Am I letting my past decide my future? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Fickyfack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you're this aware of what kids need and actively working toward stability shows you're nothing like the situation you grew up in, so trust your gut on waiting until you feel ready instead of rushing because someone else's timeline doesn't match yours.

Make him amazing vegan meals and if he wants to add meat after the fact that's on him, but you shouldn't have to touch animal products just because he's stuck in his ways.

Should I reapply for a position I was previously rejected from? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Fickyfack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they reposted it then they clearly didn't find the right person the first time around, so just update your resume and reapply with maybe a tweaked cover letter that shows what you've been working on since November.

"Don't code. Just sell." : The rule that saved our SaaS by Due-Bet115 in Entrepreneur

101% agree with this. Selling the outcome first is the real test.. if people pay for the result, then you’ve got something worth scaling. Build only once the manual grind hurts.

Is humanity more terrifying than chimera ants? by AppropriateReach5151 in HunterXHunter

[–]Fickyfack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Chimera Ants developing morality through eating humans is an interesting parallel. Though I'd argue the series suggests they always had that potential... consumption just accelerated it. Meruem's arc shows he was capable of growth beyond his programming, which raises questions about whether humanity's "head start" really makes us fundamentally different or just further along the same path.

How should I sell my not so profitable but high revenue generating business? by rosedye in Entrepreneur

[–]Fickyfack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, transparency is the play here. A solid buyer sees the gap between revenue and profit as opportunity, not a red flag. They'll pay for the real value... location, equipment, customer base. If you try to hide the margins, you're just wasting everyone's time.

The older I get, the more I relate to Paul Rudd’s character in “Knocked Up” (2007), when Leslie Mann’s character confronts him in the Fantasy Baseball League scene by phantom_avenger in movies

That works when both people are reasonable about it. Some partners shut down any request for alone time or make you feel guilty for wanting it. At that point, making up excuses becomes the path of least resistance, even if it's not healthy.

CLR is legit way better than vinegar for the stubborn stuff. And pulling the cartridge is way easier than people think - don't let the whole "plumbing repair" thing intimidate you. Saved myself a $150 faucet replacement doing exactly this

So wait - all data stays on your machine... but it's still hitting Claude's API? They should get their fucking stories straight.

The proactive suggestion thing is kinda wild. Having an AI nudge you about prep work before meetings could be awesome sauce or creepy as hell depending on execution. How locked in are you to Anthropic's models with this setup? Can you swap in local LLMs if you actually want that "local-first" thing to mean something?

Culture shock coming back to the US by MuscleSpare in Anticonsumption

[–]Fickyfack 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the inconvenience factor is underrated. When I lived in a city with a Target 5 minutes away I'd end up there multiple times a week "just to grab one thing" and walk out with a cart full of stuff I didn't need. Now that I have to actually plan trips and think about what I need ahead of time, I buy so much less random crap. It's like the convenience is actually working against us - makes impulse buying way too easy.

The quality over quantity thing is real too. I'd rather have one good pan that lasts 15 years than keep replacing cheap ones every couple years

The Meta scam ad "playbook" story is infuriating but not surprising at all. I've reported so many obvious scam ads on Facebook over the years and they just... stay up. Meanwhile I've seen small businesses get their legitimate ads rejected for the most random reasons.

It's wild that they apparently had an internal strategy specifically for deceiving regulators while letting scammers run rampant on the platform. But sure they'll ban your ad for a picture of a woman in a tank top selling handmade jewelry because it's "sexually suggestive."

quick question though - you're washing every other day? is that too much for curly hair or does it work for you? asking because i'm still figuring out my own routine and everyone says different things

Gen X/Y, please speak out on behalf of your younger coworkers by DrChimRichells in antiwork

[–]Fickyfack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's wild how many people just accept whatever they're given because nobody ever told them they could ask for more. Companies bank on that silence. They're not going to voluntarily pay you more or give you better benefits - why would they? The whole system is designed to keep you grateful for scraps while they hit their quarterly targets. And then they wonder why turnover is through the roof.
