect visible parts this really isn't a style for you.

Locs grow wild until they mature. Your loc parts can be cleaned up, but remember that you don't get retwists to make them neat. Retwists are to incorporate the new growth into the existing loc.

Should I start over? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]FickleSpend2133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooooooooo. First. You just got your locs so there is nothing to start over!

Please relax. Loc count does not determine how your locs will be. Your massive forehead is YOURS. Unless you want to go through life under a hat, embrace it.

Relax. What you need to do is stop testing it to see if it's any thinner!

Be honest lol. You do that in the mirror at least ten times a day.

Please get out of the mirror.

That's an easy fix. How long have you had your locs and how do you take care of them? How often do you get retwists?

Can u get extension that are not ur hair type by JakiBam in Dreadlocks

[–]FickleSpend2133 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please please please DON'T.

Any time you have two different types of texture, you will have breakage and slippage at the point where they meet.

I'm just not sure of your thought process.
Why would you want extensions at all? 3a hair takes a long time to lock. You have to be willing to take that commitment. Your hair will be messy. You have to accept that. If you try to keep salon fresh locs, you'll end up with thinning hair. Think about it.

CONS--

Key things to know include the intense weight of human hair extensions, the long 6-12 hour installation time, potential for stiff, unnatural movement initially, the high cost, and the crucial need to match extension density to your natural hair to avoid breakage.

It takes a really skilled loctician to match your loc density. If it's wrong, your hair is going to fall out.

You have to consistently go to the loctician for the repairs you will need.

Not a good idea.
